Still Alive!!!!!

Ok,
so I know you are wondering were I've been these last six months....I'd like to say something exciting like out of the country...on a medical mission in Africa...or helping Tsunamu victims in Asia...or building homes in South America....but unfortunately, my story is rather lame and quite normal...I've been busy with mother-ing, wife-ing, PTA-ing, Zonder-ing, coach-ing, homework-ing, church-ing and a bunch of other -ings that would bore you to tears!!!!

It hasn't all been mundane though....

We finished summer strong with fun trips to Lagoon, Boondocks, Mulligans, lots of Boating and staying in Park City over Labor Day Weekend and then Fall just consumed me with PTA responsibilities...I am over Health & Safety, so you know that means National Fire Safety Prevention Week, Lock Your Meds Day, Great American Smoke Out Day, Emergency School Kits for Kids and of course, Red Ribbon Week!!! Everything went well, but by the end of it, I was so done with school and being safe that I drove around the neighborhood without my seatbelt for a week!!! Ok, not really...but you know what I mean!!
That took us up to Halloween - wasn't it awesome to be so mild again this year?? The kids did really well in not going overboard on the candy this year. We did the Trunk or Treat thing at the Church, then Brecon and Mckay went around with some neighbors (kids & parents) while I went home to hand out candy. Syd decided to come home with me cause she had enough candy already!! KC was on his way home from refereeing football in Manti. By the time he made it home, we ate dinner with some friends and then went to visit some other friends in neighboring subdivisions.
With Thanksgiving on the horizon, we were excited to get together with family for that and to be out of school and work for a few days. However wonderful that is, there's nothing like a girls trip that recharges the batteries!!! A few girlfriends in my ward and I went to visit our buddy Lisa in Vegas for the weekend. We got tix for the show Mamma Mia (I found them at 50% off) and it was opening weekend of Twilight - a double treat!!!

(Ok, I this point I must confess that I had not read any of the Twilight books and didn't know too much about it and couldn't care less about it...don't cringe all you obsessed fans!!)
However, I was looking forward to being entertained and liked the fact that I wasn't stewing over the idea that the movie won't be as good as the book!
I loved the movie and was quite intriqued by the whole thing! I still have not read the book, BUT plan to do so over Christmas when I can sit down and not worry about any schedule to follow!!
Mamma Mia was amazing!! We were on the front row!!! It was so much fun singing along and chillin' with the girls! For the encore, everyone got up and danced and sang a long - it was so fun, we could've stayed through another showing!! Thanks girls for the memories and the stories....we've definitely started something to be continued.....
And that brings me to Christmas, well all the preparation , that is!! Yes, I did go shopping on Black Friday (and convinced KC to come again - he gets breakfast and a movie once we are done as his reward!!!!) and we did get a few good deals. Still, I wasn't loving it as much this year- way too many crazy shoppers!! and we did do family pics last weekend, but I'd better get a move on or I'm going to be frantic next weekend once the kids are out of school!
So, I'll try to keep up with postings, but be nice if I don't - I'm no super mom yet!!

Here is my video review of the last six months!!

Part 2

OK, I know I've now joined the ranks of 'pathetic blogger', but I was not prepared for how busy life was going to be once the kids got out of school! I don't remember it being this bad last year!! Or should I be saying this good??!! I must've blocked it out of my memory!!!

Anyway, I'll move forward with the few things we've been up to.

Following Sydney's Gymnastic Exhibiton, we took off for a week and headed to Lake Powell with some friends on their houseboat. Wow, what a great time you'd think, but don't forget, that was during the few days of nasty storms that passed through Utah right before Memorial Day. So our first time at Powell was almost our last as we battled the horrendous waves across the channel to the safety of a cove. KC and I took our boat across while all the kids went on the houseboat. Boy, I was so scared! After 10 mins of creeping forward I asked KC, "shouldn't we get our life jackets out from under the seat?" His reply a casual, "sure". A few minutes more and I am feeling quite panicked and ask, "Shouldn't we put on our life jackets?" Yet again a casual, "if you want too!" I did! and I huddled down and said a prayer - hoping this wasn't my last one on earth!!! Abit dramatic, you think, but you weren't there!!!!!

Well thanks to KC's expert driving and experience, we finally made it across and man, did it feel good to step onto the beach! The houseboat made it over shortly after and the kids didn't seem to be as affected as I was by the whole ordeal! KC later admitted that he was scared too but acted casual because he didn't want to frighten me - ah, bless him!!
Well, despite some rain and wind, we did have a great time and managed to get out playing on the water. The kids fished the hours away, collected buckets full of seashells and loved building in the sand. The sun did appear eventually and we were able to sit on the deck and watch the kids go down the slide into the cold water!! We climbed up 'sand hill' (which is harder than it looks) but offered amazing views from the top to admire!

We took a boat ride over to Glen Canyon Dam and up to Indian Canyon which was beautiful, but also had a rough channel to get through (not quite as bad though, but i wouldn't do it again though!)

Overall, we had a good time with good food and good company and made some fun memories. Thank-you KC my sweetie for taking us; It was a good start to our summer.

Would I go again? Yes, but not during the stormy season!! I'd like it to be abit warmer too :)

OK, you knew it was coming....another slideshow!!! But it's the easiest way to show a bunch of pics!!!
The date for this entry is also showing how crappy I am since it's been a few weeks since I started this post!! Oh well, please look past my faults and enjoy the slides :)

a few busy weeks!

PART 1
Wow, we have had a busy few weeks!! I will try to fill you in on the details and photos, starting with KC's grandma passing away. It was a blessing for her and a time to celebrate her legacy. Her funeral was the day before Mother's Day. All of KC's siblings came with their families except for Joey's husband Jerry, and Amanda and her family, who live in Florida.

We went with 3 and came back with 6!!!!

We had some cousins sleep over on the Friday night after the viewing. We traded Brecon for Randy, Taggart, Bridgette and Brison...I think we got the short end of the stick!!! Just kidding!

They came without their bags (spur of the moment thing; you know, when your kids put you on the spot!!), so they wore KC's t-shirts and some shorts from our kids. We had fun!

Mothers Day Photos!

KC & the kids made breakfast; I talked to Emma who had her baby that morning; I talked to my wonderful Mother; KC came home early in the afternoon (no meetings!); had dinner with alot of the family at KC's parents home. A good day!

Brecon's grade had a Civil War Re-enactment activity and they got to dress the part and hear stories of how it was back then, and also participate in the war as soldiers. It was pretty exciting! They ate broth and bread for lunch and got to be outside all day...got to love that, right?

Sydney had her Gymnastics Exhibition Meet!

All of the kids got to show off their routines and
skills they have been practicing in class. The theme
this year was, GO WILD! and they each got a goodie
bag with a jungle beanie!
Syd had alot of fun. I love coaching her and seeing
her so excited when she makes her tricks!!

She is working hard to be ready to move into level 4!

A video clip of Syd doing her floor routine :)

She is so cute - we love you Syd!xx

Principles of Motherhood

My sister-in-law sent me this in an e-mail...it's quite funny with alot of truth behind it!!
So, in honor of Mothers this month (and all year round, actually!) , I hope this brings a smile to your face - especially on one of those 'special days'......

1. Motherhood ~~ If it was going to be easy, it never would have started with something called labor!
2. Shouting to make your children obey is like using the horn to steer your car, and you get about the same results.
3. To be in your children's memories tomorrow, you have to be in their lives today.
4. The smartest advice on raising children is to enjoy them while they are still on your side.
5. Avenge yourself ~~~ Live long enough to be a problem to your children.
6. The best way to keep kids at home is to make the home a pleasant atmosphere ~~ and to let the air out of the tires.
7. The right temperature in a home is maintained by warm hearts, not by hot heads.
8. Raising a teenager is like nailing Jell-O to a tree.
9. Parents: People who bare infants, bore teenagers, and board newlyweds.
10. The joy of motherhood: What a woman experiences when all the children are finally in bed.
11. Life's golden age is when the kids are too old to need baby-sitters and too young to borrow the family car.
12. Any child can tell you that the sole purpose of a middle name is so he can tell when he's really in trouble.
13. Grandparents are similar to a piece of string ~ handy to have around and easily wrapped around the fingers of grandchildren.
14. A child outgrows your lap, but never outgrows your heart.
15. God gave you two ears and one mouth ... so you should listen twice as much as you talk.
16. There are three ways to get something done: Do it yourself, hire someone to do it, or forbid your children to do it.
17. Adolescence is the age when children try to bring up their parents.
18. You know the only people in this world who are always sure about the proper way to raise children? Those who've never had any.
19. Cleaning your house while your kids are at home is like trying to shovel the driveway during a snowstorm.
20. Oh to be only half as wonderful as my child thought I was when he was small, and half as stupid as my teenager now thinks I am.
21. There are only two things a child will share willingly: communicable diseases and his mother's age.
22. Money isn't everything, but it sure keeps the kids in touch.
23. Adolescence is the age at which children stop asking questions because they know all the answers.
24. An alarm clock is a device for awakening people who don't have small children.
25. Why is it that our children can't read a Bible in school, but they can in prison?
26. How do you cope when the apple of your eye becomes a bone in your throat?
27. No wonder kids are confused today. Half the adults tell them to find themselves; the other half tell them to get lost.
28. The persons hardest to convince they're at the retirement age are children at bedtime.
29. Kids really brighten a household; they never turn off any lights.
30. A mother's work is never done...but do we really want it all to end??
Let's live & love each moment!

For those of you who knew my sister Emma (she is the one who came over last Christmas and stayed forever!!! I loved it);

anyway, Emma & Terry's baby was born yesterday - here are the details.

She was 10 days early - lucky thing!! She went into the hospital at midnight feeling contractions, they kept her and then broke her water right before the birth!!

Mother & baby are doing well. Terry is chuffed, and Ruby and Brad are delighted for a little sister!

She is still in the hospital and promises to send photo's soon. They recently moved into a new home which doesn't have a land line yet or internet hook-ups. She is hoping that once she is settled, she will get re-connected with everyone!

BYU Women's Conference

Yeah,

I got to go to Women's Conference again this year and I am so grateful to all you who made it possible - KC - thanks Babe, you know better than anyone how much I needed to go!! love ya X;

my kids for being patient when Mother wasn't home to help out with things - homework, snacks, soccer, baseball, softball, dinner (Dad did a great job, but he's no mother!!) - I will work on using the knowledge I gained, for your good - love ya all; and then the babysitters who also stepped in to help - Grandpa Scott, and Susie, my awesome next door neighbor - thank-you so much...you both make my life alot easier :)

So, even though it is incredibly packed with Women of all ages and walks of life, and you have to park west of the football stadium, and you are rushing around trying to make it to all the classes you'd like, and some people are just so slow at walking (I think some of them could still be there!!) and you have to wait in line for everything...classes, bathroom, food, books - I would still recommend it to everyone and know you would love it!!!! I love it and feel so uplifted and inspired to keep going forward and doing the best I can.

We were so blessed to have President Monson come and talk to us at the closing session of Conference and be wrapped up in the warmth of the Spirit that was present. It brought me to tears and made me want to do better and be the kind of person I know I can be.

Some other wonderful speakers were Sheri Dew, Julie B. Beck, Cheryl Lant, and Elder Bateman.

They were all inspiring and gave us alot to think about on ways to improve ourselves and to leave the world behind and to 'Come unto Christ' (this years theme).

I also like the counsel & advice given in certain classes that can help with specific needs i.e. kids!!!

Thanks also to Shirlene for the good company. I look forward to Education Week with you again!

Quotes...
"Motherhood is the greatest potential influence in human life" - Sheri Dew
"God wants to give us a gift; Sometimes are hands are 'full' - what are we willing to 'put down' to receive it?" - Kathy Bryson
"We (women), are the Lord's secret weapon!" - Sheri Dew
"Don't just work for your family, work with them" - Stephen D. Nadauld
"Put your strength to what is uniquely yours to do" - Julie B. Beck
"Don't postpone or delay anything that could bring joy or laughter into our lives now" - President Monson
