Sunday

An Extension

My math teacher was recently replaced with a much more competent professor (YAY!!). Well, as I realized today that I'd completely spaced doing any of my math this week and that I had several (i.e. 7!) quizzes/assignments that were ALL due by tonight, I was starting to stress out just a bit. So I logged onto my online site to get started, and I noticed an announcement posted by the new instructor. Since she was just getting the hang of things, she was giving us a 2 day extension for all of the above assignments. Total blessing! And now I will make extra certain that I keep on top of all my homework from now on!

Thursday

A Successful Bribe

This morning I had to run a few errands. Normally Derk is able to go into work a bit later when I have important things to do, but today he had an early meeting. So instead of waiting until tomorrow, I decided to be brave and take all 3 kids with me (I normally avoid taking all 3 anywhere by myself at all costs). I gave them a little pep talk in the van on the way there about how I wanted them to behave. Then I decided to sweeten (pun intended!) the deal and told them we'd stop at McDonald's and get them each an ice cream cone if they were good. And they. were. AWESOME!! I was so impressed and so proud of them. Hooray for successful bribes! ;)

Monday

A Hand Injury

I hurt my hand in a totally random way. As I was trying to come up with a blessing for today, I realized that it's a huge blessing that it was my left hand that got hurt and not my right (I'm right handed). That's about all I can come up with for today, though. ;)

Friday

A Zero Balance

I got a bill in the mail a few days ago for the repeat CT scan I had done back in December. I opened it up and noticed on the statement that it didn't say anything about insurance adjustments/payments. All it had was the total amount to be paid, which was $220. Yuck. So I decided to call and make sure that amount was after my insurance paid its share (I don't know what my insurance covers for procedures like this, but I thought my payment would be quite a bit less than that $220!). So the lady on the phone tells me that our insurance did make a payment (which was made after the bill was sent) and that they paid.........drum roll please.........100% of the balance!! AWESOME!!!

Sunday

A Great Valentine's Day Dinner

Derk and I aren't big into Valentine's Day. We don't like the idea of showing someone you love them because you feel you have to. I'd much rather Derk bring home a random bouquet of flowers or a small gift any other day, simply because he's thinking about me, not because of what day it is. So we don't do presents usually. This year, Derk went out and bought all the ingredients for a yummy dinner without telling me, and it was a nice surprise. Then he cooked it all, and it was fabulous! We had salmon, asparagus, garlic bread and strawberry shortcake for dessert. Yum. He also did the dishes, which is a present in and of itself! :)

Saturday

A Fun Movie Experience

Today we took the kids to see the movie Percy Jackson & the Olympians: Lightening Thief. Derk and I really love to go to movies, and we love to watch movies with the kids. So we decided a while ago to start taking them more often so they'd get used to it and behave better. And they do awesome now! One of our theaters here offers free popcorn for every 2 movie tickets you buy, so we always get a free tub of popcorn every time we go. We just plop that popcorn right in their laps, and they are glued to the screen and have a great time. We all enjoyed this movie and our time together, and there wasn't even one time that the kids started to misbehave. They were so perfect, and I am so grateful!

Friday

Our First Real Babysitter

Today, one of my Mia Maids babysat for us so Derk and I could attend a couples seminar at the college. It was our very first time ever having a teenager babysit, and it was also our very first time hiring anyone to babysit. So I was a little nervous, both because I was basically having a "kid" watch my kids AND because I had no clue what to pay her! But it worked out awesome. The kids had a fabulous time, I figured out what to pay her and most of all Derk and I had a great night out. The kids are already asking when she's coming back and have been talking about her almost non-stop. :)

Finding Asher

I can't let today go by without posting this. I just feel so grateful right now. And now my blessing of having a freezer meal for lunch seems pitiful in comparison.

We went out shopping tonight with Asher and Bri while Kyrie played at the neighbor's. While walking around, Asher noticed something he wanted to look at and ran off. Derk turned to go after him, but Asher managed to get out of sight very quickly. Long story short, it took Derk and I and the store employees about 10-15 minutes to find Asher. When I finally saw his little face, I started sobbing and just held him for the longest time. People were looking at me funny, but I didn't even care. I could barely stand up at that point because all the adrenaline finally caught up to me. I couldn't even bring myself to punish him. I was just so insanely grateful that he was okay and hadn't wandered off out of the store....or worse.

A Freezer Meal

For Christmas, Derk got me a set of freezer safe casserole dishes that I'd been wanting for months prior. When I was making dinner the other night, I decided to make a double batch and put my new dishes to good use. I put some in a casserole dish to feed the whole family one night, and then I put a little bit into an individual serving sized casserole dish. Well, we're really short on groceries right now since I haven't had a chance to go grocery shopping yet this week. As I was trying to figure out what to make for lunch, I remembered that meal I had in the freezer. It was a huge blessing for me today. I'm so glad I made that effort last week, and I'm grateful for the useful gift I got for Christmas.

Thursday

A Working Garage Door

Yesterday, as I was opening the garage to take Kyrie to dance class, the garage door broke. The little clip/pin thing that holds the arm of the garage door opener to the garage door fell out. I had to lift the garage door by hand to get the van out. It wasn't a big deal, but it was still annoying. I didn't have time to fix it because we were running late. When Derk got home, he was able to fix it right away. I'm grateful that Derk fixed it for me and that the garage door works again.

Tuesday

A Whistle

Asher learned to whistle several weeks ago, and ever since, Kyrie has been on a mission to learn how. Because if her baby brother could do it, she had to be able to do it, too! She finally figured it out tonight, despite us trying and trying to teach her. And she was so excited. And it was so cute. After we tucked her in, she just laid in bed whistling over and over for at least 15 minutes straight. :)

Monday

A Dollar

Tonight Kyrie lost another tooth. I helped her put it in a baggie to put under her pillow, and then I realized I didn't have a dollar to leave her. I felt so bad because she just loves to wake up and see that the Tooth Fairy came. And I love to see the excitement in her eyes. I felt like I should check my purse, so I did, even though I rarely have cash and figured I wouldn't find anything. But there was a dollar inside, and I know it was there just for Kyrie! A simple blessing, but a blessing just the same.
