thirty-six

In the middle of May, I celebrated my 36th birthday.  My family threw me a surprise shin-dig and my mind was blown at their secret keeping and creativity!!

My favorite decade was represented in style, music, dance, games, food, and most importantly...FUN!

Graham had a photo booth complete wth all the accessories!

How fun is this?!

Thank you, family!  It was a birthday party for the books! Can't wait to see what y'all come up with for my party next year! *wink, wink

Five on Friday | Favorite Podcasts

This Five on Friday is devoted to *some* of my favorite podcasts...

| ONE |

Signposts with Russell Moore | This is a biweekly podcast that features conversation about the gospel, politics, books, and much more.
| TWO |

SerialSerial is a podcast from the creators of This American Life, hosted by Sarah Koenig. Serial tells one story—a true story—over the course of a season. Each season follows a plot and characters. It's fascinating!

| THREE |

The Dave Ramsey Show | I listen to Dave just about every day.  I read Financial Peace right after G and I married and we lived debt-free for many years.  Slowly, life happened and we got off track.  We are finally one the road to becoming debt-free again.  I would love to travel to Nashville to do our "debt-free" scream this fall, but that probably won't work out.  We aren't far from being able to shout, "WE'RE DEBT FREE!"

| FOUR |

The Gospel CoalitionThe Gospel Coalition Podcast features lectures and workshops from TGC conferences as well as timely interviews and round table discussions on applying the gospel to the issues of our day.
| FIVE |

CriminalCriminal is a podcast about crime. Not so much the “if it bleedsit leads,” kind of crime, but something a little more complex. Stories of people who’ve done wrong, been wronged, or gotten caught somewhere in the middle.

Those are some of my favorite podcasts.  Please comment and share with me ones that you like. I am always in the market for a listen.

on TeeVee???

I'm not going to beat around the bush or make excuses--my guilty pleasure is The View. Thank you, DVR! Yesterday on the show, Whoopi asked for viewers to hashtag instagram photos of their summer with the chance that they could be used in a photo collage backdrop during the show.

I selected a few of my summer instagrams and...

I was notified that my pic of the girls warming up after a swim was chosen.

Did you see it?  It was just a split second shot, but still pretty cool to me.

I'll stand by you...

I have not been a fair-weather fan when it comes to THE OFFICE.  I realize that it peaked years ago, but Graham and I have stuck with them--seen every episode.  There were several episodes over these past two years in which I literally didn't even crack a smile, but I've held on...

The past two episodes have been really good.  In fact, last week's episode was hysterical--old Jim was back and I liked it.  I cried and laughed.

I blame Steve Carell.  Why did he have to leave?  Seriously, what awesome role has he landed since leaving the show?  I draw a blank.

But, alas, it's over.  This Thursday marks the final episode of the series.  I'm sad and happy all at the same time.  I still think it should have ended with Carell's departure.  What's the office without Michael Scott?  I also think he could have at least shown some decency and appeared in the final episode.  But every source I've read says that he didn't.  I've got so many great possible endings running through my head, but they all include Michael Scott's return.

So...
Who's with me? Who'll be watching?  Who's stuck with them?

week/weak review

Our week:
  • AG has discovered infomercials.  This morning, she informed me that steel springs cause back pain and  lack of energy.  (Thanks, Sleep Number!)
  • While eating dinner on Monday night, the drum light fell from the ceiling stopping just before it landed on the table.  Great!  Thankful that nothing was damaged and we weren't out any money to have it repaired. (gotta love that our church is full of handy-men)
  • My computer semi-crashed on Tuesday.  I got it back yesterday and it is still having problems.  *sigh*
  • AG just finished her fifth reader.  She read two new books this week!
  • I just got word that the baby bedding should be here next week!  So excited.
  • I got semi-bad/semi-good news from the doctor.  Apparently, this 'platelet thing' isn't going away.  I'll share in a later post. I've got some questions and concerns.  Good news:  Blood work is better and the anemia is lessening and platelets aren't affecting baby Joy.
  • Edy has a mullet.  We are going for a haircut this afternoon.  Can't wait to see her with a new stacked bob.  I'll post pics later.
  • Valentine's Day is fast approaching.  I love Valentine's!
  • Got some Valentine goodies together for AG and Ro's MDO teachers.
How cute is this little treat?

How presh are these little girls in their new Valentine's shirts?  Thanks, Na and Pops!
  • Getting baby things down from the attic this afternoon.  I'm excited!
  • Edy spilled blood red Powerade on the carpet in her room.  It is NOT coming up. Suggestions welcome.
  • We are checking out a new park in Bullard today.  Apparently, there are only 10 like it in the nation.  The girls are excited and I'm anxious to see what all the hype is about.
  • I'm all caught up on Downton Abbey.  After being unimpressed with Season 1, I didn't jump on the bandwagon and watch Season 2.  A few weeks ago when Season 3 started, I DVR'd the episodes, checked out Season 2 from the library, loved it, and caught up on Season 3.  I'm all in and then some!!! #freebates #dowagercountess #sadaboutsybil
  • I thought we had an interesting week, but after reading over this post, I find it rather boring--quite weak.  (That reminds me...To all the Downton fans out there, do you catch yourself trying to talk super proper after each episode?  G calls me out all the time! #southerngirlprobs)
Updates on the pregnancy, Edy's blue blanket situation, and baby room progress coming soon!

That's Your Christmas Card?

It's that time of year...the most wonderful time of the year!  One of my favorite things about the season is sending and receiving Christmas cards.  Although I don't like to spend too much money on my cards, I do try to do the best I can with the money I've allotted.

A few days ago, my mom sent me an email of Christmas cards gone wrong.  Oh, so wrong!
poor kids.

I don't know if I'm laughing harder at he fact that all of these people have their eyes closed or if those sweaters are what's cracking me up.

no. comment.

They really had this one planned out.
poor dog.

Again, no. comment.
I bet that momma is so proud of her sewing abilities!

My heart breaks for these kids.

Oh, what fun it is to...make fun of Christmas cards!  Here's to hoping my kids appreciate my Christmas card taste for years to come.

We Went to the Zoo

Yesterday we went to the zoo thanks to our year long passes courtesy of Aunt Ann and Aunt Dorothy!  Thanks again, y'all.  What a wonderful gift.

Edy has NO fear around the animals--none.

Bevo?  Is that you?

refusal to smile

We loved the penguin exhibit because we came during feeding time!
Aww....poor Jack.  He's going through his catastrophic molt.  He should be back to his old/new self in a few weeks.
We all got a big kick out of the ostrich on the other side of the glass.  All he heard was "feeding time"!

I'm standing in an elephant's footprint...
We all got in the footprint...
Edy sat down in the elephant footprint.

In the video:  The mountain lion seemed very interested in Edy.  We think he saw her as "lunch".  Pardon my VERY southern draw...seriously.
