Science Art

Getting creative with kids stuck inside can be an interesting task. Thank goodness for family/parenting magazines that come up with all sorts of crafts and activities. Today Chris had a friend over to play. The weather is so so here: cloudy, cool and chances of rain. I found this science art idea in a magazine and decided to give it a try. The kids weren't too sure at the beginning but when the ink started to flow and make different designs they all thought it was cool. All you do is cut the bottom circle out of coffee filters, use washable markers and make some designs on it, then punch a small hole in the middle, thread a wound up piece of filter through the hole and then place in a cup of water. The extra filter acts as a wick and sucks up the water to the paper you colored and the ink spreads. Very pretty and a neat thing to watch happen.

Christopher and his rocket

For Christopher's birthday this year Doug and I decided to do something a little different for his present. Chris loves to make things especially if it is with daddy. I happened to be looking at my book shelf and noticed this book on how to make machines. Perfect! We let Chris pick what he wanted to make with daddy and then we bought the materials and magic happened. Chris and Doug made this rocket that launches with water and air pressure. Christopher was very happy with his gift.

New Toy

I just got a new toy for myself and I'm so excited. After reading about pancake wrapped sausages that my friend's daughter wanted for breakfast I thought, "My kids would love that." So I looked online to see if there was a way to make them the old fashioned way. One site said to use a twinkie pan. I immediately started looking for twinkie pans to by and found one that didn't break the bank. Receiving the box was like Christmas and I ripped it wide open. Of course I had to try it to make sure it worked. Using a pineapple cake mix I whipped up these twinkie shaped cakes and then filled them with a coconut cream cheese frosting. Perfect. Now on to trying new flavors, fillings, and more!

Aprons

This weeks sewing club project was aprons. I think I chose the hardest one to make. Not really hard just time consuming. However, when I got it all done I thought it was so cute that I had to make Lexie one too. I'm just loving sewing right now.
My apron. Sorry folks not going to try it on for you. At 7 months pregnant nothing is going to look cute right now. :)

Now here is a cutie modeling her apron

More cuteness

New addiction

I love to cook. Some would say it's an addiction. I think I would agree. However, since I hurt my back I haven't been able to cook/bake as much as I or the guys at Doug's work would like. As mentioned before I became a member of a sewing club and we meet every week to work on the latest project. For some reason I haven't been able to stop there. I've been sewing like crazy. Potholders, dresses, purses, and yes even the pile of mending the male part of my family has left for me to do. I just can't stop. Yesterday I was looking through all the scraps of material and found this safari print. What in the world would I ever use it for? A dress for Lexie! I went online and found a free pattern and whipped this puppy out. It made me think of my friend Kerri who is in India right now. Super easy and perfect for summer. I love it.

Lepruchans

Leprechauns were running amok at Riverside Elementary School this year. The targeted class: 2nd grade and because Chris is in a combination class he was involved. They left glitter in and on desks. They messed up the teachers desk. I tell you havoc was wreaked. The only answer of course it to trap the little mischievous devil. Unfortunately, he or she got away, but everyone gave a good effort. Chris decided to try the old monkey and banana trick. He decorated his trap in a favorite leprechaun color (green) and filled it with gold to entice the leprechaun to put in his hand and thus get stuck when he tries to pull out all the gold. Good try Chris.

Easter Dress

An older lady I knew passed away awhile ago and happened to be an avid quilter. I was asked if I wanted any of her material so I said sure thinking that I would probably never get to it and would take it to my grandma when I went to visit. For some reason I decided to look at the fabric and I'm glad I did. It was all this pretty brightly colored velvet pieces. Wow! Not giving it to grandma after all. So, for Lexie for Easter I made her this dress and cute purse to match. Not bad if I do say so myself.

Bright Potholders

I'm so happy with my new potholders. They are so bright and cheery and now I can throw away the yucky ones. The instructions were super easy to follow. If you are interested here is a link to make your own.

Evan and Alexis

A picture just because

Mutiny!

This morning I went to get Alexis out of bed as I normally do, but today I had a near mutiny on hand. I enter her room and as her eyes land on me she yells "Noooooooo! Daddy!" You see Doug normally has Fridays off, but due to doctor appoointments he took Monday off and had to work today. Somehow I think Alexis knew that today was Friday and daddy should be home and she wanted him not mommy. As I tried to explain that daddy was at work out came her anguished cry "NOOOOOOOOOO!" You would have thought the world was coming to an end. Well I'm feeling the love. How about you?

Flashback

So, after having made hats for the boys I couldn't leave our little girl out. I had some leftover material from a diaper bag I made last year and as it turns out the two together give you a flashback feeling to the 80's. Coupled with this outfit and I think little: "material girl".
This first shot looks to me like she is a prison inmate with stripes and all. She is not happy if you couldn't guess. I wouldn't give her candy just as she wanted it given to her. Aka: the whole bowl at once.

80's all the way

You tell Lexie to smile and say cheese and this is the look you get. Funny munchkin.
