Day 244 Friday 31st August:

Well we've reached the last day of August and I think the children are back at school next week.

Oliver woke us up with his singing at the "late" time of 7am. He has been on the go for most of the day apart from when Grandad took him out in the car and brought him back fast asleep.
He went to Ingol to mum and dads house then on to Tarleton to replace a floor board in Ambers bedroom and od course Oliver helped him. The house is now ready for Jayne and Leo to move in tomorrow. They've picked up the van and are busy loading it tonight.  I might pop across next to see how they are getting on.
I baked a couple of plum crumbles today 1 for them and 1 for Roland. but still have a lot of plums left. I think I'll have to freeze them. I haven't even looked at the apples yet.

We all walked down to the library this afternoon as I had read all my books and discovered the librarian got married on Saturday. I asked her what she was doing at work and she said that she had all her husbands family staying at home so she was better off at work. I thought that was really funny as well as wise. While we were there I thought Oliver might like to read a book but today all he wanted to do was play musical chairs so we didn't stay long.

So after a long day and bath Oliver has sung himself and grandad to sleep, so peace reigns until tomorrow.

Through a Window.

Day 243 Thursday 30th August

Oliver arrived at 11am today. We have planned to look after him for weeks as his mummy and daddy are going away for a couple of days by themselves.
He is staying with us for 2 sleeps and they will pick him up sometime on Saturday.
He went for a walk with grandad to buy a new rubber ring for the vacuum cleaner before lunch as the old one had snapped.
After lunch we went to to visit Jayne and Leos new house at Tarleton. Roland needed to measure a floor board that has broken in Ambers bedroom and I wanted to pick some plums and the wind fall apples before the wasps got at them.
Oliver went to 'help' grandad measure the floor board and when that was over he came down and helped me pick up the apples and put the plums in the bag.
After that we went down to the canal to see the ducks - we forgot some bread- and the barges and boats. on the way home there were some big yawns from the back seat and from me.
After tea I had to go to bed intending to get up for Olivers bed time but I didn't wake until 10 mins to 10, so I missed it all. I love bath time as well.
Jayne and Leo are moving to Tarleton this weekend and I am really going to miss them.
I decided not to add a photo of Oliver today for the prompt.

Thriving

The other day Jayne brought Amber and Leo over to see me but I didn't want to give them the virus so I stayed in bed.
Roland took these photos so I could see what Amber was up to.

Day241 and 242 Tuesday and Wednesday 28th and 29th August:

I've been out for the first time today for a week. I only went in the car with Roland to the builders yard. I actually enjoy builders yards, I love looking at all the different things and the smell of cut wood.
Roland needed a new blade for his Angle Grinder so he went to buy that while I looked around. I immediately found some great textures and couldn't decide which to choose. In the end I decided on this one.

Textured

When we got home there was a perfect picture on the drive of
Slow

Although I think it was moving pretty quickly

And later we saw this police helicopter travelling very slowly (for a helicopter)over the park
It was obviously looking for someone.

Day 240 Bank Holiday Monday August 27th:

I'm so excited. I'm watching Countryfile and they are in Cromer, our favourite holiday place. If you are watching it perhaps you can see why we love it so much. We've been everywhere they are featuring in Cromer including the top of the church tower  and walked past the Shelter they are doing up every time we walked into town.
Some of the other places we haven't been to yet so it is lovely to see if they are worth going to.

Day 239 Sunday 26th August:

It's not been a bad day today weather wise and thank you for asking Helen, I'm feeling a little better than I was, at least not vomiting now. I promise I won't talk about my health anymore as it must get boring.

The prompt today
Edible
is easy as Roland is cooking.
I'm not eating much yet so these are his plates.

Day 238 Saturday 25th August:

Yes it's Saturday with the inevitable football. The weather is not good either.
We've had thunder and lightning and the park is well and truly flooded.

Purple
Not a colour I'm keen on unless it is a flower
On of our neighbours hanging baskets looking the worst for the rain but it does have purple lobelia in it.

This was taken yesterday, not really purple but a shade of it in the Budlea.
Our butterflies love it. This peacock is one of the first coloured butterflies we have seen and very late in the season.

Day 237 Friday 24th August:

Another day of not doing anything. I seem to have caught a virus so I'm not feeling too well at all. I'm not even sure what Roland has been doing today. At the moment he is watching football.

Footwear
Since I could buy my own shoes I have had a passion for them.
When I was in my teens I bought a pair of white winkle pickers and some looking like crocodile skin with cuban heels. These were the first shoes I bought.
Later the higher they were the better, 3inch heels were the norm. Then we got to wedges and I had a shiny pink pair and of course I always had the bag to match. About 20 years ago I hurt my back badly so such high heels had to go.
Now it really is comfort before fashion but I still like the matching bag.

Days 235 and 236. Wednesday and Thursday 22nd and 23 August:

What a fantastic day we had yesterday. I couldn't blog last night as the internet was down. We left home at 7.30 and arrived back at 20.15. Needless to say today has been slept through and my muscles and joints are very sore, but it was worth every minute we spent yesterday.
We arrived in Carlisle about 1pm and stayed until 3.30pm which gave us time to eat and have a quick look round.
The train journey was fantastic, the weather was good as we only had one or two flurries of rain. In the coach we were in was a group of 24 people who were out to have a good time. They started drinking champagne as soon as we left Preston and got the picnic hampers out for breakfast. They were a group of Farmers and friends and were so friendly it made the journey even better. The engine pulled us over the Ribbleshead Viaduct and over the highest  mainline station in Engand on the railway at Dent. The engine took on water at Appleby so we had quite a long stop there
It was lovely in Carlisle especially for me as I grew up in a village nearby so it was a real nostalgia trip. Even though the scenery was lovely I forgot to take photos on the journey.

 Star
What a star the Fellsman is. It pulled 12 coaches over those inclines.
Our coach with the farmers party at the back.

The skyline and the grass in our garden.

This is what Roland was doing today at mums house while I was sleeping. He and a friend of ours felled 3 of them today. John has got a wood burning stove and went home with a trailer load of logs. He has left his chain saw with Roland so Roland can cut down the rest of the conifers while John is away.

Day 234  Tuesday 21st August:

Roland has been down to Shaun and Fiona's house to meet the agent. Everything was sorted out and a professional cleaner will get there this week to clean right through, so Leo and Jayne can move in next week.
Jayne is still not well and is going back to the hospital on Thursday for a scan.

I rung our friend, Colin,. today to arrange tomorrow. We are leaving Preston at 8.30 in the morning to travel on a steam train up to Carlisle on the Settle line. I do hope the weather is clear as the views are said to be spectacular and I want to take lots of photos. At the moment it is throwing down with rain.

Straight.

Rolands spirit level keeps things straight.

Day 233  Monday 20th August:

We went to Mums house this afternoon to wait for United Utilities to come and change the water metre.
Surprise, surprise, they didn't turn up and we had to wait for 4 hours. We got a lot more tidying and cleaning done and it was a lovely day so the time wasn't entirely wasted. The garden has a long way to go before it is the way dad used to keep it but we are getting it tidy bit by bit.

I also made 2 apple crumbles from the windfall apples at Shaun and Fionas house. They do look good.

This evening we went down to look at Preston railway station to see where we could park on Wednesday when we are going on a train trip.

Altogether a good day.

Day 232  Sunday 19th August:
A very quiet day today and I have done nothing but sleep. I'm sat next to Roland as he is watching Man City v Southhampton. I've just been made to jump with the yell from him as Southampton scored.
Square
Roland took this photo of a square peg in a round hole

The mist has come down over the park and it has gone cold.
A very still evening, it feels strange?

Day 231 Saturday 18th August:
Still feel a bit off today but we went to visit the agent of Shaun and Fionas house to pick up their keys for Leo and Jayne. While we were in the area we visited mums' house then drove down to have another look at Shaun and Fionas. while we were there I picked some plums from the Victoria Plum tree and picked up the windfall apples from the bramley and the eating apple trees. I will make either a pie or a crumble with the apples for Jayne and Leo as it is really their fruit now. I know they will share it with Roland so that is OK.
Today is the first day of the football season. Roland is waiting for the match between Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle to come on TV. I always think it is a sign of Autumn coming on when football starts but it's too early for Autumn yet.

Day 230 Friday 17th August:

I'm not feeling too good today and have spent most of the day in bed. I hope that I haven't picked up a bug from a member of the group who didn't seem well on Wednesday.

The prompt today is

Day 229 Thursday 16th August

All day today I've thought it was Friday so it is nice to find out it is Thursday after all. I'm ashamed to say I didn't get up til midday and still haven't much energy, so I've decided I'm not going to the office today after all. Instead I've baked another cake. I went to Morrisons to get some caster sugar and saw the new Bero recepie book. I couldn't resist buying it as I've had one since I first got married in 1965.
This one is much more professional than that one but it still has the coffee kisses recipe in I used to love to make back then. Perhaps I should have another go at making them.
Helen from the group came and we had a look through the end of year report so that was a good thing done.

Teamwork

Day 228 Wednesday 15th August:

August is halfway through and I feel like the month has just started. Where is the time going?
I went out for a meal again today. This time with the members of the ME group. I meant to take a photo of the people who were there for todays prompt but I completely forgot.

Jayne is still in hospital and still having investigations but Leo took Amber and baby Leo to see her. I haven't heard how she is yet but they are not sending her home yet.

Day 227 Tuesday 14th August:
Poor Jayne is still in hospital. They still haven't found out exactly what is wrong, now they are going to test for a Kidney infection.
Roland and went out with some friends for lunch then a little retail therapy. We had a great afternoon even though we didn't buy anything. Janet teaches modern tailoring and dressmaking. I met her when I wanted to learn the new ways of dressmaking years ago and we have become really good friends since.
The only time we can get together is in the summer holidays as she runs fewer classes then.
Any way we dragged Roland and Peter around the dress shops while we had a look at the new styles and a good inspection of how they were made. Then we finished the afternoon with a coffee at costa.
Great afternoon all round.

We looked for something
 Bronze
but couldn't find anything
so Roland took this photo of some of my
Bronze Fennel

Not exactly a bronze colour but I love the colour and the seeds make great tea.

Day 226 Monday 13th August:

This morning Lynne came so we could do her appraisal for the ME group. It went well and I am relieved they are both over.
I had got my library books ready to take back to the library and had started to shorten the legs on a pair of jeans for Kevin when Jayne came across to ask me to take her to the hospital as she had really bad stomach pains. We went to the gyne ward and they have kept her in. We are still waiting to see what the results are from their tests. They did say she might be able to come home tonight but nothing has happened yet.

Day 225 Sunday 12th August:

We went down to mums house this afternoon to meet Shaun to sort out some of the things he needs to take out of the garden.
Then we set off for Lytham to have a chinese meal we had booked with a groupon coupon. It was a great meal and when we got home Roland settled down to get ready to watch the closing of the olympics.

Exhaustion

Day 224 Saturday 11th August:

Oliver woke about 7.30 this morning. Luckily Roland heard him singing while he was lying in his bed, I didn't wake. Oliver stayed in bed with me while Roland went and had his shower. We had his programme on the TV but he was much more interested in watching grandad through the bathroom door. He really is his grandads boy. We all went downstairs, I made myself a cup of tea, went back to bed and left them to breakfast.
When I had finally woken up Oliver and I went to visit Jayne and family. Oliver and Jayne played for quite a long time.
Roly and Lou came for Oliver mid afternoon and he reluctantly went home. We had a great day, we always love him staying.

Day223 Friday 10th August.

Helen picked me up today and we went to the opening of a new CAB office in Leyland. The staff are thrilled to bits with their new office as it has much more room than the old one.
The Mayor of South Ribble were there to cut the blue ribbon and then the cake. It was lovely to talk to the people there. Some of them will be able to help our group and we will be able to help them as well. I believe this is called networking, if it is, it is fun.
They had laid on a lovely spread for every one and the cakes looked "out of this world". They had even gone and bought me a couple of gluten free cakes so I wasn't left out.

Higher

When I saw this prompt I thought "What am I going to do today?????"
but as the day went on these images came along.

The Willow Tree in our neighbours garden has grown taller than the houses.

Oliver has decided if he uses his potty on the settee he can be higher than everyone else.
Oliver is enjoying using his pottie at the moment and is staying with us tonight.
This is what he decided to do with it (fully clothed) while playing with my locked mobile phone. He plays with the keys just like his mum and dad and is much better at it than I am. We couldn't stop laughing.

Thursday, 9 August 2012

Day 222 Thursday 9th August:

Hair day today then off to Tarleton to look at our older son and his wifes house. We needed to check on the condition of the house for them as the letting agent is no longer letting the house for them.
Our grand daughter and family are moving in and will look after the house for them.
We then went down to mums house so Roland could re-lay some of the laminate floor in the dining area.
He would have liked to have lay some more but we had to get back home for a phone call from the letting agents. We are not very happy at the way they have looked after Shaun and Fionas house and Roland is determined they will put things right before they hand over the keys.

Day 221 Wednesday 8th August:

I keep wanting to write July for the date, I don't think my mind has caught up with the year but I have caught up with my blogs at last.
I visited Gail today for my monthly dose of the Perrin Technique and Physio.
She worked on my neck mostly to unwind the knots that have developed with all the stress I've been having lately. It certainly worked as I slept all afternoon and still feel tired but it's not the same tiredness I normally have and I know I should feel great tomorrow.

Hope
Gail and my massage.
Roland hopes it will make me feel better
He says where there is massage there is hope.
( I'm sure it will)

Day 220 Tuesday 7th August:

I was really tired when I got round to writing this blog and ended up not writing anything.
In the morning I went to a funeral of one of our members and it was a relief when that was over.
In the afternoon a friend came round and we decided to go to town on the bus. Brenda didn't really want anything but she said she would come with me as I needed to find a spiral bound notebook for the notebook swap. The relief when I went into Wilkinsons and found one is probably indescribable as I had been worrying about finding one for a couple of weeks.of course in true tradition I bought two. We went to Abercan while we were in town but neither of us saw anything we wanted.
Anyway the day ended well after a bad beginning.

Relief
The TWO notebooks I found in Wilkinson

The stop tap put back inside the house.

Enjoyment not relief
The upside down banana and blueberry cake I made for tea.

Day 219 Monday 6th August:

Quite a busy day today. Helen our groups support worker came today as we were doing an Appraisal of where the group had got to at the end of the 1st Lottery funding year and where we were going and how we we were going to achieve next years targets. We have funding for 3 years from the lottery and need to monitor that we are achieving the targets that the lottery have paid for.
Roland went to meet a plumber at Mums house as the stop tap had "disappeared"! He was ages and when he got back he said the plumber had put a new one in. We only expected him to look at what needed doing and come back another day. So that's another job done.
While Roland was out I finally baked a cake and prepared some veg. I was podding some broad beans and was impressed by how the plant protects it's seeds in a soft padding.
Tuesday

Well, yesterday in the middle of writing this my brain just stopped working I couldn't think any more (ME problem - difficult to understand if you don't have ME. Even Roland doesn't understand how it happens but he is very supportive anyway) so I went to bed and slept until the early hours.

Look how soft the inside of the broad beans are.

Sunday, 5 August 2012

Day 218 Sunday 5th August: I went with Roland today to mums house to finish tidying the bit he'd cleared up. He was certainly happy that part was finally finished. Even though they had tidied yesterday we filled 2 brown bins with debris and started a new compost heap with the smaller stuff as well as throwing polystyrene, cans and crisps and sweet packets in the bin.
Dad used to have a brilliant compost heap in the corner of the garden that he would spread on his borders and cover his rhubarb in the Spring. No rhubarb left now and you could hardly call the borders borders any more.
But Roland is really happy with what has been done so far.

Happiness in the garden seeing everything cleared.
 Mixed feelings about this picture
Happiness  seeing this baby hedgehog but concerned
because hedgehogs shouldn't be out in the daytime.
I hope it's not ill.

Happiness that the Budlea is out in our garden so bees can gather their nectar.
