Flashback Friday - 1991

I decided to break free of baby pictures (which was very hard in my current state) and go with some college memories.

In the fall of 1991 I was starting my sophomore year at BYU and decided to room with 3 of my friends from the dorms (Jodi, Alicia and Melissa). The only place we could find for the 4 of us was at the Glenwood apartments. We were lucky enough to get 2 other great roommates (Alice and her sister Shannon). We lived in Glenwood #101 and it was a fun year. I worked at Stevenette's Malt Shoppe that year while going to school and left after fall semester to take some time off.

Me, Melissa and Jodi having cake for my 19th birthday. Jodi and Melissa were in the dorms with me freshman year.

The Mesa Runner. Melissa brought her bike up to school and it just sat in our front room, I don't remember her riding it once. So we got fed up with it always sitting there and thought we would play a trick so we took pictures of the bike and put up ads to buy the bike all over the Glenwood. Apparently this was a bad idea since we got so many calls and Melissa was pretty mad at us. Oops!

Alice and I posing for a picture. Alice always had the brightest lipstick to show off her gorgeous lips so I thought I would try some out with her. Doesn't look as good on me as it did on her. Don't you love her notes in the background on how to have a happy household? Like that is possible with 6 girls living together in cramped quarters.

Alice and Jodi carving pumpkins. I put this picture in to show the sweet outfits of 1991. You've gotta love the matching polka dot headband and shirt or the sweet plaid look!

All the Small Things

First I have to apologize that my blog has turned into just my pregnancy bulletin...but that's about all I think about at this late stage. And I will warn you that after the baby is born most posts will be about the baby for a little while. Sorry!

My Health: I am so lucky when I'm prego that I don't get sick and I am just so grateful for that. Even at the end when I just feel yucky I am still able to teach spin, go walking and work full-time. I got my mom's child bearing genes I guess. That doesn't mean I'm planning on having 10 kids!

My Extended Family: It is so great to have so much family close by. I get more help than I deserve. Having Timmy live with me is a blessing in itself since he is so willing to help and babysits for free! I love having my parents a half mile away they are always there to lend a hand when I need it. I love going to lunch with Heidi and just talking like only sisters can. I love that we eat dinner together every Sunday at my parents house.

Knowing the End is in Sight: Every week at my appointments I am progressing and it's nice to know that I won't be pregnant much longer. It's just getting too hot to be carrying around this little heater.

Ready to Pop?

I will be the first to say I'm not a tiny pregnant girl - you know the cute ones you think are smuggling a basketball? I show early and I get nice and BIG (it's better for the baby right?) I put this horrible picture of me on here just to show that I'm not making any of this up. I have yet to gain the recommended 25-35 pounds during a pregnancy, let alone less like so many people I know. I'm always over and now that I'm finishing my 4th pregnancy I'm learning to live with it rather than let it bug me. I'm sure Todd would tell you differently he's the one who I complain to about being fat all the time. But with 2 weeks left there is nothing I can do now except embrace it!

Here are a few comments I have heard recently about being prego:

  • You look like you're ready to pop!

  • Wow! I can't believe you haven't had that baby yet. I thought you were due a month ago.

  • You just look so tired and uncomfortable.

  • When are you due again?

  • So how ya doin? Just gettin' fat, fat, fat?

  • Were you this big with all your pregnancies?

  • You about to throw that calf? (this is one of my favorites and I request it to be said each pregnancy now because it cracks me up)

  • Mommy, what are all those lines on your belly? (Luke asking about my stretch marks most of which came from him)

  • Do you have 2 babies in there? (my sweet little neighbor asked me this one in pure innocence...it was so cute)

  • Mom it's just because you have such a big belly...I was going to say fat belly but I thought big sounded better (Tayson said this in response to me telling Todd about the 2 baby comment)

  • There are also numerous nice things said to me...but they aren't as funny!

Luckily, I know all of this will end soon and I will be back to my normal self in no time. I just had to document this moment in my pregnancy to keep a smile on my face. No reason to be offended by people at this point. I'm big and that's just the way it is. :)

Provo Triathlon

Last Saturday Todd, Timmy and Trent did the Provo Triathlon. Todd has been training for the Spudman at the end of July so he thought it would be good to try out a sprint distance tri to see how he was doing with his training. So Timmy and Trent decided to join him. Saturday was Trent's birthday ... I'm not sure if this is a fun way to spend your b-day but they all seemed to have fun so I guess so.

Todd did an amazing job...and as his wife I am entitled to brag (a right wives and mother's always have). Todd took 2nd place in the Clydesdale division he competed in. He only missed 1st by 20 seconds. He had a great race and came in a few minutes earlier than his goal time. Results.

Here is a quick recap of the race from what Todd told me and what I saw as a spectator(yep I packed up all 3 kids picked up a neighbor and made it to the race by the 7:30 am start). His swim could have been faster if he would have stayed on course ... he ended up going pretty far out of his way at one point so had to come back which added to the time. His bike was right on goal and his run was faster than he was planning.

It was so much fun to be there cheering everyone on. The kids loved watching their dad and 2 of their uncles race and the boys both want to compete in the kids race next year and have been "practicing". Along with them my parents and several of our neighbors were there since their spouses were in the race too (and Holly and Jeff both took 2nd in their divisions as well). It was fun to have such a big cheering squad there.

Flashback Friday

Obviously the theme for the week has been all about babies. So I thought for this weeks flashback I would document some baby pictures of Todd and I.

Kathy - born September 20, 1972 in Tucson, AZ.
6 lbs 12 oz 20 inches long

Todd - born May 10, 1976 in California
8 lbs 3 oz. 19.5 inches long

Baby Glen

David and Kami welcomed their sweet baby boy into the family yesterday. Heidi has lots of good pictures on her blog.

It's so fun to have another nephew and I'm so excited that my baby will have a cousin so close in age, I'm sure they'll be the best of friends. Congrats to David and Kami!

24 Days to go

I can't believe that I am so close to my due date already. I know the next 3 or 4 weeks will be the long tough ones, but I was just telling Todd last night that I can't believe how fast this pregnancy has gone. I was looking at my kids and how different each of them are and wondering if this little one will look or act like any of them or if I will have another completely unique kid.

Tayson was 8 lbs. 5 oz. 19.5 inches long and born 7 days before his due date.

Tayson looks like just his daddy except that he is built just like me (a nice roll of back fat, a long bum that always shows crack, and skinny little legs). He has a temper and is very competitive. He wears his emotions on the surface is so dramatic it is funny.

Luke was 9 lbs. 3 oz 20.5 inches long and born 2 days before his due date.

Luke has a big block head (which he gets from my side) and he has total Schultz hair (just like David and my Grandpa Schultz) he has Todd's gorgeous big dark brown eyes and has a big strong build like his daddy. His legs and bum look just like Todd's to me. He has a very laid back personality and has a long concentration span for a 3 year old. His personality reminds me of Todd's.

Claire was 7 lbs. 12 oz. and 20 inches long and was born 3 days after her due date.

Claire has gorgeous big eyes and wavy hair. Her face shape, nose and mouth remind me of Todd and Amy. She really looks nothing like either of her brothers. Her personality is hilarious. She really is very bratty - she will not make eye contact with you if she doesn't "feel" like it and has done this since she was a few months old. It is her way or the highway. She is picky about what she will and will not wear. She has a very strong personality and I know I'm not ready to see her personality as a teenager!

So who knows what I have coming to me this time. I've managed to have babies in the 7, 8 and 9 lb. range before and after my due dates. I guess we'll know soon enough.

Book Group

This Thursday is book group - 7:00 pm at Noodles & Co. We are discussing The Host by Stephenie Meyers. I sent out an email but I thought I would post a reminder. Plus if you didn't get the email and want to come it's always an open invitation.

P.S. I have a new Twilight Poll up too. I'm going to post new ones every week until Breaking Dawn is released. :)

A conversation with Luke

This morning when I was getting ready for work Luke came in and was asking me a million questions about all my beauty supplies in the bathroom. He would point to something and ask what it was. Here is part of our conversation:

Luke: Mommy what's the tall thing?
Me: That's my hairspray
Luke: What's the little blue one?
Me: That's my deodorant
Luke: What's it for?
Me: Adults wear that so they don't stink
Luke: Dad stinks sometimes
Me: I don't think so, Dad smells good

long pause.....

Luke: When I grow up I want to be a T-Rex
Me: Well you can't be a T-Rex they can't live in our world they are extinct (x-"stink"ed)
Luke: Then I will just wear the blue stuff so I don't stink

Flashback Friday

Since it's June and someday (all too soon) the temperature here will be over 60 degrees. I thought I would do a pool flashback. We lived about 2 miles from Park Charles Pool & Tennis Club and the years my parents joined were the best. We would get on our bikes and ride to the pool. This is a great memory for me and I have even created an interval workout in my spin class of this bike ride. I would ride my sweet banana seat Schwinn bike usually with Heidi on the seat with me and would race Danny. It was always our goal to get all the way up the big hill without having to get off our bikes and walk them. I can remember how great it felt the first time I did it with Heidi on the back! I was so tough. :)

My pool passes from 1980 and 1981 - yes I am a pack rat. I think it's classic that in the one when I am 7 years old I am wearing a bikini and the one I'm 8 in my hair is sticking straight up. What was I thinking leaving the house like that?

Me, Heidi and David at the pool. The best part of this picture is that Steve is in the background (to the left) and you can see 2 red motorcycle helmets next to him. I'm pretty sure neither Steve or George were old enough to ride their motorcycles to the pool. But not all rules applied to us growing up.

All the Small Things

This past week has been great.

Timmy's Home: It's so nice to have him back home. I have very few leftovers now, and it's great to have the help. The boys were so excited to have him home they both sat next to him during Sacrament and I actually got to listen to both talks.

Claire's Purse: Claire has been playing with one of Chelsea's old purses this week and it is the cutest thing. She walks around with the purse on her shoulder everywhere she goes and all it has in it are a few goldfish crackers. Which means Shadow follows her everywhere just in case one falls out.

The Streaker: Claire keeps undressing herself every time we put her down for naps or bed. It is so funny to me. I feel like I have to check on her every time it gets quiet in her room.

Lunch with Traci: Traci's b-day is this week so we went out to lunch, and I just love girl time. Since I can't get out on long bike rides or running I miss our girl time, so lunch was a great option.

The Brobergs

Our good friends Dave and Lisa Broberg are on the hunt for baby #2. Check out their Adoption Blog. Let me just say that if you know anyone who is looking for an amazing family for their baby here it is.

I honestly can't say enough great things about their family and you can learn everything about them on their Blog. When I was reading their blog yesterday I sat thinking about what I would write if I had to tell people who I was, who Todd is, how we met, how we parent, why we would make great parents. It was overwhelming when I thought about it. I'm not sure I would look so good on paper. But everything I read on their site about them is so true and they are such great parents and people.

The Nursery is Ready

How do I get ready for the baby when I have no idea what I'm having? I washed all my white and yellow onsies, blankets, and a few sleepers for the baby. I washed all the white crib bedding and put it on the crib so I have somewhere for the baby to sleep when we get home. We got the baby carrier down from the top shelf in the garage and I have two sweet little outfits all ready to be washed. There really wasn't much work to do and I'll have lots to do once I get home from the hospital.

It's so fun not knowing what we are going to have now that it is getting so close. Todd and I are trying to decide how to tell everyone after the baby comes - we might make all you locals come to the hospital to find out. Although knowing my family my mom or sister will have called everyone before I even know what I had. If you want to be on the call list let me know and I'll make sure you get called as soon as possible after the baby comes.

The Big Girl Bed

Saturday Claire went down for her nap as usual and didn't make a sound. Then after about an hour I was walking back to my room and when I passed her room the door was open and she was standing there with only a shirt on and the room smelled HORRIBLE. So I yelled "Todd get the camera you have to see this!"

Claire took everything out of her drawers (luckily most of her clothes are hung in the closet). She pulled all her books and toys off the bookshelf, took off her poopy diaper (it's sitting right in the middle of the floor), and dumped out her little Tupperware of hair elastics (you have to look close to see these on the floor). Luckily for me she had no desire to touch or play with her poopy diaper so it just sat there in the middle of the room. She is the first of the 3 kids to quietly play in her room before, during and after she sleeps - so this is all new to us. Last week in the morning Todd heard her playing and when he walked in she was playing with toys completely naked (no poop thank goodness). We need to get a peep hole put in her door so we can keep an eye on this little rascal. At night she doesn't get out of bed either - she just sits in her bed crying until we come in. We had to get those special door handles for the boys to keep them in their rooms when they first experienced the freedom of a big kid bed, but not Claire she just waits for us to come to her if she needs something or gets out of bed if she wants to play.

Here is what her room looks like when she hasn't been in there playing.

Chelsea's B-day

This weekend was Chelsea's b-day and the kids were so excited. We have started letting them pick out their own presents for people. They love it and it always ends up being a little more entertaining than when Todd and I just get something from them. Saturday Todd took the boys to the mall and they got Chelsea some very bright jewelry. The boys said "Chelsea loves big necklaces and earrings" so that's what they got. Here is picture of her showing off her sweet new presents from the boys (belt, earrings, necklace and bracelet - there are also a very large pair of bright yellow star earrings that aren't in the picture).

Flashback Friday

Summer Vacation 1984

As far as I can remember this is the most kids we ever had go on a family vacation together (we are missing Timmy and Mark - but 8 of us kids were on this trip). My parents took us on a church history tour this summer. We all piled in the van and headed north from Missouri. We went to the Johnson Farm in Ohio, the Kirkland Temple (that's where I met Peter Vidmar and Steve Young), then up to New York to the Sacred Grove, Hill Cumorah and we even went up to Canada and Niagara Falls (not part of the church history but fun). I was 12 years old and this is one of my most memorable family vacations. Here are some sweet shots from the trip.

(Top Row: Steve, Mom, George, Dad
Middle Row: Sherry, Kathy, Danny,
Bottom Row: David, Heidi and Jeannie)

Here I am at the Sacred Grove. This was incredible, my parents had each of us go off on our own and pray and I will never forget the peace I felt or what a testimony builder this was for me. I found a leaf on the ground and pressed it and it was in my scriptures for years.

This picture was just too classic to pass up. No-one has combed hair and we all look so dirty. Check out Danny's baseball shoes and the crazy shorty shorts that he and I are wearing with the matching triple stripe.

Apparently as long as I changed my shirt I was good to go. This is Jeannie and I.

Not a great picture by any means, but I have to document family badminton. We played this game so much when I was a kid and my dad rocks at it. He could beam us so hard and we could never beat him. 2 years ago we tried to take him on as adults and still couldn't beat him.

All the Small Things

So much has happened in the last week.

Roman's Blessing: It was so great to be apart of my newest nephew's blessing day. He is the cutest, sweetest little guy. It was great to spend time with the family and celebrate such a wonderful day.

Birthdays: June is a big birthday month for the Schultz Family. Happy Birthday to my dad, my brother Mark and my nephew Allen. And this Sunday is Chelsea's (our awesome nanny) b-day. The kids have been singing a lot of happy birthday this week.

Baby's First Purchase: I finally bought something for our baby. It hasn't been tempting to shop since I have no idea what we're having. Today I bought some cute white bundlers and jammies so I can have something washed and ready for the little one to wear the first few days at home. I also bought a pink and blue footed jammie for the hospital. I can't believe we are going to find out what color in 5 short weeks.

A Healthy Baby: I had an appointment this week and it's always so great to hear the baby and know things are progressing normally. And this week our baby is finally head down so that has taken a lot of stress off me. I hate standing on my head to get the baby to turn.

Happy Birthday Dad

Today is my dad's birthday so I thought I would take a few minutes to give him a shout out. I might be slightly prejudice but I think I have the best dad in the entire world.

My dad was so great when I was growing up he taught me the importance of hard work which has gotten me to where I am in life. He always had his priorities straight I don't ever remember him coming home from work and being too stressed out from a hard day to get down and play with us and be a dad. He never brought home his work, when he came home he was 100% ours and I never realized how important this was until I became a mom and I struggle so much to leave work at work and really be there for my kids.

My dad has more patience than anyone I have ever met - to put up with 10 kids and a very spunky mom. I don't remember him ever raising his voice at us - he just mastered the "look" which struck fear into us kids. I'm sure I didn't appreciate him for how amazing he was when I lived at home, but the older I get the more I realize just how amazing my dad is.

My dad has always been a worth priesthood holder and I can remember so many times as a kid waking him up in the dead of night because I was sick and needed a blessing. Never once did he tell me I was fine and to wait until morning. I remember one time it was because my knee hurt - growing pains I'm sure and it was 2:00 am. Not a word of complaint from him, he simply got out of bed and took care of me. Even now I won't turn down the yearly "back-to-school" blessing from him even though I've been out of school for a very, very long time.

My kids absolutely love their grandpa. I am so glad that I live a half mile away from him. He's always there when I need him and I love it when he just stops by. He's always ready for a party especially with his kids and grand kids. He bought 2 boats just so he could play with us all summer at the lake.

Happy Birthday Dad! I love you and am glad I was lucky enough to be part of the best family in the world!!!

Nesting?

You can call it nesting, but I personally think I just had a lot to get done this weekend. I don't think the projects stopped all weekend and we still have a few left for next weekend. Here is a recap of what we did this past weekend.

Claire's Room: It's official Claire is a big girl and couldn't be more excited. We got her new bed put up, my dad helped me put together a new bookshelf, put her new dresser in her room and did some redecorating. She LOVES her new bed and the freedom it brings. She doesn't come out of her room very much but every time I check on her she is doing something she shouldn't be. She likes to take the books off her bookshelf and line them up along the floor, she takes everything off the shelf above her bed (so this is being moved next week), she was pulling out wipes this morning as fast as she could and she completely ruined one of her books by pulling all the pages out. When she sleeps she pushes all her covers down, throws her pillow off the bed and sleeps like she is in a crib on the top third of her bed with just her silky blankets. It's very cute. (I will be posting pictures of her room soon)

Boy's Room: We moved the boys downstairs completely. They have been living half in each room - beds downstairs, clothes upstairs. But I cleaned out the entire closet and Todd moved the dresser so they are officially in the basement. I'm not loving having to walk up and down the stairs constantly to get their clothes and it is going to make laundry harder. But it's nice to have everything done.

The Nursery: The crib, dresser and glider are all moved into the nursery. Of course I can't decorate until after the baby is born, but at least everything is in the right place and it's cleaned out. Now we just have to figure out what to do with the blue race car bed (anyone interested???)

The Dishwasher: For the past few weeks our dishwasher has gotten progressively worse at getting the dishes clean. Neither Todd nor I are extremely handy with fixing appliances so we looked online and it said the filter is self-cleaning so we shouldn't need to do anything there. The water seemed to be running fine and I added some of the water stuff to it. But it was just getting worse and I ended up re-washing almost all the dishes. Yesterday I asked my dad what we should do and he said to clean the filter (they don't really clean themselves apparently). So Todd and I took apart the dishwasher and cleaned it - let me tell you it was so disgusting! I can't believe that I was eating off dishes that were washed in that machine (I might have to go strictly paper from now on). Seriously, it was so dirty but we got it all spic and span and Todd managed to put it back together (after every part he would say "I should have looked at how this was in before I took it out). Then we ran it empty last night to see if it would work and so far it's working like a charm.
