my big fat nanyang adventure.

we had to do this personality profiling thing for my OB course the other day.. the MBTI thingy.. and anyway here's what they found out abt me..

INTJ
intraversion
intuitive
thinking
judging

to summarise..
Have original minds and great drive for implementing their ideas and acheiving their goals. Quickly see patterns in external events and develop long-range explanatory perspectives. When committed, organize a job and carry it through. Skeptical and independent, have high standards of competence and performance - for themselves and others.

heh heh heh.. it sounds pretty much like me.. heh.. but then again i got pretty low scores for all so basically im pretty much unclear abt what kind of person i am.

so to summarise again..
i am confused. hehe :)

anyway i had some sort of adventure today in ntu.. with crystal. hehe.. we were supposed to make our way from the innovation centre to the nanyang house for the aiesec lc meeting.. so we went to the innovation centre bus stop to take shuttle bus A.. the bus comes along and guess wat? it wasnt for boarding! and it also happened to be the last bus of the day!!! on saturday the service ends at 2!! grr... so we had to walk to nanyang house.. itz damn far ah!! takes abt 25 mins.. and under the hot sun! so we walked walked walked.. i sorta remember the route cos had to walk the same route during the MS foc as well.. then we walked past hall 4.. and crystal suggested taking a short cut through there.. ahhahaha it was damn funny cos we were like walking past the guys dorm area.. hehe.. veh smelly.. they happily hang their boxers and underwear outside! but the short cut wasnt really a short cut.. cos we ended up climbing lotsa stairs not realli knowing where to go.. haha finally found our way out somehow.. and by the time we got to nanyang house.. we were half an hour late! letz hope i make it to the next aiesec meeting on time. =p

itz 1130 pm.. i ought to be doing my accounting tutorial rite now. or read my OB book. or do stats. or financial management. or just study. but i somehow cant get myself to start. *sighz* nvm.. shall postpone tt.. :)

anyway there's something that i gotta get off my chest. i had a talk with one of my classmates on saturday and i just feel i should post something here. the whole malay problem. wait.. let me start with what happened this morning first. i woke up late and since i had lessons this morning, i decided to take a cab to sch. so anyway i got into the cab and the taxi driver (who happens to be malay) asked me where i wanted to go

me: NTU please

td: okay.. u want to go NIE izit?

me: no.. i said NTU

td: really? not NIE?

me: yes.. I am from NTU

td: wahh.. pandai seh.. (translated: wah so clever)

okae. some of u must be wondering like what's my point rite. well.. malays just have a skewed perception. i was quite peeved at the taxi driver's comment. i mean he must think that malays generally do not make it to university.

and to think he is a malay himself. but then again i ponder. to a certain extent i dun blame him. i mean look at the statistics man! in my accounting course currently there are over 700 freshmen. and out of this huge group, there are only at most 10 malays. how pathetic is that? that's barely over 1 percent. and if you're to say that well, there arent that many malays to begin with so that's why there are so few malays in university, well that's just plain bullshit. come on man. itz not even reflective of the population. we form abt 13% of the country's population. yet our population in uni is not even anywhere close to that. take a look at medicine. every year at most 10 malays make it into medicine. out of say.. 200. tt'll be only 5%!!!!!! still pretty far. farah's the only malay taking chem engine in ntu. imagine that.

okae enough of the stats. what i wanna say is that, malays are not doing enough abt their children's education. i've been giving tuition since early this year. and i've encountered quite a variety of situations. i have these two brothers whose mom doesnt cook. nope they dun haf a maid. and nope itz not that they are poor and cant afford food or a maid. the mom's just plain lazy. yup. they have a huge mpv. and she spends her whole day going out shopping and playing badminton among other things. and yet, she cant provide the simplest thing for her kids that is a proper meal. how selfish can u get. sometimes they barely eat a meal a day. and sometimes all they get are biscuits at night. how the hell are you supposed to study without nutrition? u think tuition's gonna solve everything. that's where you're wrong.

ive got another student whose dad has 3 wives. yup 3 wives. imagine that. and his dad doesnt know that he goes for tuition. his mom pays for it. cos if his dad is to find out, both him n his mom will be in big trouble. having 3 wives and cant be bothered abt ur own son's education. bravo. you're really the best dad around.

these are just a few examples. my point is that these parents are not doing enough for their children. itz not enough to just shell out a few bucks and send them to tuition. u've gotta be there for them. uve gotta guide them. if the other races can do it why cant we? why do the chinese succeed? that's cos they are motivated and are not distracted by other silly things in life. thats cos they know whats more important. how is the malay race ever gonna soar when the majority is not bothered by it? im seriously disgusted by you people.

itz not just abt getting into university or college. i mean seriously.. even in poly the proportion is not even that high. where can u find the highest proportion of malays? ITE. yup that's right. im not looking down on the ITE kids.. no im not. but come on man. have more ambition. have more drive. why is it that when it comes to ITE the proportion of malays suddenly becomes larger? im not too sure abt the stats but i have a strong feeling itz definitely more than 13%. hmm. if u wanna argue that thats reflective of the population again i say bullshit. why do malays form such a huge portion of the dropout rates? can someone please explain this to me. why is it that we cant do what others can? why is it that we are so weak and let others control us? and be happy abt it?

i have more things to say abt this issue. but i dun think i should do it right now. wait till i form them in a more cohesive manner. if any of u are offended by reading this.. please do think abt it carefully. i may not have presented what i wanted to say in the best possible manner so some might get offended.. but i just had to get this out. the whole racial thing is getting to me. yupz.. drop me a line people and tell me what u think. peace out.

woohoo pple!! WAZZUPPPP?

heh.. i got back from the AIESEC camp this afternoon.. i gotta say in terms of experience that was one of the best camps i ever went to.. gosh there's really plenty of opportunities for everyone in aiesec and to all of u who are not part of it or who have never heard of it.. well, itz your lost.. hehe.. jin has a wonderful description of aiesec on her blog.. go see it..

anyway one thing that i truly loved abt aiesec was the fact that there were pple of so many nationalities all grouped together.. u really get to learn abt one another's culture, language and etc.. it was quite a pity that the camp was so short.. (relli! like it was practically only a little more than a day..) take my group PHILLIPINES for example~ i think there were onlie 4 singaporeans in the whole group.. me jin crystal and chelsea.. we had a vietnamese girl Duong.. a couple of pple from malaysia.. Huiyi, James, Shin, Ethan.. we had this french-chinese-vietnamese guy Pierre.. haha he cant speak mandarin and his english is pretty bad.. veh heavily accented.. then our ogls.. we had this guy from Finland called Jarmo (ttz pronounced as nyah-mo) and a girl from India called Neha.. haha Neha's actually from my Financial Accounting class.. shez taking Biz Ad as a minor.. it was so cool how we were all from very different backgrounds yet we could come together to work and play as one..

one point to note: AIESECers love to dance!! haha.. seriously.. but their enthusiasm abt it is pretty infectious.. at least thats wat i think cos grace doesnt seem to think so.. heh.. itz like they have so many mass dances but itz not like in jc kind where they teach u then everyone dance together.. itz more like someone just play the music and a group of pple will just start dancing in the middle of the room and everyone will follow them.. haha.. and the music's pretty cool!! they dance to everything from like bhangra to even christina aguilera's fighter.. haha..

anyway i made a cool fren from camp.. she's grace's fren actually.. JIN!! hehe.. really glad to have met you girl.. it was so cool how we could just talk abt everything and anything.. :) *hugs* and she thinks that im wild!! haha.. wth.. that's a first i gotta say.. anyway thanx for your company and of course grace you too!! i think camp was so much more fun thanx to the two of u!! :)

omg i have so many things to say and this post is so super not organized.. haha.. ok letz see.. oh ya AROC nite.. AROC actually means aiesec recruitment and orientation camp.. so for AROC nite they had this miss universe like thing.. with each "country" or rather OG sending in a miss.. haha except that they are guys.. it was fun transforming Pierre into Miss Phillipines "Maria"~ will upload the photos soon.. he has gigantic boobs and a hairy belly button! =p anyway that night was hilarious.. Miss Estonia "Estella" won.. the judges asked him or rather her what was the colour of the Estonian flag.. everyone burst out laughing cos no one was expecting that kinda question.. so he was like *shhh. i know you all think i dont know right. i know okay. there are at least two colours. one of them is not the colour that im wearing right now. and the other is colour that one of you is wearing right now." he did that in a very diva-ish manner and that won him the Miss Aroc crown.. haha that and him pulling other guys into his boobs.. hahaha...

i wanna go for the NLDC at UTM skudai malaysia later this year!! but itz like one week before my finals.. grrr... wasted..

oh yah one more thing abt aiesec is that you get lots of opportunities to travel.. u can go for like conferences in places like taiwan.. malaysia.. india.. canada.. and so much more!! *cos there are 83 member countries* so im sooo excited.. i wanna go everywhere!!

one bad thing abt the camp was that the food SUCKED.. haha i seriously dunno what they did with the 18 bucks we paid.. went to buy the beer perhaps.

hehe.. i got so much more to say but quite brain dead now.. onlie had 3 hrs of sleep last nite.. and 5 the nite before.. so... goodnite peepz~

im proud of myself.. I had 3 tutorials today.. and I felt like I gave my all to all my classes today.. :) like i've said before im gonna give my all to all my modules.. and so far, i think ive been giving abt 80%.. haha need to improve on my voicing out of opinions.. ok.. so ive been voicing them out.. but i think i must think in a more constructive manner such that i give better opinions.. yupz.. now.. on to tackle financial management~

had my lunch at jurong point today.. dear came to canteen B to meet me.. but looking at the food and the crowded canteen.. we just got turned off.. so decided to grab a cab to jurong point and ate at banquet.. yummm~ hehe i love the food there.. yeah.. that's one thing im thankful abt ntu.. itz proximity to jurong point! :)

got an aiesec camp to attend this weekend.. at smu.. wish me luck.. hehe.. anyone also going?

anywayz.. my classmates are all dreading mondays.. haha cos we start off the week with stats tutorial.. and all of them.. not being a maths freak like me.. find it plain torturous to sit through 2 hours ot stats.. haha.. might sound sadistic here.. but hey im a maths freak.. i love stats.. *shoot me pple* and i just love being in stats class cos i actually sound smart and interested while everyone else is dozing off or complaining abt the f***ing teacher.. hahaha... ooopzz.. if anyone in my class reads this im so dead.. heh.. sorry guys.. i just find it funny and amusing that you guys are all complaining when i find stats to be my easiest module thus far.. =)

one thing to cheer abt : i finally got cable! whee~ hello MTV! nickelodean~~~ disney channel.. AXN.. star world!! haha.. the choices are endless! ok fine yes im slow.. haha my dad refused to buy it a long time ago when everyone was busy snapping up cable cos he thot it was a waste of money.. he still thinks it's a waste of money.. and the only reason that we have cable now is cos its free!!! haha typical la my dad.. yup for 6 mths itz free.. something to do with my uncle's cable plan.. *shrugs*.. who cares? im not complaining! hahaha.. woohooooo~

|

Saturday, August 14, 2004

wahhh.. financial management is a killer subject!!! i sat through both this week's and last week's seminar and what did i get out of both? nothing.. i dun understand anything.. everything's so confusing (okla not everything) and complicated.. i mean seriously.. the whole notes is like EBITDA, COGS, DPS, EPS, CA, CL, FA, NCF, OCF, EVA, MVA, NOPAT, NOWC... like wat the hell? we're gonna have a closed book exam.. how the hell am i supposed to memorise all this? this is not even the concepts yet.. arghhh... bloody financial management.. and they call it the fundamentals somemore.. no wonder accountancy is a profession..
and then the tutorials are like.. ok so how do u answer them? i spent abt 3 hrs jus reading 2 chapters and another 2 hours trying to do the tutorials but still got half blank.. (okla i was watching tv and doing other stuff too)
oh.. and there's also OB.. organizational behaviour.. it takes abt 2 hrs to get through a chapter in the textbook.. that is if u dun fall asleep.. and then u still dun understand half of it! hahaha.. i dunno how im gonna survive this sem.. i think i might even go crazy.. hahahahahahha..

im lucky i haf my stats and accounting..

my 2 years with fad..

yesterday me n fad celebrated our 2 yrs anniversary.. time sure passes by very fast..:) we had a truly wonderful day.. had our lunch at the rice table at suntec.. it was splendid.. the same experience with anyone else wouldnt have been the same.. doing the simplest things with anyone else wouldnt be the same.. we share this bond that some might find weird to understand.. thank you dear for having tolerated me all this while.. all my weird antics when im with you.. my *three thirtyyy*.. my biting.. haaha yes i bite.. my *not being able to stand still when im with him*.. somehow when im with him i can be a child again.. i can act as a 2 or 3 or 5 year old and it'd be okae.. he totally understands me.. he can read me like a book.. and im still amazed and surprised sometimes.. he noes what im going to do next and he can almost alwayz predict wat im gonna say.. tho there are times when i do surprise him of course.. hehe.. ur commitment has truly amazed me dear.. and im never gonna stop loving you ever..

anyway watched THE village after that.. it sucked. the kind of movie which doesnt leave u satisfied. dun bother watching it. yeahz.. then we headed over to esplanade to eat the fondue at haagen daaz.. itz sooo heavenly!! imagine chunks of fruits and frozen cubes of ice cream dipped into a bowl of melted chocolate over a tea light.. yummmm.. and they give u mini skewers to poke ur fruit/ice cream into the chocs.. oooh and also a small tray of nuts for u to roll ur fruit/ice cream in after dipping it into the choc.. hehe.. truly heavenly.. wonderful for couples.. go try it. itz worth it.. :)

into the flow of things

yes... school has finally started in full force this week.. i had a stats tutorial in an IT lab on monday plus an OB tutorial in a communication lab this morning to a normal tutorial for accounting after that.. ive got a mixture of tutorial classmates cos it seems that I dun exactly have the same classmates for all my classes.. like for stats, I sat next to this blur guy who has never attended any of the lectures, does not noe abt any textbooks and doesnt noe abt wat to do for the tutorial.. AND the tutor kept targeting him.. poor soul.. haha yeah but he wasnt in any of my other classes.. and in OB, there was this guy with super good interpersonal skills!!! like i entered the class a lil late.. (as in everyone else was alredi there but the class hasnt started yet) and i was feeling veh lost.. and he just gestured to this empty seat and he was like *come sit here* and just started introducing himself!! very professional!! haha.. confirm become good manager.. yeahz.. den anyway there was accounting.. im in this group with a guy who can definitely pass off as a durian seller.. haha.. not just in terms of looks but also in the way he talks.. a colourful character.. all his sentences end with *mah*.. think of phua chu kang times two or three.. haha..

anyway went out with a couple of the girls today to celebrate aisyah's birthday!! HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY AISYAH!!! me and farah met up after our classes ended.. and went to meet yani, shah aziz and aisyah at orchard after that.. adila mock joined us soon after.. ate at breeks at taka.. do u realise tt all their portions are super size or something? sooooo filling!!! me n yani decided to share their breaded prawns and mashed potatoes.. the mashes potatoes are soooo worth it la for onlie 3 bucks u get a HUGEEEEEE bowl.. hehe.. can share with like 5 pple.. i had fish and chips and omg when the plate came i was juz like *wooohoooo...* ended up not finishing it.. haha.. but it was soooo worth the money la.. :) anyway cancelled tuition and now im at home... i have 160 pages of "Financial Accounting" to read.. bah.. good nite..

over and out.
