The Mystery Dinner
A few weeks ago when I was at book group the girls were all talking about doing halloween theme dinners for their kids. After a few minutes of feeling guilty for not doing this for my kids I decided I was going to do it. Then when I realized halloween was on Sunday I made the decision to do it for the whole family - yep 36 people. With my family things are never small but at least you get lots of help. I of course went a bit overboard this year and am already planning what I'll do different next year.
So here's how it went down. I planned a menu with 14 items:
1. Mummy Brains (spaghetti)
2. Zombie Blood (ranch dressing)
3. Mummy Face (pizza)
4. Missing Fingers (bread stick)
5. Edible Eyeballs (carrots, cucumber, tomatoes)
6. Say Cheese (apple)
7. Cat Claws (fork)
8. Tombstone (spoon)
9. Make Me Smile (ice cream)
10.Forked Eyeballs (cake ball)
11. Yummy Monsters (cupcake)
12. Rotten Apples (apple juice)
13. Swamp Juice (mint tea)
14. Axe (knife)
Each kid got a menu to choose 3 courses for their meal from the funny names. They could combine them however they wanted to.
The kitchen is set up with all the stations ready to prepare each course.
We also put a sheet up so you couldn't see in the kitchen.

Lexie had a great 1st course - ranch dressing, a knife, fork and drink.
Luke was in heaven all night - he LOVED it!
After dinner we played "Just Dance 2"
It was such a great night. I am so glad my awesome friends inspired me to do something a little hard so I could make these memories with my family. My mom used to do mystery dinners for us when I was young and I loved them. Nothing better than bringing back traditions. We will for sure be doing this again.
