Our First Egg!

After approximately 4 years of attempting to have egg laying birds we got our first egg this morning!
We first started with baby chicks. They grew, got ugly, made a mess, and then were either killed, ran away, or died before laying any eggs :(
Next we tried baby ducks. We heard the eggs are great and the mid-aged chicks are way cuter. We got fewer birds (less mess) and did our best. They did lay eggs....but never anywhere consistent and we always found them weeks later or smashed.
Finally, Ry took these full grown ladies on trade for part of a windshield (yes, totally old school bartering) and two days later.......TA DA......our first edible egg!

Goats and Goodbyes

My absolute favorite (and really only thing i like) about spring is the babies! They are everywhere. Baby cows, baby sheep, baby goats, baby pigs, baby chicks......i love them all. Our neighbors have quite the collection of animals and yesterday we got to go meet all the new baby goats.
Paige is usually our timid one around animals but she loved the fact that goats dont scratch or bite. A perfect match for her!
We sent our Uncle Austin off to the MTC on wednesday. It was a tearful and joyful departure. What a handsome missionary....wouldn't you say!
The saddest part of all was him leaving the kids. They LOVE Unlce Aust. He is great with kids and was the most sad about missing the next couple years of them growing up :( I love Ali's look in this photo.....very telling of her personality :)
