closing

We had our final walk through last night and we are scheduled to close today at 4. I'm so excited to see things that have been in boxes since last February and actually have a place to put them. This sounds a bit materialistic, I know, but it's not just the "stuff" I've missed...I've just missed having the ability to make my house a home...decorate...cook and have enough dishes to invite people over...you know...mom stuff I suppose...so excited for this weekend...

Hobby Lobby + Jerica = BFF

finally.

late night sonic

Erik and I are extremely guilty of several parenting no-no's but one that I will admit is that sometimes we can't resist our cute little kids and we will go and get them to spend the "late night" with us in our bed. Well this week, I cooked an AWFUL dinner (shocking I know) but this was AWFUL food...I followed a new recipe to the "t" and the whole dinner tasted like baked canola oil! Beside the point...moving on...we were all starving about 9 so Erik went and got Jack out of bed and went to get sonic. It was so fun eating sonic at 9:30 at night with our firstborn. He did get delirious and the night ended for him when he uttered/sang something like:
"I love you...you love me..we're a happy family. I need diet coke! *BELCH*" it was hilarious.

SODA. at 9:30. I can feel the judgment from blogland already:) I don't care. Such a fun memory.

pioneer woman

About a year ago I discovered a hidden talent. Cutting hair. Not womens hair just guys hair. I don't remember why I tried cutting Erik's hair but I did, and it looked good. So I've been his hair cutter ever since. Nothing fancy just a good ol' scissor haircut. Well good thing I have boys because I can just line them up once every few weeks and trim away. I feel like a pioneer woman of old. I am a cook, maid, nurse, decorator, and hair cutter. I feel like I should milk cows and churn my own butter or something.

after the haircuts...erik still has some on his shoulders...guess I should get one of those cool body tents or whatever they're called
post hair cut again. now let's take an eyes closed picture, erik!

okc thunder

Last night we took Jack to the OKC Thunder game and although they're not the most fun NBA team to watch Jack had a great time cheering on Kevin Durant. He even wore his Texas shirt to support KD.

Jacob is clearly trying to steal food from Jack. Such foreshadowing of things to come:)

Erik grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska so here are the boys in their husker gear.

picture day

It was picture day at MDO this week so before school Jack and I had a practice posing session. It was a little drizzly so there are a few wet spots in the pics.

(not so) well checks

Both Jack and Jacob had well visits with our pediatrician today and everything went as planned until Dr. K looked at Jack's ears...double ear infection...what?!?!? I had no idea. He's a champ. Jacob's stats were as expected. Tall and "healthy". We are also going to try going to a regular formula to see if Jacob is still lactose intolerant so I'm nervous about that:(
Jack is still on the petite side and the doc says don't worry he will be a late bloomer. They did do his first eye check which was really cool and he has perfect vision which is good news.
Here are their stats.
Jacob at 6 months-20lbs
Jack at 2 years-25 lbs

Watch out Jack, little brother is gaining quickly!!!

blonde hair

Since I have some recent pics of the Olson side of the family coming down for Jack's birthday, I thought I would take the opportunity to prove that blonde hair does run in our family:) If I had a penny for everytime I answer questions about that we'd be living somewhere in the carribean.

south on 35

Headed to Dallas for a quick weekend trip. Since we're moving into our house next week we thought this would be a perfect time to visit before we get too busy with the house. State fair here we come. Jack is so excited. Jacob is clueless and cute:) Oh and how could I forget ... HOOK EM. However I am a little nervous for the horns because they've won the last 2 years and I don't know if they can do it THREE years in a row:) We shall see...

have a great weekend.

my salad loving son.

Some of you have asked about Jack's healthy eating tendencies. I can sum it up by saying that I went and got him and ice cream cone after mdo for doing such a good job using the big potty. I handed him the ice cream cone and about 15 minutes later he hands it back. He never even took ONE lick...not one. I wish I had that problem...unfortunately I'm left to finish off Jack's dessert and Jacob won't be any help given his lactose intolerance.

No, no ice cream or cookies for Jack. He prefers steamed broccoli, no butter. We've actually started making him eat the fattening stuff first before we'll give him his vegetables. When's the last time you heard "Eat all your dessert first, then you can have the healthy stuff". Never thought I'd have this type of picky eater.

And I have to note that he hasn't even touched his birthday cake/cupcakes for 2 years in a row. Maybe next year I'll make him a steamed vegetable cake.
Now I'm not complaining because lots of people think this is a blessing....but really...Jack could stand to put on a few (10) lbs!!! He falls down when his buddy Mackenzie hugs him. And sadly, I can fit a pair of Jacob's 3 month shorts around Jack's 2 yr old waist.

catching up...

It's been a while since I uploaded pictures so I will try and get caught up on the last few weeks!

A couple of weeks ago I made a quick trip to Frisco to help with a fun shower for Lindsay and baby Conner. SO FUN and much needed girl time.

Jack went to Noah's birthday party at gymboree and had a blast!

Jacob started to stand against furniture.
He also accidentally rolled from his back to his tummy today for the first time...Jack rolled over somewhere around 3 months....Jacob is almost 6 months...I love this kid:)
the drool isn't new...just cute:)

This picture says it all...Jack is very much a daddy's boy these days!

driving his new gator

Our friend from Baylor, Jeff, got to meet Jacob.

In anticipation of getting to complete Jacob's nursery in the new house, I finally ordered his bedding...about 5 months late I know...but we have been living in a constant state of transition for a few months!

Hangin with dad. (not the best picture of Jack)

birthday festivities

Since we don't know a lot of people here yet we had an intimate gathering for Jack's john deere birthday party. A few friends from Jack's mdo along with some family came over to celebrate. Jack got lots of fun things but Erik and I got him his peg perego john deere gator, nana and grandpa got him a cool comfy chair, and granna got him a bike and a tractor. He woke up on his birthday and he came into the living room where Erik had blown up tons of balloons which Jack loved! His favorite thing about his birthday was having people sing to him...he loved the birthday song!

After 2 years of life....

after we brought Jack home from the hospital (look at his skinny legs!)
can't believe this sweet face is 2!!!

This will probably be a meaningless post for most but since we don't live in the same city as family/close friends I just had to post some things about Jack now that he's 2!

Most recently, our biggest change is being potty trained. He has had one accident in the last month so we're proud of him.

His biggest thing is VERBAL SKILLS. It overwhelms me to think of a way to desribe his talking. He talks to everybody and says everything.

Example: I've been teaching him to memorize "Lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path." Yes, he says it all. He sees people he doesn't know and says "hi new friends". He counts to ten. He says a is for apple b is for bear and c is for cupcake. He calls Erik and I by our first names on occasion. When he meets someone new he shakes their hand and introduces himself as "Jack Thomas Olson". When he leaves people he says "have a good day (insert first name)". He knows lots of songs and loves to sing "deep and wide" with the hand motions. He is very outgoing and he gives me opportunities to meet lots of new people! :)

He is still a health food nut. I finally got him to eat a form of mac and cheese but it has to have broccoli in it. Loves fruit, vegetables (especially salad), and grilled chicken or fish. I got him an ice cream cone the other day and never even licked it! Oh my.

On the downside, he requires lots of correction and instruction these days. He is smart enough to test us and the easy thing to do would be to pass everything off as cute but these are prime teaching moments!

He is still on the petite side with his weight but good news...we finally reached 25 lbs!!!!

We know God gave him his personality for a reason so we just pray everyday that we can help equip Jack to further God's kingdom.

Jack the BIRTHDAY BOY!!!!

HAPPY 2ND BIRTHDAY TO JACK!!!!
