Since Jack gets his cast off in the morning I thought I would remind myself what his little right arm looks like by looking at a few pre-fractured arm photos. The last one he has his cast on but I thought it was funny! Our neighbor across the street, Baylee, is 3 years old and she thinks Jack's cast smells so awful that everytime she smells something gross she says "ewwww that smells like CAST"!!!! It is hilarious....needless to say....we are ready to be able to bathe his arm again....Baylee is right...his hand smells very unpleasant:( 8 a.m. could not come fast enough!!!!

What Mr. Jack's been up to lately...
Mother's Day
We took Jack to Kotta Sushi Lounge and he decided to give us a great shot of his bottom two teeth after dinner! He ate rice with chopsticks...with our assistance of course:)
Nana and Grandpa came all the way from Lincoln, Nebraska to see him!
He had his first fever....turned out to be seasonal allergies.
Our friends Jeremy and Lindsay invited us over for a barbecue and I couldn't resist letting him get in the pool....so we wrapped up his cast....don't tell Dr. C!!!
Jack has been very busy lately! He went to the Dallas zoo with Mackenzie (although I don't necessarily recommend the Dallas zoo...half the exhibits were empty), his grandparents from Nebraska came to visit, he started picking up his own food/snacks and putting them in his mouth which is a nice break, he started climbing the walls of his crib even with a broken arm, he had his first "sickness" aka seasonal allergies, and he went swimming at Mackenzie's house. He gets his cast off Thursday at 8 a.m. thank the good Lord!!!!! He's done really well with it but I'm just exhausted from how high maintenance it has been as far as not getting his arm wet, putting shirts on him, the hot weather, etc.

It's on Sunday evenings and we have our second class tomorrow so we don't know much yet:) This past week we started "pack in play time". He does about 20-30 minutes at a time right now which I am so thankful for! Erik decided this past week that his pacifier was surely a "sleep prop" so no more pacifier when he goes down for naps or bedtime. All good except guess who has to listen to him cry during the day? Me. It only took 2 days for him to self sooth without his paci and go right down but it was difficult to listen to him cry it out again...I thought we were done with that? I must say in Erik's defense, Jack has slept like a ROCK without his paci. He hardly makes a noise from 7-7.
We'll post some pictures on Thursday after his little cast gets taken off! I'm couting down the days!!!

JTO- Hangin' Tough
A lot of you have been asking for an update on Jack and in a nutshell he is doing awesome even with his broken arm. He gets a little frustrated that he can't grab things like he once could but 2 days after breaking his arm he was already trying to crawl in his cast!!! He is so tough. After he broke his arm he stopped crying after 2 minutes and was trying to dive out of my arms to start playing again and I knew his arm was broken...crazy boy! Jack has heavily favored his left hand since he was born (picked up a toy with his left, sucked his left thumb, grabbed for things with his left, etc) and now it will be a miracle if this boy turns out right-handed considering his left hand is the only one in full use this month. He is not very interested in crawling anymore because he gets frustrated with his cast (understandable) so he is pretty much walking in his walker or walking holding my hand to wherever he wants to go. Dr. C (the sports medicine doc) says he may just skip crawling all together so we should be prepared and get baby-proofed.
One exciting thing is he started giving kisses to Erik and I (and apparently our 7 month old neighbor Ella). Jack has never been a cuddler, he doesn't want to be held, and he has never let me rock him or anything...he is such a boy...BUT he will give mommy kisses so I'll gladly settle for that.
The only other new thing I can think of is that he LOVES grilled chicken (in very small peices of course).
Here are a few picture updates!
this is where Jack (Houdini) somehow managed to maneuver himself 6 whole inches to the ground with enough force to break his arm....
going to our neighbor, Emmerson's, birthday party in style....diaper bag, birthday present, and 7 month old with a broken arm in tow
Jack LOVES that shirts are a bit of a challenge these days!
We met Erik for lunch at Willow Bend and Jack was SOOO excited to see him!
we managed a few mintues of play time with daddy at Willow Bend! Friday, May 2, 2008
Good news and bad news
The good news is.....I posted some really cute 6 month pictures of Jack in the previous post. The bad news is that our precious little son broke his arm on Wednesday. Jack and I were in the front yard as we usually are late in the afternoon and he somehow managed to dive out of his bumbo seat onto the grass and landed awkwardly enough to break his little right arm. I was planting a few flowers and he was only 2 feet from me when he must have decided he wanted to be one with the grass below him. I turned around just in time to see him diving off the side. Even though he wasn't even a foot off the ground I knew when I saw how he landed that something must have broken. He did surprisingly well considering the circumstances...he cried for about 5 minutes and he was done. Erik says I cried much more than Jack cried. In fact, he slept through the splinting/casting process which I was so thankful for. I credit the prayers from a lot of friends and family for Jack being so comfortable and cooperative through all the doctor visits. We saw a pediatric sports medicine and spine doctor yesterday (thursday) and he was very confident that after 4 weeks in full arm cast Jack would be just fine. Amazingly enough he is still napping well and sleeping through the night so we are also thankful he is getting comfortable sleep. I will post pictures of the "crime scene" soon...but for now here are a few pictures of his splint and his cast. THANK YOU THANK YOU for your sweet messages and prayers during this difficult week.
my poor baby outside the ER
slept throught the splinting process
already on the prowl in his cast
We took Jack to see "the cobra" (corby davidson) from the Ticket and he LOVED Jack...he came up to talk to him and love on his broken arm...despite what sounds like on "The Hard Line" he is such a kind, kind man. Jack has now met Bob, Dan, Donovan, Mike, and Corby. He is the ultimate "P1"!
