9 mois et... ma la de

We have had some beautiful weather lately. Isaac has been playing outside on the porch and he loves it. The important news is, Isaac is nine months old today! Wow! It seems like a really big milestone. Like a doubling of how old you are at birth - well, that only happens once in your lifetime.
Unfortunately, we have been sick since last Wednesday, so we didn't party it up too much today...

Isaac stayed home from daycare Wednesday through today. Tomorrow we will test it out and see if he can be okay - not be too clingy or sick. Evidently all the babies have colds right now though. Dangit. Mama is not much better. She's just starting to get the cold...
Isaac had fun with Papa on Wednesday, playing with his hat.
On Thursday, Bumpa came down and Isaac and Bumpa had a great time together. They didn't get into too much trouble, but that's just because they didn't get caught.
On Friday, Nana came down and Isaac was very happy to see her too! So was Mama, since she started feeling sick in the afternoon.

Then on Saturday, we took a leisurely stroll to urgent care for Mama. Well, since it was only 11 blocks away we figured that was fine. It was so nice anyway. Mama got antibiotics.
Papa took good care of Isaac and Mama over the weekend, when all they wanted to do was lay around and whine. He tried to keep everyone in good spirits. He lost his cell phone at church but Isaac's great, great aunt (no, really his great-great-aunt) came to the rescue.
We had wanted to go to the zoo, but maybe we can remand that trip until Mama's birthday. It's coming up soon! If it's nice that day... it always seems like March 7th is a day of strange, strange weather.
Today, Nana came down again to take care of Isaac again. He was doing okay but still had a lot of snot. We are so glad she came down! Not only did she make a delicious dinner, she brought some very tasty key lime pie, which she made from real key limes. Key limes are evidently about the size of walnuts, so you can imagine how much work it was to get 1/2 cup of key lime juice...
Isaac opted to receive his slice via his favorite food. We tried to have him try broccoli but he started gagging. I'm not really sure how this whole "table foods" thing is going to work for him since still he doesn't like anything besides fruit purees. I guess I need to start trying harder to feed him some solid food at home. Or maybe I'll hold off another week until his nine month check up to ask the doctor for some tips.

You can see above Isaac trying to grab his favorite cartoon. He grabbed the computer screen and tried to look behind it for Bouba today. And, here below is a cute video of Isaac and his cousin Louisa from our visit to Seattle! Pretty soon they'll probably be partners in crime...

Maybe I was going to say something else, but you know how the congested mind thinks... Hope everyone else is healthy! Happy nine months birthday Isaac!

word up

Ready for a picture overload? You bet you are.

It really has been a little while since I posted last. Papa brought home a big bunch of balloons last week! Aren't they fabulous? They just put you in the mood for a... party!

We were in such a party mood that we drove all the way to Seattle over the weekend to visit our good friend, Louisa, who was throwing a big party because she was turning one. Like our previous experience, we found this one-year-old birthday party to be a very good time. Lots of good food, cake, drink for those who can drink, balloons, and of course, family.
There's the birthday girl with her Mama and Daddy in this picture.
And here are the two cousins playing with each other - or, kind of parallel playing. Well, Louisa is obviously at a more interactive stage than Isaac, but they chased each other a little bit. I'm sure the next time they see each other they will be more interactive. I actually have several other videos, so I'll try to post some when I have a chance.
Here are three generations of handsome men.
And here is Isaac with one of his new friends! They hugged each other at the end when she had to leave.

Isaac was not, however, done making friends before leaving Seattle. We think he said his first word - "uh-ga" meaning "a cat" and later expanded to mean "a four-legged animal with fur". I got a video so you can try to make the call. I had been holding off on the "first word" declaration because there was just an isolated report from daycare, but it seems like since this weekend, he is getting so that there is a more definite correspondance between the sound and object. For example, he now says "mamama" or "mamamba" when he crawls over to me and hugs my leg, asking to be picked up. So there you go, Isaac. Your first word. A cat.

He also smiled a lot at Michele.

Then told everyone "peace out" while we visited the locks and fish ladders. Those were really interesting. I don't think I've seen those before. Although, now that I've said that, someone will probably remind me that I, in fact, have.

A boat getting ready to be lifted up in the lock.

The "proud father"

Pretty!

At the Golden Gardens, a beach. Isn't Seattle area pretty?

We took a break from walking and sat on a rocky beach.
Finally, before leaving, we stopped by to say hello to one more couple of friends!

That was a great trip to Seattle! It was so nice to see everyone, and to finally get out of Eugene for awhile. We might go on another trip next weekend, but not so far away. We will see.

names

Isaac is a man of many names. You could call him...
bathwater tester...

refrigerator inspector...

skirt chaser...

but the video we have of him taking steps is just a little bit too big to upload. I know, you probably don't believe me. It is evidently 100 MB. And I have no idea how to edit it to make it smaller but still uploadable. Gr! Technology!

step step step

Guess what? Yep, Isaac took his first steps last night. I was pretty proud and so happy that I was the first person to witness it (I was going to be sad if that happened in daycare). He took two steps from standing on his own, then stopped and stayed standing for a few seconds. Then, he took three or four steps over to the door and stopped by holding onto the door! He didn't repeat the feat for Papa since he was really tired when he got home, but I think he will in the next few days. And then, I can get a video. For now, you get another bath video with Isaac's latest bathtime development. It just cracks me up.

At daycare, they said Isaac said "byebye" and waved "bye bye" to Joaquin the other day when he left, but since I haven't seen it since then and I know Isaac has been babbling a ton lately: babababababa and gagagagaga etc, I'm going to chalk it up to a lucky coincidence. He does grab on to my leg and say "mamamba" sometimes, but again, I'm not sure this is consistent enough yet to make a call on the first word. Not sure that will come for awhile. After all, he's only almost 8.5 months...
