Hear Dat?

A calm spring evening, a rain storm is picking up momentum outside.  We'd been dancing with the music on while getting ready for bed.  Once we turned off the music, Emerson stood perfectly still and looking up completely serious he asked,

"Hear Dat?"

He cupped his hand to his ear and motioned with his other hand for us to follow him towards the sound that he was hearing.

He kept repeating, "Hear dat?"  as he walked cautiously and slowly toward the dining room.

Then with enormous eyes he said,

"ooooooo... a ghost!"

The only sounds that could be heard was the pattering of rain on the skylights in the dining room but he was convinced it was a ghost.

I pointed up to the skylight and told him "No ghosts.  It's raining on the windows."

He jumped back so he wasn't standing beneath the skylight... "Raining.  It get on my nose!"

It went from a ghost to raindrops coming through the ceiling and getting his nose.

He had to go around and ask everyone if they could, "Hear dat?"
