Joy {Alaina's Persuasive Essay on Adoption}

During Alaina's 3rd grade English, she was learning how to write a 'persuasive essay.'  My sensitive, out-going girl decided to write her paper on adoption.

The minute Alaina entered our arms, we noticed this charm about her. Since she came home, we have witnessed over 30 babies find homes. Her charm has always encouraged others to buy plane tickets to... China. So, when she told me she was going to convince Daddy to adopt a sister, I wasn't surprised. I think her essay is well thought out and her facts are very true. Oh my heart. :)

I love how BJU Press takes them step by step through the process.  First, she came up with an 'opinion statement.'  Then, she needed two reasons why she believes in her opinion statement.  With each reason, she needed facts to back up her opinion.

She put lots of thought into each reason and each fact is true, sadly.

(Be sure to click on the picture so you can read it better.)

After posting her proud picture on facebook, many fun comments were received.  One comment, got me thinking.  It took me several days to think through it.

"When you put it like that, how do you ever stop adopting?"

Wow, this is such a tough question for me.  I’m always open to adopting, if God calls us. Joel and I might be 'done' adding more, but our family...from generation to generation will not forget, I pray.

I think of the verse "Once our eyes are opened, we can't pretend we don't know what to do. God, who weighs our hearts and keeps our souls, knows that we know, and holds us responsible to act." Proverbs 24:12

So,...I can't forget the ones left behind. It's with me daily. Until I die, God has called me to educate, share the truth, and advocate for these little people left behind.  It's always in my heart and mind.

Not everybody is called to adopt but we are all called to do our part...widows and orphans...all over the world.  By sharing my heart, boldly, it helps me feel like I'm making a difference...one by one.  As each baby/child comes home to their forever family, I experience pure joy.

So, yes, I would adopt more if God wants us to. In the mean time, I will continue sharing my heart and praying more Christians step up…adopting, foster care, sponsoring, visiting.

Alaina deciding to write a paper to convince others to adopt, including our family, brings me great joy.

Happy Referral Day, Hudson!!

Five years ago, TODAY, we saw our Hudson's sweet face for the first time. We waited two years for that moment. Seems like yesterday that we were calling and emailing all our friends to tell them the news.

Oh how I love him sooooo much!!

If you want to read our adoption and travel stories, you can go to our very out dated website. (Ms. Alexis is too busy creating websites for others to work on mine..sigh :) ) www.ouradoptionblessings.com

We love you, Hudson!!

2010 Highlights!

Yes, you read that correctly. Sigh. I'm only 3 months delayed. I really did start this post in December. :)

Then, my computer crashed. If you have ever experienced such a thing, you understand that getting to your digital pictures is not so convenient.

I'm praising God that we were able to retrieve all the files!

Then, we had to make it usable.

Reachable.

Available to finish this post.

And now, I'm sharing ONE computer with a teen website designer until I can get a new computer. I know you won't believe it when I say that the computer won't allow me to download my pictures.

It's all good...and I am kind of excited (a lot!!) to get a new computer...soon, I hope.

It's always fun to look back over the year and remember the blessings of each new day. Clicking through the pictures, I'm amazed how the kids change and grow up right before our eyes.

Without further delay, here is our 2010 in review.

January 2010

Joel’s dad had a stroke before Christmas and he spent several weeks of January in the hospital. During that time, we had Joel’s family staying at our house so that visiting the hospital was easier. {We are thanking God for a full recovery and a complete miracle.}

Basketball was in full swing.

Alaina was an Upwards Cheerleader for the first time.

February 2010
Alexis turned sweet 16.

Chinese New Year with our local adoption group.

February brought many snowy days and several winter parties.

After being in the house for days, it seemed, we were all ready to get out and have some fun. I helped organize the homeschool Valentine party for 100 people.

We enjoyed the Shriners circus during a winter snow storm.

March 2010

Travel soccer took us to the beach...and while there, got to visit with friends.

More dance competitions...

And basketball came to a close.

April

Easter was really early this year and was celebrated between Alaina’s and Joel B’s birthdays.

A very special friend and her family visited Alaina. In the near future, I want share something special about them.

Alexis and Alaina's end of the year dance recital.
Busy month of bringing closure to each activity in our lives. Awanas, dance, soccer,..to name a few.

Hudson gave up his naps. Benjamin still needs them.

We finally finished potty training the little guys in June. No more diapers at our house...for now.

And then there was sweet Summer...

June

Dance! New teams. New routines. New friends. New adventures. Alaina joined her sister in dance competitions and made the Bitty Tap and Bitty Lyrical teams.

Enjoyed visiting friends that we have not seen in almost 10 years. I'm always grateful to those that will welcome a family of 8 into their home.
God bless 'em.

Cincinnati Reds game.

{This is Joel and me a few years ago. Just kidding! Adam and Eve.
Don't they look amazingly real?}

The Creation Museum was beyond incredible!

Excited to meet Dana and Victor at A Helping Hand, the agency that brought Benjamin into our lives.

Benjamin met Dr. Burgess from Shriners Hospital. He loved him. Eventually, I want to share the details of our trip. The most wonderful place.

While waiting to see Dr. Burgess, Benjamin met a new friend. I LOVE this picture as the two little guys are noticing each others' little hands' for the first time.
Special friends visited a few days. Imagine: four adults and 11 kids!
