Farewell

Today we bid a fond farewell to Brady's infant seat.
I'm feeling surprisingly sentimental about it.
I remember trying to place our tiny newborn
in this seemingly enormous car seat, and thinking,
how the heck is he supposed to fit in here without getting lost?

Fast forward 1 year and 3 weeks...
We'll miss you good friend.

Introducing Brady's big boy car seat.
I think he likes it.

In case you were wondering, it also passed the taste test.

Faces of Brady

Brady was being especially silly the other night during dinner.
The evidence...

Pretending to be bashful.

He has been doing this a lot lately.
Cracks us up every time.
And, check out those teeth.

Happy.

Mr. Serious.

Having a little laugh.

Water Play

Brady loves water.
Even as a newborn he was calm during bath time.
The only time he has not enjoyed his bath was during our visit to the lake house.
He screamed as though I was bathing him with acid.
So not fun.
Anyway...here are a few pics from a recent bath for your enjoyment.

Water play requires a great deal of concentration.

Look Daddy, I got my finger on it.

Really???  Again with the camera.  When will it end?

Going in for a lick.

Mohawk.

Happy 1st Birthday, Brady!

We simply can't believe our itty bitty brand new baby boy
is a walking, babbling toddler.
We double checked the calendar.  It's true.  He's 1!
It's a good thing we have a gazillion pictures to help us remember it all.

We bought Brady a big boy chair for his birthday.
Our hope was that he would enjoy relaxing in it.
Ha!
Apparently, it's perfect for climbing.

He loves to explore.
One of his favorite ways to learn about his environment is by licking.
Just before I snapped this picture he was licking the outlet safety covers???

He does a pretty good of feeding himself,
with an occasional miss.

Brady's current favorite toys are his nesting/stacking cups.
He has learned how to nest them inside one another by himself.
He is now learning how to stack them.

Brady's favorite playmate is Daddy.
He gets so excited when Daddy comes in the door.
I love these matching blue eyed boys.

Somebody has started to clown for the camera.

The rest of this will probably be boring.  It's more for me since I can't remember anything.
  • Brady weighs 21 lbs 4 oz and is 30 inches long.  He is in the 25th% for weight and 50th% for height.
  • He wears size 18 months shirts and 12 months shorts- with room to grow in both.  He wears size 3 shoe, but is almost ready for 4.
  • He has 5 teeth, all of which arrived in the past 2 weeks.  #6 is ready to poke through at any time.
  • He hasn't been sleeping all that well thanks to the teething.  Prior to that, he went to bed around 8 and slept until 7 with an occasional peep.  He takes 2 naps, about 1 1/2 hours each.  He goes to sleep easily.  We start with a snuggle on my shoulder for about 2.4 seconds.  Then into the crib he goes with a binky and a burp cloth without a fuss.  I'm so grateful for this.  It totally makes up for the many months of naps that only lasted for 30 minutes.
  • Brady is a picky eater.  Transitioning from baby food has been a challenge, but we're making progress.  His favorite foods are yogurt, mashed potatoes, pasta and chicken.  He gave up formula for milk without a fight.  He does a good job with a sippy or a cup with a straw, so we'll be giving up the bottle soon.  It's going to be harder for Mommy than Brady.  Bottle time = guaranteed cuddle time.  That's hard to come by with a boy who is constantly on the move.
  • While our boy babbles non stop, he isn't talking...yet.  We hear the occasional Mama and Dada, but that's about it.
  • Brady started a Gymboree play class this week.  He walked right in and started exploring.  He wasn't the least bit concerned with how near or far I was.  He seems to be outgoing and adapts well in different social settings.  He is a flirt with the ladies and loves attention from anyone.
  • It doesn't take much to get Brady to smile or laugh as he is generally a happy little guy.  For a guaranteed giggle we tickle his upper thigh/hip area.  He loves playing peek-a-boo and has recently started to react with giggles when we "chase" him.
  • And finally, Brady has given up his trademark clap (one palm, one fist) for a traditional clap.

We've had such an amazing year with our firstborn.
It's been so much fun watching him learn and grow and see his personality blossom.
We can't wait to see what this year has in store for us.
