Super Saturday

Doesn't it feel like Saturday's are always too short?

Today, we had the opportunity to visit with our friends the Sweats and see their beautiful two week old daughter, Vivian. They are an amazing family and we enjoy catching up with them. When we feel like we are too busy, we like to think about the Sweat's and all they have going on. Like us, they have five small children with the oldest 9 (Aubrey was 9 when Brenna was born). Additionally, Tony is a principal at a middle school seminary and is half way through a doctorate program. Since that is not quite enough, he also is wrapping up a book that is scheduled to be published in the fall with a working title of Why. It sounds like a great book and we will make sure to share it when it is available. It was nice to visit with them and reconnect. In the afternoon, their two oldest girls, Lauren and Reagan came over and swam at our house (it was a beautiful day).

Like most Saturday's, we also had a soccer game today. For the first half, Lindsay was able to play the coveted position of Goal Keeper. She was a good aggressive goalie who made a couple of stops and had some great goal kicks. She has been making good progress in soccer and is having a good time.

In the afternoon, Robert and Jenna spent some time running some last minute errands before we head off to Cancun on Wednesday (bathing suits, food for the girls while we are gone, etc.). We also got some yard work done including mowing the lawn at our friends who moved this week, the Pattersons.

In the evening, we went and had a nice BBQ at our friends the Daniels. It was nice to have a leisurely dinner and spend some time catching up with them and our other friends the Coates. The food was good and the company was even better.

Who knew you could pack so much into one day.

Come Live by Us

With the recent move of our friends, the Pattersons, we now have a house available in our neighborhood. We know we are biased, but this is quite possibly the best neighborhood in the Salt Lake valley. As you can see from the flier below, the home is far from a fixer-upper. The home is about 5800 square feet with large bedrooms and a good floor plan for entertaining (which is good because if one of you moves in, all of our neighborhood parties will be at your house). It also has a one year old pool with an RV garage. It is currently listed at $600,000.

Pleasant Surprise

We had a very special surprise when our friends the Cains (sans father Mark) stopped by to visit and deliver birthday gifts. We were glad to hear that Melanie's mom is doing well and see all the boys again. We have missed not seeing the Cain's as much over the past two years with our move, but enjoy the opportunities we get to catch up and reconnect. They are great friends!

Lucky 13!

Wow, how time flies! 13 years and still as madly in love as ever.

We (meaning Jenna, Emily, and Brenna) joined Robert for lunch at Zupa's for some yummy salad and chocolate covered strawberries. In the evening we kept our anniversary tradition and performed sealings at the temple. After that we went to dinner at a local restaurant that will remain nameless (neither of us loved our meal).

Even with the disappointing dinner, it was a wonderful day as we reflected on the sacred marital covenants we made a few years ago and how happy we are. We are so blessed to have each other and our wonderful girls. We could have never imagined that in 13 years our lives would be as they now are and we could not be happier about it.

Patterson Farwell

Our hearts are saddened today as we said our final farewells to the Patterson family. They have been such good neighbors and friends to our family. We enjoyed spending time with David and Kimberly and attending their parties and get togethers. The girls will miss walking to school with David Jr, Noah, and Sydney as well as playing night games with the entire Patterson crew.

We hope that Nebraska is good to them and that they have much joy and success there. We will miss them very much. We love you guys!!!

Do We Earn Holiday Pay?

We took advantage of the holiday and got some things done around the house today.
Even though it was raining all morning, Robert slopped around in the mud and built our second vegetable garden box. Since we can no longer get a vehicle in our back yard anymore, we will have to do many wheelbarrow trips around the yard to fill the box, but that is ok. We are happy with the progress we are making with the yard and the garden and are looking forward to making things even nicer.

We also used the day to FINISH THE FAMILY ROOM. We hid the cords from the TV by running them through the wall and through the garage over to the equipment in the cabinet. Pictures need to be rearranged, but that is minor at this point. We are so happy with the how the room has turned out. It feels so much more spacious without the huge entertainment center and we love the new furniture. We are also extremely happy with the built in bookshelves and how perfectly they match our kitchen cabinets. If any of you in the Salt Lake valley ever need a great finish carpenter who is good to work with and does excellent work, just let us know and we will pass his info along.

Emi's 5th Birthday

Today was an exciting day for Emily! She was glad her birthday fell on a Friday, so she could go to preschool on her actually birthday (She loves preschool) She was the VIP for the day and loved all the extra attention and well wishes. Mom and Brenna got to go to preschool and tell the kids lots of special things about Emily and share pictures of her.

In the afternoon she had a Minnie Mouse party with her friends. She could hardly wait for Dad to get home so she could open the rest of her presents. She especially liked her Doodlebops guitar.

She wanted to cap off the day with a trip to her favorite restaurant, Old Macdonalds (aka McDonalds) Emi has looked forward to turning 5 for a long time and her birthday was a perfect start to this great year.

Tumbletown

Ahh, spring. The time of piano recitals, dance rehersals, and gymnastics exhibitions. Kayla and Lindsay have worked hard at gymnastics this year (Kayla once again submitted the most practice hours of the 40+ kids in her gym) and it shows. They are making great progress and we are very proud of them. The exhibition was fun and they liked putting their gymnastic skills to a music routine.

Aubrey's 70's Birthday Party

Aubrey is now 11 years old! She has been planning her 70's party for awhile now. She and her friends dressed in 70's attire - check out those wild bellbottoms and huge Peace earrings. They played a flower power game, painted pet rocks, ate tirelessly from the flowing chocolate fountain and had a great time. Aubrey has a great group of friends and it is always fun to have them over.

NY Vacation

We decided that it would be a good experience to take the girls to New York, so back in January we scheduled a trip to see the church historical sites in Western New York and spend some days in the city. We can't believe it is all ready here, but I guess time flies when you are having fun.

We have tried to arrange our pictures and the captions in a way that you can easily follow where we were and what we did. If you doule click on the slideshow, it will open up picasa where you can see them larger and actually read the captions.

Bruised and Battered

When our friend Rachelle went on vacation, she trusted Aubrey to watch her son Cade while her husband Matt was working during the day. Brenna and Cade are buds, so Aubrey thought it would be fun to show her skills as a make-up artist as Jenna was away at the gym in the morning. When Jenna walked into the house, she did not realize it was make-up and Aubrey only laughed when Jenna desperately asked "Aubrey, what happened?" What a little jokester...

Aubrey's Recital

As you can see from the video below, Aubrey has a natural gift for piano. We are very proud of her and the progress she has made in developing her talents.

Planting a Tree

As most of you know, Jenna was 12 weeks along when we lost a baby over Thanksgiving. It was a trying experience for us, but one we have grown closer together through. Over the winter, we decided that we would plant a tree in our front yard in remembrance of that sweet spirit. Jenna picked out a beautiful Cinderalla Dwarf Crabapple with small white blossoms. The girls helped us plant it as our activity for family night and we attached the hospital bracelet from Jenna's stay in November.
