Trucking along

I'm  making some progress on the baby quilt, well the back anyways since the top is done.  I started digging through my fabric stash and came up with some charm squares that were on the 'girly' side and will be using them as the main part of my backing along with some sort of solid.

I think these will work great.  Now I better get to work.

A bit of what I've been up to

I have been busy sewing the past couple of weeks.  I haven't had as much time ask I would like, but as I said on Friday, I'm trying to spend more time with the family.

In February, I have a baby shower to go to for a good friend,  She knows what her gift will be, but she doesn't know what it will look like.  I'm going to give you a peek, since she doesn't follow my blog, I can do this.

It still needs trimmed up, but the top is mostly done, I need to get some backing and then I can get it quilted.

I have also made a couple of Granny Square blocks for fun.

I am going to see what I have on hand that might just work for the backing of the baby quilt and try to stay away from the fabric store.  I'm 75% sure I will end up buying something for the backing, but alas, I can always hope I have something on hand.

I hope everyone has a great week. See you soon.

A Lovely year of finishes, January completion

At the beginning of the month I set a goal to finish my Sew Intertwined quilt.  I was really close to being done so I new I could do it.

I blogged about it here and it looked a little like this at the time.

It only took me a couple of weeks before I finished it up mid-month.  I'm glad to say that my daughter loves her 'flower quilt' as she calls it.

Here is a photo of the fabrics minus the white that I used for the quilt.  The multicolored floral print was originally going to be my backing but I decided to use it as the Dresden centers and the binding.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.  Monday, I will show you what I have been busy working on that I haven't posted, and yes I feel bad for not posting, but I feel that spending time with my children is more important at this time in their lives.

Warm Monday Wishes

It was a toasty 16 degrees this morning when I put my son on the bus.  I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.  Mine was productive, but it wasn't all that wonderful.  My sweet little demon daughter woke up with a fever on Friday, and once it hit nearly 103 degrees, which was also surpassed, we headed off to the doctor, I didn't want to mess around with a fever over the weekend and land at an urgent care or the emergency room.  After an hour in the doctors office it was determined she had the flu, no strep, no ear infection.  I'm not sure which is the worst though, on the bright side I was able to finish her quilt.

A good picture of the quilting on the back.  I love the watercolor effect.

On a queen sized bed for size visual.

A love note to my daughter in the quilting.

Feeling much better from being sick.  She had to get in my way while I was taking pictures yesterday.

She just loves her new quilt.

The finished size on the quilt is 71" x 74".  I hid the extra 3 inches of the length in the top and bottom border.

Sponsor Spotlight

I'm taking a minute to bring you some of the great upcoming fabrics that will be available to you soon at the Fat Quarter Shop.

What is the fat quarter shop?

The Fat Quarter Shop was founded in 2003 by Kimberly Jolly. An avid quilter, Kimberly began her shop as a side business while still working a corporate position, cutting, packing and shipping right out of her house during evenings and weekends. From the very beginning, she was committed to delivering top-notch service for every single order and customer. As the Fat Quarter Shop's reputation grew, Kimberly decided to make it a full-time operation. Her husband Kevin joined her not long after, and with his help, lots of hard work, and a tireless commitment, the store began to grow. Over the past few years a few more people have joined the staff!
As a team, we continue to branch out with the best fabrics, exclusive kits, quilt clubs, BOMs, and more. And we will always be driven by the passion that Kimberly founded the store upon, which is always giving you the best products and service! (copied from the fat quarter shop website)
If you have never shopped or purchased fabric online, I feel you are missing out.  I have always had great customer service with the Fat Quarter Shop and their shipping is fast too.  I think the longest I have ever waited on something to arrive was 8 days, I'm sure that delay was 100% due to the U.S.P.S. and maybe a little holiday in the mix.
Ok, enough jibber jabber here, now onto the fabric!
I think this collection of 'Lovely' would make a wonderful spring quilt.

Noteworthy has been very popular and I have seen several beautiful quilts made from it.
Do you like novelty prints?  Then you might love 'Fashion Plate'!  You will have to wait for its release in July of 2013 though.

Do you like pre-cuts? What about hexagons?  Next month you can buy pre-cut hexagons from Bella solids!  Nothing to feed an addiction if you love hexagons like I do.

Is there a little boy in your life that you love to the moon and back? Maybe he would love to snuggle up with these adorable 'Atomic Bots'

There are so many great collections of high quality fabric at the Fat Quarter Shop.  You can get everything from Aurifil thread, to patterns, to kits.  You can even get gift certificates to give to your favorite quilter.  They also have a great collection of sale and clearance fabrics and patterns.  Be sure to check them out!

WIP Wednesday

If you are visiting from WIP Wednesday over at Freshly Pieced or from A lovely year of finishes, welcome.

I'm making some good progress on my daughters quilt and am fully confident that I will get it finished by the end of the month.

I've ripped out all the puckers.

and pinned...

and finished the quilting up...

Melissa, from Sew Bittersweet Designs, talked me into using coordinating threads on a white backing for my quilting.   I think it looks amazing!  Thanks Melissa!

Here is a close up of some of  the quilting on the back.

And I have trimmed up all the edges so it is ready to be bound!

I'm linking up with WIP Wednesday over at freshly pieced.  I encourage you  all to go and take a look over there.  I promise you won't be disappointed, and I take no responsibility for the list of 999 projects that you will want to make.

Have a great day my friends.

Friday's progress

Happy Friday everyone!  I haven't been sewing much the past few days, but I did manage to rip out most of the quilting to release the puckers on the back of my daughters quilt.   I now have it pinned and ready to re-quilt those areas.

While ripping out free motion quilting is a pain in the rump, I would rather do that than have a tooth drilled at the dentist.  No I don't have any teeth that are in need of drilling due to decay or lost fillings, but the dentist is concerned about one of my fillings and well my thought on that is, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.  I have managed to put it off for 2 years now :-) and yes I do get my teeth cleaned every 6 months like I should.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

I need to rip out some of the quilting on the back, I have a HUGE pucker, and then finish the quilting.    I can't wait to show you the quilting on the back it is so cool!    I also need to trim it up, make the binding, and bind it.

It isn't too late to sign up.  You have until January 7th to link up your project for January that you would like to finish.  There are monthly prizes for finished projects and if you don't finish your project for the month, don't worry, keep on it.

Happy New Year 2013!

To start I have finally collected my 2012 year of finishes photos.  Now I didn't know it was humanly possible to finish so much in one year. I had close to 50 finishes total.  I know of 4 that I didn't take pictures of, but I plan on getting those from my sister since her children are reaping the benefits.

Not pictured are 4 no sew fleece blankets that I made for my sisters kids for Christmas!  If you count the pictures you will find 44 things that I completed in 2012.  When you add the 4 blankets that make 48 finishes. No wonder I always felt like a chicken running around with its head cut off.

Sorry, I have been MIA lately.  My son is out of school on 'winter break' and I have been spending a lot of time with the kids and playing outside in the 11+ inches snow we got the day after Christmas, the 3.5" we got 3 days after that and now we got about 1-2 more inches yesterday.

The first one is out my front door, what it was still coming down on the 26th.

The kids were thrilled to go sledding.

And well, they needed someone to pack the snow down so the sled would go faster, so I had to get in on the action.  My hubby is lucky that I didn't throw a snow ball at him for taking my picture.

Happy New Year everyone, may it be filled with joy, health, and lots of fabric!
