Sommerville Camping

Another weekend of camping and another weekend of fun. This time at Lake Sommerville, Yegua Creek Park, the camping site of my youth :)

Of course anytime we go out there are always a few new adventures. We thought we had gotten pretty good at the packing thing and we have as far as time but somehow or another we always forget something. This time it was propane and lighter fluid (2 necessities for bar b que) but nothing a trip to the local store can't fix. Our Friday evening trip out in the boat was quiet eventful. Kevin would prefer not talking about it but the troller motor is acting up (hope that doesn't mean new troller motor yikes) . Klayton also has been practicing his casting with his great grandmother's fishing pole and he is getting pretty good. However, I guess he was getting a little bored and decided to try to put the pole in the water and just like that it was in the lake and Kevin was down to his underwear chasing after it. Quite a sight but we did recover the fishing pole and hopefully Klayton learned an important lesson.

Kevin's college buddy Richard and his wife Shelley and son Will joined us on Friday evening and we had a great visit. On Saturday we did a little fishing and a lot of playing.

Here are the guys geting a little bonding time.

Then in the afternoon we decided to let the boys play "by" the water. That quickly turned into "in" the water. The water was definitely cold but the didn't seem to mind at all.Of course one of the highlights of any camping trip is the evening chats by the fire. We had great adult time and I think we solved the majority of the problems of the world. I wish!!!

Here is one last snap of the boys getting ready to go home.

Easter Festivities

Easter is one of those holidays that we get to turn into a 3 day weekend. You would think that would mean there was plenty of time for everything and you are able to go back to work on Monday well rested. Not exactly the case but it was lots of fun, lots of firsts, and lots of family time so I definitely can't complain. Unfortunately this year the Rakes (Mel, Dave, and DJ) weren't able to join us but the Ellis's joined us bright and early on Friday morning. There are so many of us that we can't even make it to Hallettsville in one vehicle. Oh well I guess that led to good sister visiting time in the car.

As usual the festivities really stepped up a notch when we joined the Henke's celebration on "the hill." Ang and Tom have done a great job of making my grandparents house suitable for our family gatherings but Klayton really enjoyed the trampoline and swing set/treehouse.

Evidently these were some of Anneliese's favorites too (these 2 play a lot together). Then we loaded up all of the great grandkids into the back of a pickup truck for a ride around the pasture.

Don't ask how we got everyone into one truck and while we were gone the Easter bunny made an appearance. Klayton was way too concerned about the bunny to hunt Easter eggs.

but with a little (a whole lot) of coaxing we did manage one photo op.

I have to include one more picture to remind us all of Angie's ingenuity. We had all walked past the front door and the pile of 20 fly swatters and just thought OK whatever. Some people have a problem with flies right? Wrong! They were for blowing bubbles. What a great idea.

Then on Saturday we had plenty of time for fun around Grandpa's house. Klayton just loves it because he can stay outside almost all day long. The boys had a great time playing with all of Grandpa and Grandma's fun toys.

We did manage to corral them for a few minutes to dye Easter eggs (I know they are a little too young but we couldn't resist and judging Klayton's expressions he thought it was pretty cool too!)

Finally Easter morning was here and of course there were a few special treats from the Easter bunny!

And then it was on to more hunting. He was much better at it this time but still not too interested in what the eggs actually had in them.

The kiddos were really proud of their Easter loot.

It was a wonderful and blessed Easter weekend and we celebrated and remembered how blessed our family is.

Finally I leave you with a few more 1sts. After Holy Thursday mass we took Klayton for his 1st ice cream cone (I also learned this weekend that is called reward for good behavior and not bribery but hey).

Then this past weekend we were having dinner at Jason's deli and he remembered and started chanting ice cream cone. Now we have had 2 ice cream cones and I see several more in our near future.
