Fort Tryon Park and the Cloisters.

We lived quite close to these two amazing spots in NYC, while we lived in Washington Heights and never got a good taste of them. And since it was Ash Wednesday, we thought it would be appropriate to stop by. There's free parking and it was pay as you wish day, so I was quite pleased with my whimsical way that afternoon when we randomly decided to drive by on our way home from an afternoon in Jersey, with Elise and the girls. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! Just felt like I was back in time!

Cloisters from Fort Tryon Park

And, we all giggled while Pais had her hair curled at a kiosk at the mall. I really wanted to buy that $300.00 curling iron that she brought down to $99.00 just for me!

9/11 Memorial- February 24th, 2012

Most of the girl's Mid-Winter Break was spent playing with the lonely toys in their bedroom. Polly Pockets, Barbies, Little People...they all got some much needed attention this past week! School and homework make life so busy, there is hardly even time on the weekends to pull them out! We did go on a couple adventures though, including the 9/11 Memorial. Although cloudy and misty, it was beautiful and peaceful. Well, until Scott was told to take Paisley off of his shoulders by a security guard, but we'll save that story for another special day. ;)
The fountains are incredible. There are two, flowing down into the ground where the Twin Towers once stood.
We read and touched the names as we walked along the edges, noticing the names that read,
and unborn child, next to to their mama's. Bless them.

Love this one, with a Security Guard smiling in the background.

Ella's favorite part was the indoor security check--because it was warm and dry.

We then found the closest Starbucks to enjoy peppermint tea and pumpkin bread (Pais), bagel and water (Ella), and rice krispy treats and hot chocolate! (Scott and I) (Thanks for the gift card Auntie Jen!) As we sat there, I had to laugh at who got what, so not predictable!

Sweet 16 Jersey Style.

We went to our first Sweet 16 Celebration! I think I only watched maybe 2 episodes of that Sweet 16 show that was on MTV for awhile...but I'm pretty sure they were both filmed in Jersey. This party was nothing short of what I remember those filmed ones being.
Oh. My. Gosh. It was like a wedding/Sweet 16/Quincenera-- all in one! Unbelievable! I was kinda embarrassed to take pictures....but imagine a 20 person court, several dress changes, choreographed dances, ice sculpture...
Scott was invited by a co-worker, his daughter's Sweet 16.

(We stopped by the mall on our way. Love this 2 story carousel.)

Before the birthday girl arrived....we waited 2 hours!! The girls danced and thought that THIS was the party...it hadn't even started yet.

Girls got their drinks.

and then Paisley had another....and another! :) She loves drinks!

And she's got the glass holding down as well.... Oy!

mmmhmmm...

Paisley and her Daddy!

The theme was "Masquerade!"
Paisley fell asleep before salads even arrived...Ella right as the main course came...at 11pm!

One thing was for sure, everyone in that ballroom was happy! All 200 of them! It was quite joyful to look around and see everyone smiling and enjoying themselves. It was a very special, tender night for the family and it was nice to share it with them. I was nervous our children would leave with a new expectation for their 16th birthday party...only half of them did! ;) The other half was like, "Um, no way! Embarrassing!"
Guess who said what! Haha!

Girls Rock Band

The first semester of the year, Ella and three of her close friends started a rock band class after school! She was excited that she would be the drummer! There was also a lead singer, pianist and guitarist. :) They wrote their own song, gave themselves a name and practiced the same song...over and over...Ella kinda got tired of the drums, she wanted to try out all the instruments. They all experienced what it would REALLY be like in a band! But, come performance day, they were all so excited! Ella dressed her part with some hot pink highlights and a skeleton shirt, over the shoulder of course...and they rocked out! :)

The song was called, "Summer." I'll try to get the video up sometime! :)

Flash Back! From Early December.

Ella had to make a map. And she loves Origami. So she came up with the idea of an
"Origami Zoo Map!" Clever right? :)

She did a really great job! Look at the Map Key.
And, I kind of love Ella's teacher. She wrote this before we headed to Vegas for Thanksgiving...read the last couple sentences.

Ella made her daddy Punkin' Pie! He always requests more a few days after Thanksgiving...just look through my archives...the proof is there!
And this is proof that my kitchen was a mess that day!

Outside of the city looking in...A view of Riverside Church from the Jersey side!
