Day Trip to Keller

This past week I took Jack on a little day trip to see "aunt Lindsey" and "uncle Bryon" in Keller. Lindsey was my Maid of Honor and she is truly one of the most selfless people on this earth. Needless to say, Jack LOVES Lindsey!!! Jack also loved Lindsey and Bryon's dog Judge. We took Jack to their neighborhood pool and Jack, in true fashion, was making friends with everyone...he was just begging people to make eye contact with him! Lindsey taught him how to blow bubbles in the water to help him swim and it worked...except now he does it outside the water too! So my son goes to the church nursery today making "gas" sounds at the nice volunteers. Yikes. Thanks Linds! While we are on the nursery subject, we went to pick up Jack today from the nursery and this is what the director tells us.

nursury director (to Erik): "Whew....you better not EVER get mad if your wife doesn't have the dishes done or dinner cooked because your son is constantly on the go! She has a really hard job!!! He is a good natured little boy but he has been all over this room for 2 straight hours! We're going to have to take turns chasing him around or something"
Jerica: "Thank you for appreciating what I do during the day. *jokingly* We'll bring the tranquilizers next week!"
nursery director: "Yea...bring some for us!"

Jack has climbed out of his walker to the floor, gotten half way over the wall of his crib, and started scaling the walls of his pack n play! 3 year old soccer/energy spender couldn't come fast enough for little Jack man.

Thanks for the fun time in Keller, Lindsey and Bryon! Your home is beautiful!

Let's go walkin'!

5 steps closer to walking...

Jack is up to 5 steps! He started with 2 steps at a time and moved up quickly so now he can walk across a room! We counted 5 controlled steps today! We finally got the gate up on the stairs Saturday and it took Jack about 2 minutes before he figured out how to open it. Great. We are so happy for him but it does make us realize that he is growing up fast. A few new things he's eating are: organic blueberry waffles, morningstar veggie chikin nuggets and corn dogs. Things are moving quickly in the Olson household...the stage he is in is nonstop. This is what Jack is up to this summer on a typical day:
7- wake up, eat, go for a run with mommy, play
9-naptime!
11-wake up, eat lunch, play or go to the pool on a nice day
1-naptime!
3ish-wake up, snacktime, play
6ish-dinner, playtime with dad, bathtime
7:30-bedtime!
Erik calls Jack his little "snack pack"
I love my little man...he's growing up way too fast!
Playing at Willow Bend after church.
Uncle Jeremy came to visit...He loves Jack!
about to practice his "back dive"...just kidding...obviously
but he loves being thrown really high in the air and going under water...he knows to close his mouth before he hits the water!
umm...I'm pretty sure chocolate chip cookie dough isn't in my 8.5 month old's list of food options...but what are dads for eh?
eating organic veggie "chikin" nuggets and of course blueberries with his friend Emma!

Our Wobbly Walking Blueberry Boy

A few things about Jack this week:
While he was sick the only solid food that he would eat was blueberries. I had to go the market 3 times to replenish our supply! He ate about 2 pints of those things! He loves blueberries which I am okay with because of all the good antioxidants:)
Also, not only is he pulling up on everything but he is trying to go somewhere once he gets up. He actually took a few uncontrolled steps 2 nights ago and has been determined to practice upright transportation ever since! Slow down child! Mommy's not quite ready:( I included a few pics to show what we do during playtime.
Jack's favorite food= BLUEBERRIES
toy basket view from the top
chasing his shark...he has no fear of the water
Yes, he's trying to walk...he took 3 wobbly steps toward daddy!!!
about to get in trouble for chewing on the blinds

favorite new toy!
shed the shirt...and he's up!!!

"My dad can do it all"

Happy first Father's Day to Erik! Instead of dressing Jack in one of his usual little bubble outfits or a polo shirt for church on Sunday, he wore a shirt that said "my dad can do it all". Jack loves his daddy and he lets me know about it all day long when he screams DADADADA. We were in Target yesterday and every aisle we went to he screamed DADA as if we actually shopping for daddy and we were going to find him on one of these aisles. I kept saying "Jack, daddy is not at Target...he is at work" but he still kept screaming for him:) Jack got Erik private golf lessons and I got him a few suits and a sport coat (which sounds boring but when your husband has to wear the whole shabang (suit, shirt, tie) EVERYDAY you can never have anough suits)!!

Moments after becoming a father.
Fun in the sun! Jack always grins when he's with his daddy!
The way to my husband's heart is definitely through his stomach so for breakfast I made him upside down apple french toast.
Started off lunch with a bleu cheese lettuce wedge salad (Erik was in charge of setting the table)...
And my husband is a meat and potatoes man so I made an herb-crusted New York strip with mashed potatoes for lunch. *recipes compliments of Tyler Florence on "Tyler's Ultimate"
*Then right after lunch our weekend came to a screeching halt when Jack woke up from his nap with a fever. He had been having an on and off fever since Friday but I was just sure it was his teeth since he is drooling so much and biting everything these days. We decided to take him to Acute Kids and this is what followed*
Dr: Hi guys...what's wrong with the little guy?
Jerica: Well, he won't eat and he woke up with a fever.
Dr: Oh, see those little spots around his mouth? He has Herpangina.
Jerica: HERPANGINA???? No ma'am, that's left over sweet potato (as I clean his face off).
Dr: Okay well let's check him out. (proceeds to check throat and ears)
Yea, I see a lesion in his throat...he definitely has Herpangina.
Jerica: Herpan-what???
Dr: It is similar to hand, foot, mouth disease. This is the 10th boy I've seen today with Herpangina.
Jerica: Can we please call it something different?
Dr: It is very painful. It is usually about 5 different lesions in the mouth which is why he doesn't want to eat...and there is nothing we can do for it except let it run its course...and it is very contagious...and it lasts about 4 days...and there is a good chance he'll become dehydrated because it will be too painful to drink a bottle...
Jerica: So is there any good news??? Like pain relief???
Dr: You can mix a little benadryl with some maalox and give it to him to coat the sores.
Jerica: So you're telling me that my 8 1/2 month old has something called HERPANGINA that consists of very painful sores in the mouth and he probably contracted it from the church nursery?????? Oh my, there is something very wrong with this scenario.
So Camille and Brooke----if you could please tell your Dr. husbands to please rename this infant Herpangina that would be awesome....and maybe they could research some sort of antibiotic to get rid of this awfulness!
So I guess Erik will always remember his first father's day as the day his infant son got something called Herpangina...yikes...

Food and Fun!

Jack has been eating lots of different foods lately and since he can feed himself now we offer him more finger foods. We have been working on our high chair manners, baby sign language (specifically "more" and "all done"), pack n play time, blanket time, and saying "da da". We are doing about 30 minutes pack n play time and today we did 30 minutes of blanket time which was a record for little Jack! On Friday, Jack was eating a snack and he yelled "Whaaaa Da-Da" (where's daddy)...I immediately called Erik so he could here. Everytime Jack says hi to his grandparents on the phone he thinks it's daddy and just yells "DA DA DA"...It's funny how I stay home with the little man yet all he can seem to yell at me all day is "DA DA DA DA":) Oh well. It is very cute!
Snacktime! His first taste of canteloupe.
We went to the new Mattitos they opened in downtown Frisco and Jack loved their gaucamole!
Jack is now walking sideways down the couch.
Since he loves standing so much, we got him some toys that he can stand and play with!
Trying to figure out the steering wheel!

he LOVES going to Daddy's office every Thursday for lunch
standing
Time to eat!
His first taste of chicken spaghetti...I had to put more on his highchair 3 times! Now we have to learn not to be so messy:)

8 months old

I feel like I can't keep up with what Jack's doing by blogging a few times a week but I thought I would definitely share these cute photos. In our toddler class we are learning about training his actions and effective methods of correction for an 8 month old and this information could not have come fast enough as we have a very curious, fearless BOY on our hands!!!
He likes looking at himself in the big mirror in our room.
And apparently he really likes himself!
This is a picture of Jack feeding himself "big people" food! He ate this pasta after we fed him one jar of sweet potato/chicken and another jar of summer vegetables. He must have been hungry.
YIKES! This is why we had to lower the bed! Today while he was napping I heard his mobile music start playing and somehow he climbed up and twisted the mobile so it would play music....aghhhh!
He must have decided that he needed to read his Baby Bible after all the mischievious activity:)

Hit the road, CAST!!! And don't ya come back no more no more no more no more....

Here is a recap of our weekend beginning Thursday morning at 8:00 when we took Jack to get his cast off!!! Woohoo!!! I really did wait for this day like I was a kid waiting for Christmas morning. An 8 month old in a cast during summer is NO fun. He didn't like the chain saw they used to take it off but once it was off he was fine. We thought when they took his cast off a bunch of puffs, wagonwheels, and sweet potato would fall out but it was actually pretty clean. When we got home of course we went to the pool to start making up for lost time:) He loved it! He went underwater 4 times and loved it. I would count to 3 before he went under so he'd know not to breath in water and after a few tries he finally got it. He's not too interested in crawling these days...he just crawls to our legs and pulls up because he wants to walk. The cast may have ended his crawling stage because all he wants to do is walk while holding our hands. The pictures tell the story of our weekend! Enjoy!

saying his last "goodbye" to the cast
right after the miniature chain saw scared him to death!
he went to daddy's office to show off his armready for his first post-cast swim!
happy boy!
