Old School Rock Crawl - May

This past May Jon competed in the Old School Rock Crawl held in Delta, UT. Our good friend Zach told him that he should enter in the competition and the he would be Jon's spotter. Of course Jon took him up on his offer. I wasn't able to be there for the first day of competition but I got to hear how great he was and how amazed others were at their performance.

Jon's dad and I, along with the nieces, arrived early Saturday morning for the last day of competition. It was really fun to see Jon compete and do so well. He had a huge grin on his face the whole time. He was also able to meet new people and make new friends. We all know how easy it is for Jon to make friends. One of his favorite sayings is "It's not what you know, it's who you know". So this was just another experience to add to his list of "who he knows".

The morning was warm and sunny but the afternoon quickly turned on us and there was thunder, lightning and pouring rain. It quickly passed and was sunny but not too warm. Jon finished the competition in first place and the others in his division weren't even close to his score. Jon even got interviewed by an outdoor TV show that airs locally and we got to watch him on TV a couple of weeks later - I was even in one of the shots at the end of the show. He had such a great time and I will never forget the goofy grin that was on his face the whole time.

Easter 2011

This year for our Moab Easter Safari trip we headed down the weekend before Easter. Jon had to work Easter weekend and plus it made it so we could do whatever trails we wanted without having to wait for the guided tours. The weather was great. The day we left was cloudy and rained after we headed out so we couldn't ask for anything better.

One day we went out to Tusher Tunnel, which is just a short drive from where we camp. We usually go out there every year but I never really take any pictures. It's like a cave that you can walk through to a open area on the other side. It's only about 50 yards long. It's a fun ride out there and something fun to do in the morning before we hit the trail.

One day we went on Hell's Revenge. Jon and I really like this trail. It's not hard, but it is short and easy. Plus who doesn't like to see all the slick rock?

Our camping spot is great because it allows for a lot of 4-wheeling and short trips while we are at camp. One of the favorite things to do are night rides. Jon went on a couple of night rides and had a ball. I stayed back by the fire each time because I did not want to get cold. We had a great trip and I really liked going early so the trails are packed with vehicles.

My Yellow Room

It is no secret that yellow is my favorite color. Since Jon doesn't really care what color I paint the walls (as long as I don't paint them red, especially if it is only one red wall - inside joke) I decided I would paint one of our spare bedrooms yellow - and I mean yellow.

First of all the room was covered in this hideous 80's floral wallpaper. Since removing wallpaper is a task that I can tackle I took it upon myself to take off all the wallpaper. Shortly before I started to remove the wallpaper an invoice from work caught my eye. One of our superintendents had rented a steamer to remove wallpaper at the owner's house. I thought, hey, we have a steamer I could use that to help remove the wallpaper. So glad I paid attention to the invoice and thought to use our steamer. I got the wallpaper down in one night.

After the wallpaper was down the real work began - for Jon. He patched holes, textured the walls and put up molding around the doors and along the floor. Then his dad came and textured the ceiling for us. He is so good at it and was done in like an hour. After all the texturing was complete Jon primed the walls and ceiling and began painting. He hates to paint and I helped him when I could. We still need to change out a couple of things but for the most part it is complete and I love my yellow room.

Paint to me is like a haircut. If I get a bad haircut - oh well, it'll grow back. If I don't like the color of the paint - oh well, Jon can paint it again - haha. I tell people I have a yellow room and then when they actually see it one of the first things out of their mouth is "that's a yellow room." Isn't that what I told you? Were you expecting purple or blue? Jon likes all the different hues it displays depending on the time of day and the light in the room. Yes I know it is bright but I love it and it makes me smile whenever I walk past it.

What Happened to March?

My goodness what happened to March? It came and left just like that. Oh wait I know - Jon and I were sick practically the whole month and were walking around in a daze. Somehow I ended up with a nasty cold/cough thing and I think Jon thought it looked so much fun that he decided he wanted it too (either that or my mother taught me well and I just had to share with him). I have to say that I came out better than Jon - he ended up with pink eye in both eyes. We are feeling much better and should do us for another year. Now, bring on the warm weather I say!!!

The February Blah's

I know why February is the shortest month of the year - it has to be the most depressing month of all the other months. Think about it

January - We're still reveling in all the festivities and new gadgets from Christmas and New Year.
March - Well besides the fact that it is my birthday month the temperature is getting warmer, we switch over to daylight savings time (HOORAY - ONLY 37 DAYS TILL THE SWITCH), glimmer of hope that spring is on its way and I can start planning my garden.
April - Yet even warmer temperatures, flowers are popping up and I can start early plantings
May - Summer is just around the corner and the garden should be planted
June, July, August - SUMMER IS HERE - need I say more
September, October - FALL - I love fall, the colors, smells and sounds. It's still warm with a slight crispness in the air
November - Thanksgiving
December - Christmas

Really what is there in February - besides being the hardest month to spell, dirty snow and cold temperatures?

And please don't say Valentine's Day. That is just some made up "holiday" for us to buy cards, candy, flowers, jewelry etc. I don't need a "holiday" for my man to tell me how much he loves me and how much I mean to him. We express this to each other every single day. He is lucky to find someone like me because we both feel this way about this supposed "holiday".

So if not Valentine's Day then maybe I could look forward to President's Day right? Wrong - if I actually had the day off from work then that would be something to look forward to but for now it is just another day.

So right now the best thing about February is that it is the shortest month of the year but somehow I have a feeling that it is going to feel like the longest. So looking on the bright side of things as I try to do - ONLY 24 MORE DAYS TO GO!!!

Wii Adults Just Want to Have Fun Too!!

Last weekend we had some friends over for a Wii night. We had a great time directing marbles through different courses, canoeing, archery, lumberjacking and dancing the night away with Just Dance 2. Once we starting dancing we had to open the windows – you can’t help but get into it. What a fun night!

Jon & John are really getting into it

I love how everyone is doing something different

Gotta love it!

A New Year's Celebration

To kick off the New Year we went shooting and snow wheeling. I really like to go shooting even if I can’t hit the target even 25% of the time, but the times that I do actually hit it I get so excited (if I could I would jump up and down, but probably not the best thing to do with a gun in your hand). It was a nice day, but with the snow on the ground eventually my feet started to get cold.

Setting up the target

After we had our fill of the guns we got in the cars to play in the snow. It was fun because we just kind of went wherever. Jon would get going so fast and then we would start to slide and it had me laughing so hard I was in tears. What a great way to spend a day off.
