Aurora Colorado and Beyond....

Oh My Goodness! It's been 3 weeks + since we've landed in Aurora, Colorado. We are blasting you with a bunch of pictures that should actually be 3 different posts. Sorry you'll have to wade through. It was quite a trip from Boise to here. We took it in 2 days which was smart because, of course, we had to take the more scenic route and the second day we drove over 2 different high passes, one at 9,000 and the second 14, 000 in blinding snow storms. But, oh what gorgeous country we saw. And here is a bit more that we have explored since we've been here. This one is the Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Richard is overlooking the valley on the way up...
Here I am in the back of the Trading post which is on the lower road from the Theatre.
Absolutely Amazing! After a breathless trek up to the top, this is looking down the seating area to the performance stage. If you look at the very top of the photo a little to the left, you can see the buildings of downtown Denver. Some interesting notes about Red Rocks...*Nestled in the Rocky Mountain Foothills fifteen miles west of Denver, there stands a symbol of nature's unparalleled majesty. Red Rocks is a geologically formed, open-air Amphitheatre that is not duplicated anywhere in the world. With Mother Nature as the architect, the design of the Amphitheatre consists of two, three hundred-foot monoliths (Ship Rock and Creation Rock) that provide acoustic perfection for any performance. The area of Red Rocks, originally known as the Garden of Angels, has attracted the attention of musical performers since before the turn of the century. The majestic setting of the Amphitheatre, along with the panoramic view of Denver, makes for a breathtaking scene.
This is Creation rock...to my left as I'm looking down at the stage. More notes...*Gradual earth movement slowly raised the great sandstone ledges from the prehistoric ocean floor, to form the "walls" of the Amphitheatre. Within these walls is contained a record book of the ages.
Nearby dinosaur tracks tell of the Jurassic period of 160 million years ago. Fossil fragments of the giant 40-foot sea serpent, Plerisosaur, the marine reptile Mossaur, and flying reptiles captivate students and geologists alike.*
I turn to the right and Yeppers...looks like a ship pulled up to dock!!! More notes *Some of the rock formations in Red Rocks slope as much as 90 degrees, while others tilt backwards. The southern monolith, that bears resemblance to a ship, is named "Ship Rock." On the opposite side of the Amphitheatre stands "Creation Rock." Both of the monoliths are taller than Niagara Falls, and the Red Rocks Amphitheatre was once listed as among the Seven Wonders of the World.

Lower section of "Creation Rock" You just can't get it all in one photo!
Richard standing "on stage" with the natural red rock back drop. More notes *Denver architect Burnham Hoyt designed the Amphitheatre with an emphasis on preserving the natural beauty of the area. The plans were completed in 1936, and the Amphitheatre was dedicated on June 15, 1941, though the actual construction spanned over 12 years. In 1947, the first annual Easter Sunrise Service took place. Since then, Red Rocks Amphitheatre has attracted the best performers to its stage
What the performers see when on stage...
From here we went to Boulder, CO (Sunday, May 25) to the Boulder Creek Festival which was loads of fun and reminded us both of the Boise River Festival. It was huge and we spent most of the day there. Unfortunately, we left the camera in the car so you are spared the many pictures of those festivities. Boulder is a great little college town and we plan on going back to tour the Celestial Seasonings Tea Plant and Rockies Brewing Co. the oldest Microbrewery in Colorado.
Here's Richard at "home" having morning coffee on the balcony on a gorgeous day. Our house/pet sit is for 5 weeks while Linda went to New York, London and Germany.
Meet Katie...it took "Momma's Girl" a few days to warm up to us
One of her favorite places to lay...a true girl.
Here she is again playing with my packaging paper.
And here we have Allie...she took to us straight away and her we are playing with her as she reaches out for even more toys!
She looks so much like our Sushi cat. Beautiful markings and sweet personality.
Completely laid back while we piled toys all over her to take her picture!
Two weeks ago we headed 60 miles south to Colorado Springs to the Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak where the big Colorado Gold Rush took place.
Richard at the start of the trail through the red rock garden...
A natural rock frame for Pikes Peak
That would be me framed from the other side
This formation is called "Kissing Camels" See them at the top?
more beauty...
Here are the "Kissing Camels" from the other side
Can't get enough of these red rocks!
Me standing in front of the sign that says "Don't go beyond this point"!

Pikes Peak...It was while viewing this peak that Katharine Lee Bates wrote "America, the Beautiful" It's a 19 mile drive to the top and takes 2 hours round trip. We will have to wait until July before we can drive all the way up. They also have a train that will take you up.
Richard climbing on the rocks with a gorgeous backdrop!
Here he is in the back of the "Siamese Twins"
The Majestic "Siamese Twins" with that great natural picture frame in the lower section.
Big slabs of red rock
This is how they look from the side
Hey, these dudes are smooching too! No recognition for them.
Wow
Check out the tree growing out of the top of this rock! Such determination.
Here is the largest part of the "Garden" from the top! What a great day we had here. Then we went down into "Old Towne" Colorado Springs. We have 2 more weeks here and then it's over to downtown Denver for 2 and half months. We are saving the museums and such for when we are there. Well, that's just a taste of what we have been up to. Most of our time has been spent on our businesses. Richard is working on his cane and walking stick business "WoodStock N Sticks" and has several shows lined up that he will be in. We did have a great day at the Denver Merchandise Mart. Just put in a line of Eco Friendly products from Wheatware.

More later...I'm off to San Jose on June 3rd to pet sit for Sandi and Tom for 9 days.
Hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!
