Earth Day - God's Recycling

One of the precious things my father has taught me is a love for nature.  The small wonders that capture my eye and fascinate my soul, lead me to praise my creator.  To me, the greatest lessons come from nature.
Though these pictures do not capture the beauty and color of nature, there is a deep sense of the quality of nature caught in these pictures.  Most would see this "mess" along side the road and either ignore it or see it as litter.  In fact, it is called litter.  However, the beauty of this is in God's creativity.
These pictures capture the wonder of God's system of recycling.  God does not let things go to wasted.  Even litter is re purposed for something greater.  In it's decayed state, it provides nutrients for other plants that continue to grow.  Death brings life.
It is a beautiful picture of God's redemption story.  Death of His Son brings us life...He does not waste tragedy and trials.  He uses them in magnificently creative ways to provide new life in our lives!

I talked about the joy of watching Jack explore and play.  My other great joy is my beautiful daughter.  I lover her smile...it brightens my day.  I am facinated by how much she observes everything around her.  Her beauty amazes me!  I Love this little girl!

Love was shared
Memories were made
Life is short and I do not know how much longer I will have them around...

Trip Part Two - The Adventures of a Boy

After church on Sunday, it was so sunny out, we had to go outside.  Behind Mom and Dad's house, up on a hill, is a small creek and pond.  It was a family adventure to go exploring there when we were growing up.

Jack has such an exploration spirit and I love watching him discover the world around him.  I choose to let him take chances and get dirty, knowing that the lessons he is learning are far more valuable than some dirty pants.  My sister did an awesome job of capturing his exploration.

These moments are precious memories that will remain with me forever....

Trip Part One - The Maple Festival

Every family has a place that is deeply rooted in their family traditions.  The Marathon Maple Festival is ours.  The Maple Festival is a tradition in my small home town and though it isn't a huge, high class event, it is special to all of us who grew up there.  We always kick off the morning early with the all you can eat pancake breakfast with REAL maple syrup.

I usually try to head over to the library afterwards to hit their book sale early.  Dad usually likes to watch the pancake eating contest and Jack had a blast at the discovery center while Nana enjoyed Emma.

We also have to check out the high school and it always brings back memories.  The art class students always paint a ceiling tile, so the ceiling is an amazing quilt of history.  The tile with the little girl was painted by my sister and right next to it is the hands picture painted by my brother.

We take time wantdering around the town, sampling all the delicious food (besides the pancake breakfast there's maple cotton candy, maple cream, maple sundeas, maple lollipops, maple bbq beef and many non-maple treats like apple dumplings, fried dough, toasted nuts, and spedies), checking out the craft booths, and enjoying all the sights.  This is a one room school house that is open for tours during the Festival.  Our family donated a clock that hangs in it so we always have to visit.

It is not a show stopping event but to me it is a special famly tradition that I hope to pass along to my children and enjoy with my family for years to come.  Plus, you can never get enough real maple syrup!

Travel

My dirty clothes are piled high and I have many suitcases to unpack.
I have two exhausted kids who need their own beds and one exhausted mommy who agrees.
I have a house to get back in order (though my husband truly tried to clean up before I got home).
I anticipate it taking at least a week if not more to get back into a routine again.
Is it worth it?

YES!

Because I also have a ton of memories made, stories to share, and pictures to look through.
I have in my memory many precious moments between my children and my family.
I captured inifinite moments in time captured through my camera lens that will be preserved for the future.
I would not trade this time for all the clean laundry, sleep, or organized houses in the world.

And I promise there will be pics coming...

My Hero

She wasn't always a wife or mom...
But they are roles she has taken on and shined.

She is loved by her husband...
and truly is his help mate...

She has raised 3 children
and has not only been my mom but become one of my best friends.

Her example as a mom
prepared me to be one
but as a Grandmother, she also has a great impact on the future.

Mom spends endless hours behind the scenes serving and supporting her husband's ministry.  She is truly a role model for a ministry wife.  Her humility and servant's heart challanges me daily.  I pray that I will be half the wife and mother that she has and continues to be.

Beautiful Weekend

It was such a beautiful weekend in so many ways...

Not only being able to enjoy the sunshine and allow the kids to play outside...

Not only the joy of family and friends....

But the celebration of the joy of the resurrection!

A Good Friday

It was an amazing Friday, a great Friday, a blessed Friday...on Good Friday.

We did not do the traditional Good Friday Service, we served.  We didn't sing a bunch of hymns, we worshiped through relationships.  This is not to say that services and hymns are bad.  But, God brought about an incredible Friday....

I really try to take the kids to story time most Friday mornings to meet up with my friend Stacy and her daughter Anna.  We met at story time and have become great friends.  Usually we grab lunch together and then I rush off to teach class.  We weren't having class today, so on a whim, I invited them over for lunch.  It was sort of a grab what we have type of lunch but we all enjoyed it and then took the kids out to play.  They ended up staying most of the afternoon.

I know Stacy is Catholic and prayed that maybe God would open the door for some good conversation.  I was able to have a great talk about the differences in our beliefs and discuss the true meaning of Easter.  It was awesome!  I love sharing the story of God's love for us and it is amazing when the opportunity opens up to have such great converstations about it.

Later on a college student friend of ours came to hang out and chat with Kevin.  He had a great time encouraging him and I had fun giving some input on girl stuff from a female perspective.  It is awesome to see college students that love God and want to seek his will.

While Kevin was chatting and Jack had fallen asleep, I slipped over to my good friend and neighbor, Kandis.  I had some Easter treats for Her, Matt, and Theigen.  It has been so exciting to see how God is working in their family and how we have begun to see God answer prayer about different situations they have been facing!  God is soooo good!

People are who Jesus came to save and what a blessing it is to see God working in people's lives...that makes it a Good Friday!

The Easter Season

To be honest, I tend to struggle with Easter.  I know this is a shockingly unchristian statement, but I do.  I feel like sometimes I have to work up my emotions for one day to "feel" the powerful thougths about this holiday season.  There are the quotes, the songs, the programs, and the symbols but sometimes to me, honestly, it feels like rhetoric.  I guess I wish it would feel more natural and not so forced and program.  Probably because we try to cram these thoughts and feeling into one little weekend filled with services when the events are so monumentous as to fill our lives.  My finite mind cannot even grasp all it contains even if I watch The Passion five million times and read a million books and quotes.  I feel like I have to wade through the hype to get to the reality and trying to make this be something beyond a holiday season.
