A Lovely Year of Finishes, February Finish

That is a lot of "F's"!  I didn't go all fancy on this months project, in fact I did just the opposite.  February went way too fast for me and while I got some sewing done, it feels like I didn't much of anything done.

In case you have forgotten, the project I chose for this month was to finish up something with these 2 blocks.

By mid month I had added another border to the one block.

Now for the not so grand finally...

I ended up sewing the two blocks together for this lovely pillow.  My daughter has already tried to claim it, but I'm not letting her have it.  I'm going to see if the local hospice or oncology center has a need for small pillows for their patients and possible make up a few more.  If they don't need anything like that then I will probably give it to good ole mom, it does match her bedroom.

Little somethings

I posted last week that I was going to try and make some clothes for my friends preemies.  Well I think I succeeded.  If nothing else, her oldest daughter will have some clothes for her dolls.

I made these tiny for me to make, Kimono robes out of some knit fabric scraps I had.  I think they are quite adorable and the smaller of the two fit my daughters 18" doll.  I guess I know now that I have no problems making doll clothes.

I found the pattern for the Kimono online, but cannot remember where it was at and for that I apologize.

My Valentine's project

Last week I made time to sew up this little dress for my daughter to wear to my sons Valentines party at school.

She just loves Hello Kitty so when I came across this fabric and had a 50% off coupon I snatched some up. Now she has a dress that will fit her for a while because I made it a bit too big for her.

As I was making this I realized how much I enjoy making clothes.  Don't get me wrong I like making quilts too, but for me the dresses go together so much faster.

Today, I am going to take a step and try to make some preemie clothes for my friends twins who are in the NICU.  They were born 15.5 weeks early or 25.5 weeks gestation so you don't have to do the math.  The bigger of the two girls was 1 pound  10 ounces at birth and is now 4 lbs 9 oz. and is 2 months old. The smaller one was a mere  14.5 ounces at birth and is now 3 lbs 7 oz.   The babies have to be a certain weight before they can wear clothes do to maintaining their body temp.  Amazingly these girls have hit this milestone and are continuing to grow and thrive.  They might be tiny but they no longer need a breathing machine and just amaze everyone each and every day.

I hope everyone has an amazing day.

I'm still here.

I need to apologize for not being around here much lately.  I've been busy sewing, cooking, and driving all over the place.

First of all Ellie's quilt was a hit!

I've also made a little progress on my monthly project as well, by framing out the center squares a little more.

I'm not sure what I am going to do yet, but I'm thinking about sewing the 2 blocks together and making a pillow from them The squares are roughly 12" each give or take.  I am really enjoying doing the Lovely Year of Finishes.  I have a much bigger goal for next month so I need to get my game on and finish lots of little things this month so I have a little extra time in March.

I hope everyone is doing well and are getting lots of sewing done.

Ellie's Quilt

I have made this quilt for a friend of mine who has tried for 3 years to have a baby.  I can't wait to see her precious bundle in a few weeks.

I love making baby quilts. I think maybe because they are on the smaller size and can be a quick finish depending on the pattern.  I have had a ton of interruptions while working on this quilt so it has taken me a couple of weeks to do.  This quilt is really basic.  I framed some minky squares, and then added the row into some charm strips.   I quilted in the ditch for this because I think anything else would take away from the beauty.

For the back I had some left over charm squares that I sewed together and did a disappearing 9-patch with and added my signature block at the bottom.

A Lovely Year of Finishes, February Goal

After much racking for the brain I have finally decided to finish up what ever I was doing with this pile of scraps left from a baby quilt I made several years ago.

I honestly am not sure what these are going to become yet.  They may be pillows or they may become tiny NICU blankets.

I am making progress on my friends baby quilt.  I pieced the backing over the weekend and can't wait to show it to you.  You are going to have to wait until later this week to see it though, I haven't taken 'good' pictures of it yet. I hope I can make that happen today, I have have a big list of domestic things to get done first.
