April 6, 2011...Seth Schick...dear friend that took good care of all the sister missionaries while we were serving in Sri Lanka passed away

Seth Harvey Schick 1936 ~ 2011
Seth Harvey Schick, age 74, passed away April 6, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on June 8, 1936 in Kaysville, Utah to George and Ruth Schick. Seth graduated from Utah State with his Master's Degree in Agricultural Economics (Land Resource Management). He owned and operated Schick International for 41 years. He married the love of his life, Karren Hodgson, on September 2, 1960 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and they enjoyed 50 years of marriage. Together they have four children: Jeff, Scott, Daranee and Alison. Seth was a proud veteran of the Air Force and was part of the Strategic Air Command during the Korean War. He enjoyed working in developing countries (26 in all), helping those in need. He could always tell a good story about one of the countries he worked in with all of the many friends he made wherever he stopped for more than a few minutes. Discussing world politics and farming was a favorite pastime. He loved to work with horses and on his family farm in Kaysville. People throughout the world and Utah know of the many things that Seth was involved with - from helping friends and family members in need, to all the projects that he worked on: Plymouth, Utah north to Bluff and St George south. His Utah work included developing test vineyards in southern Utah, flood control systems, irrigation reservoirs for farmers, water supplies and drainage for small cities and towns. Besides his work, he was most proud of his family and their accomplishments. He traveled extensively to be with them during their activities. If they happened to be in New Zealand, it gave him an excuse to see yet another country. He is survived by his wife, Karren; his children: Jeff (KayLynn) of Elwood, UT; Scott (Kjerstin) of Hyde Park, UT; Daranee of Nampa, Idaho, and Alison of Shiprock, New Mexico, and nine grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother and sisters: Alice (Bill) Reitz, Ruth (Dix) Cloward, Susie Zobell, Dorothy Obray, George Schick, and Mary (Bill) Evans. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Sterling and one sister Kay Moore. The family would like to express a special thanks to all the special people at the Huntsman Cancer Institute who gave us more years to enjoy with him than we would have had otherwise. We also want to thank the special people of Applegate Hospice Care. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Seth's life will be on Sunday, April 10, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Walker Mortuary in Morgan, UT, and Monday, April 11, from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the Enterprise LDS Church. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at the Kaysville Cemetery.

Taiko passed away on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011...he is missed...

Taiko was our minature maltese and Sassy is our Shitzu...They loved to go for rides with us...They have traveled everywhere...They lived in Japan for two years with us...We have had both dogs for eight years...
Taiko loved resting in his pen and behind the love seat...he enjoyed basking in the sun on the rocks in the backyard...Taiko loved to go into the arroyo...he could get out our back fence...he would prance on the other side of the fence to irratate Sassy...we had a snow day and frigid cold weather...he went out and we didn't see him for awhile...he came in through the doggie door and sat by me while I was working on the computer...very out of the norm for him...I looked down and saw blood everywhere...Amanda ran for a blanket and I picked him up and handed him to Steve...Steve took him to the pickup and we went to the vet...while we were examining him...we found claw marks on his back and under his rib cage...we figured a hawk picked him up while in the arroyo and Taiko turned and bit the hawks leg and he was then dropped...Taiko had severe head injuries, broken jaw, broken leg and a puctured lung...He was hurt so bad, that we had to put him to sleep...it was so hard...we have had him for 8 years...we found that he had come up our road from the arroyo to our back yard, through the fence, along the sidewalk and into the house...it broke my heart when we had to put him down...I stayed with him as they gave him the medicine...it was so sad... Sassy is so missing him and not wanting to be by herself...so we take her with us...she beats us to the front door, wags her tail and waits...she got the front door open and looks through the glass door waiting for us to get home...

Steve's new Freedom 1-27-11

Steve went into his dr. appt. with his walker...he was so hoping to get rid of it today...Steve will still keep in around while he is out an about...but he is now using his cane...
He was so excited...
Steve hasn't been out of the house except to go to Physical Therapy and the Dr. since surgery,
and he hasn't gone grocery shopping since our Thanksgiving dinner shopping...
what a thrilling day it is...
Steve also tied his own shoes for the first time today...
Life is just fabulous and so many prayers have been answered...

Steve's Hip X-Ray...1-27-11

Steve's new hip...it amazes me how far the new hip, shaft goes down into his bone...the shank is made of titanium, the ball is made of ceramic...between the ball and the socket is polyethylene ...the titanium shaft goes into the ball as well...
