Sometimes we were naughty... most of the time we were nice. He came. He gifted us plenty and now we are laying around, playing with new toys, napping, eating, laughing with family, and wishing Christmas day was more than just 24 hours.

merry christmas had 2008.

you think you know her...but you have no idea

Happy Birthday to dandee (aka danyelle)

My closest friend and advisor.

a few things about danyelle that you may find interesting on this, her 20-something birthday.

(i'm refusing to reveal her age because it reminds me of how old I really am)

1. her mom still gets after her sometimes

2. she doesn't like other people handling her food (especially small children)

3. she thinks The Rock is attractive (2nd to Ryan of course. oh...and buble)

4. she craves meat

5. she used to heart wolfs and considered them appropriate room decor.

6. she hates science fiction and has therefore never seen Star Wars.

7. she loves to people watch.

8. she is very particular about her bottled water.

9. she still calls her Dad "daddy," as all girls should. (even the grown-up ones)

10. she has already planned out her daughters', granddaughters' and great-granddaughters' weddings. ( which may work well for you if one of yours happens to marry one of hers)

I have another list of Danyelle. On that list you would find words like: creative genius, open minded, loving mother, genuine person, confident, and spiritually anchored, just to name a few.

Hope you have a great day Danyelle. Happy Birthday from me.

his christmas spirit runnith over

While I am feeling like Christmas has fallen on top of me and I can't get up, my son is more than feelin' the holiday season.

(can be seen wearing this Santa hat everyday to school)

(one of many Christmas drawings I've found around the house)

What I've concluded from all of this: I've got to get me one of those Santa hats.

What does a boy who loves apples want to do for his 9th birthday?

Make apple juice of course. The kids had lots of fun and Brock has all the homemade apple juice his now 9 year old heart could possibly desire.

thankful

an essay by Brock

I am thankful for a president because that means we can have good government. I am thankful for good parents because that means I am not alone. I am thankful that my parents have good jobs because that means I can have clothing, food and a house to live in. I am thankful for school because that means I can have a good education. I am thankful for the U.S. army because that means that I can be free. I am thankful for a teacher because that means I can learn more things every day. I am thankful for a healthy body becuase that means I can play sports. I am thankful for all these wonderful things.

For me...the perfect start to the season of thanks. I am thankful for Brock.

i see me in this

Dear Sister,

I can't get this out of my head! How do you do it? Mom by day...crocheting maniac by night. You with your laundry basket full of skeens and your needles moving like mad.

I don't know how you do it, but your etsy loving sister couldn't be more thrilled.

Love,

Me

Each night I ask Him to make up the difference in all the areas of my life that, despite my best most sincere efforts, I fall short. Tonight I wondered if I was doing the same for Him. You know...making up the difference. He is not here right now, but I am. I wonder...am I making a difference in all those places that He just can't be right now?

I know how much I need Him. Tonight I am reminded of how much He needs me.

i gave her this

My Brynn is always so good at giving me all kinds of little notes. I have a stack that I have saved in a keepsake box. They usually go something like this:

Dear Mom,
I know I love you.
Love, Brynn.

So I decided to take a second and write her a quick note. It went like this:

Now I would like to say that, after opening my note to her, Brynn ran upstairs and placed it in a safe place where she could always look at it. However the truth is, she opened it, said "Thanks Mom!" and then jumped down from the kitchen table in some kind of hurry, tossing her card in her half eaten plate of syrup covered pancakes.

Not the warm and fuzzy moment I had hoped for, but she did say "Thanks," or was that a thanks for pouring her more orange juice? Oh, well. Either way, I'll take it.

up on an airplane

The little Cs and I just got back from a much needed trip to Texas. We played with cousins, we pumpkin patched, we braved the heat for a Texas State Fair experience, and we (I mean "I") swooned over Michael Buble yet again (I know...it's a sickness...really it is.)
For me, there's nothing quite like going home. For Cole, there's nothing quite like riding in an airplane for the very first time.

He cried when it was time to deboard the plane.

PS: love to all my Texas family. i miss you already.

i heart my job

Brock has been working so hard on his reading lately. His math/science brain doesn't naturally steer towards the nearest book for a good read. In an effort to encourage him, we both have been reading a series together. He is on book three of Del Torra Quest. I am on book two.

B.rock says, "Mom...it's getting good!"
I say, "SHHH...don't tell me! I'm not there yet!"

He has no idea how much I am loving doing this with him!

political me weighs in

Our government...by the people...for the people. Not so much!

If you pay attention to politics and what is going on on Wall Street, you now know this is not the case. Our nation in financial crisis and our government finds it an appropriate time to play politics. Democrates and Republicans pointing the finger at each other. Even up until the moment they are supposed to be passing a bill to help our country gain some sort of economic footing. Both parties wanting to get the last word. Reminds me of a toddler I know!

Now, I could tell myself that what goes on on Wall Street has no effect on me, so it doesn't matter. However, I would be kidding myself. I've spent too much time watching Fast Money to believe that! (Yes...I watch money shows on TV. Who knew?)

What can I do? I CAN VOTE. I can make an educated decision, doing my best to sort through the spin our media puts on everything to try to get me to vote the way they want me to vote! (that is another post in and of itself.)

If I was cool...I would end this post by saying ROCK THE VOTE! But I'm not...so I'll just say VOTE!

just keepin' it real

Me 1:55 pm. No make-up.

I am out of my pajamas though. I need to go to Wal-Mart. I wonder if my family will protest if I serve scrambled eggs for dinner? Cole won't. Eggs are his favorite. I wonder if anyone will notice if I go to Wal-Mart like this? What am I talking about...it's Wal-Mart. I desperately need to vacuume my house. I did pick up a few fuzz balls off the floor. We'll call it good! I need to do laundry. Brock wore the same underwear he had on yesterday. Sorry bud. Cody has been in this outfit sense yesterday. Sorry bud. Where has this day gone? What's that hymn that keeps playing over and over again in my head? Have I done any good in the world today? I am going to throw together a bomb FHE. We'll count that. I'm tired, but I'm smiling in this pic. I think I am surviving. Cody just smiled at me. Cole is yelling at me that if I don't come now...he is going to wipe himself. I'm out!

my home boys

These two keep me company while the others are away.

I'm pretty sure they got my back...or maybe they are plotting to one day team up and do all kinds of things behind my back. Either way, they've got me covered.

i like these

Found these switch plates here.

(This is my favorite. Great for a girl's room. Although I am tempted to put it in my own room, and surely I don't have to tell you in which position the light switch would be!)

thoughts from the otherside of bowl of ice cream #3

Feeling that I may have gone overboard, but my 3 year old conquered his fear of the toilet after well over a week of struggle and I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate. "Mom," he said, "I pooped on the potty and I'm not freaking out!"

Last bite of ice cream, bowl#3...here's to patience, frustration, failure, and finally success!

You know her...you love her

Happy Birthday to my Mom.
(aka Grandma T, T-Bopper, and the Perfume Princess)

She is without a doubt the nicest most genuine person I know. That having been said, it is no suprise that she has cried at every Hallmark made for TV movie (not to mention their commercials.)

Love you Mom.

I aspire to have as big a heart as you do.

happy birthday sweet girl!

She's 6 today and I can't hardly believe it. A first grader, and becoming more and more her own person every day.

Happy Birthday Brynn!

I love the smart, funny, sweet, independent, loyal, peacemaking little girl that you are.

life long "to do" list

This is the kind of "to do" list I like. One that allows for all the time in the world.

LIFE LONG "TO DO" LIST:
  1. Learn to play the chello.
(I know...I'm an orchestra geek at heart.)

  2. Stand in front of Michaelangelo's Pieta in Rome.
    (in pictures...awe inspiring)

  3. Watch as my kids grow to become who they are meant to become.
    (sky is the limit)

I wonder what your list looks like???????

a FAIR amount of fun

1...2...3... Say BLESSINGS!

Me behind the camera. My eyes a little watery. So much to be grateful for.

Never perfection the first time around.
(what is Brock doing? i know what Cole is doing!)

Close to perfection when given a second chance.

Thankful the Lord gives us second chances every day. Somehow saying "cheese" just doesn't seem right.

1...2...3... Say BLESSINGS!

4-2= something's missing

So...my oldest two are gone. Gone on a whirl wind trip to Dallas with Grandma and Papa (where they are no doubt having the time of their lives.) Leaving me with my two little Cs. And while I am enjoying the quiet of two kids (Well, one really. Cole is always good at making himself heard!). . .I am officially confessing that I am missing the craziness of four.

What have we been doing to pass the time until Brock and Brynn return?

Some sleeping, some sidewalk chalk, and a whole lot of nursing up in here!
