Chalk & Cheese

Over 15 years of marriage, I discovered that we are as different as chalk and cheese.
Philip loves gadgets & reading manuals. To me these are the ultimate bore.

He also loves sports. He jogs daily, swims about twice a week and plays badminton every Sunday. I am not the sporty type . I prefer to read but under his constant nagging , I indulge him by playing badminton.

I am the kind who likes variety. I get bored easily with the same stuff . I try to eat at different places and would try different dishes (However, I am not into exotic weird food!!!) If I don’t push it, he will always eat chicken chop at the same place.

Before we got married, his wardrobe was just full of stripe shirts. He always bought almost the same kind of shirts. After we tied the knot, I totally revamped his wardrobe. He gets a bit apprehensive when I buy clothes for him. His first line is always “ Are you sure I can wear this? Won’t people laugh at me?”

He’s also an early riser whereas I like to lie in. He says “How come you are soo lazy?” Our taste in music also differs. Some of the classical pieces he listens to just puts me to sleep. He says I have no culture. He loves long drives and long flights. I dread them. I want to reach my destination REAL FAST!!!

They say “opposite attracts”. It’s true to some degree. Our differences have added colour to our lives and taught us how to bear the fruit of the Spirit. Thankfully when it comes to moral & spiritual values, we think alike. In raising our kids, we also share the same standards & this means it’s near impossible for them to manipulate either one of us at their whims & fancies.

These 2 are another example of chalk & cheese. Whaddaya expect with both of us as parents?

Lord Your Face is All I Seek

Lord, Your face is all I seek.
Lord You are all I need.
I open my eyes,
and I see Your faithfulness
Your mercy is new today.
O I love You Lord,
Lover of my soul.
How I love You Lord,
Shepherd of my soul.
I raise my voice in worship,
To You and You alone.

Our prayer group had a great time yesterday studying Philippians 3. We were very impressed by apostle Paul’s zealous pursuit of Christ, as recorded in his famous quote: “I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead”.

This is really following hard after Christ. To read about great man like Paul running hard after Christ is one thing and to run the race of life ourselves is a totally different thing altogether. Which is more rewarding? To win an Olympic gold ourselves or watching Usain Bolt on TV? I hope all of us will be more determined in finding our running shoes, embarking on an intense training programme to build our muscles up, coupled with whole-hearted self discipline to pursue the goal i.e to know Christ, experiencing His power and becoming more and more like Him each day. I can assure you, the reward is far greater than your wildest imagination. Imagine as a father when you play with your 3 year-old. You let him chase after you. What will you do? Will you run miles away deserting the child? Of course not ! I am very sure that you just can’t wait to embrace the child you love, hug him and never let him go. That’s the way our heavenly Father loves us ! We might think that we are running after Him, but the amazing fact is that He is always there embracing us with His everlasting love !
