Named Patterns

Did you see this post about the new pattern company Named on Rachel's blog?

The minute I saw it I went to the company's website and the patterns are adorable!

I ordered these so far:

Shane Pleated Top

Blair Batwing Shirt

Jamie Jeans

Andy Coat

You should get on this! Also, read Rachel's interview with the sister designers. I can't wait to see more from these ladies!

Victory!

Ok, so I've been pretty MIA lately. I've been sewing and cutting and buying fabric and such but somehow the blogging part has been left behind. So in the next few days I'll be photographing my latest projects and writing posts and hopefully by next week I'll be back to posting regularly, but a girls gotta take a summer vacay sometimes right?

Anyway, despite my lack of blogging lately, I couldn't help but post this the minute I saw it. Victory Patterns has released their new collection! It's called the Niagra Collection and it's fabulous!

There's the Satsuki...

the Simone...

the Roxanne...

and the Nicola!

Aren't they lovely? The Nicola is my favorite (in part due to the fact that my middle name is Nicole), but the Simone is a close second. They're coming home with me today! Once again, the patterns from Victory are beautiful and super unique to the pattern world. It's so nice to see unusual  silhouettes and such on-trend styles! As always, lovely job Victory Patterns! Can't wait to see what the sewing world does with these patterns!

What's your favorite?

Obsession...

Or, how many bow tie blouse patterns is it reasonable for one person to own?

Because I think I own 10. At least 10. It's kind of a problem. So much so that the other day I discovered I had purchased the same bow tie blouse pattern twice from Etsy. Yikes.

Anyway, I'm giving one to you dear readers! The pattern is size 14, 36 inch bust and it's clearly very cute since I bought it twice!

Leave me a comment letting me know what type of garment you have multiple patterns for (or if you're a person who can settle for just one version of a bow tie blouse!). I'll pick someone on Friday, May 11th and let you know!

Dream Dress + Giveaway Winner!

The preview for next months Burda just came up on the Russian website here and I'm pretty obsessed with this dress...

I want to make it with this fabric I showed you a few days ago. Unfortunately I have to wait for the fabric and the magazine to come in before I get started. Perfect engagement photo dress right?

Now to the giveaway! The winner is Kelli who said:

Congratulations on your 100 followers, and your engagement. Since I have had the Iris pdf pattern in my colette shopping cart since it was released, that's the pattern I would love to have(instant gratification, right?)

Shoot me an email Kelli and I'll get Iris right to you!

Thanks for entering and happy Wednesday!

Why PayPal is trying to ruin my life...

Ever since PayPal introduced it's Bill Me Later feature, I've been pretty sure that it's been trying to ruin my life. Now Etsy purchases are just a click away, without the stress of figuring out if I have money in my bank account to cover it! I don't actually carry a huge balance, I pay it off pretty much every paycheck, but I just found out they upped my credit limit. Uh oh... I see some wedding related Etsy purchases in my future.

In the meantime here's what Bill Me Later has convinced me I need lately:

A DIY cross stitch Iphone case from this store. I've been wanting one of these forever!

I've had my eye on this fabric for probably a year! It was my engagement present to myself and I think I'll use it to make a dress for our engagement pictures. I used an Instagram filter so the colors aren't showing as bright but it's gorgeous and I can't wait for it come in the mail! This shop has a ton of great fabrics, almost don't want to share it though because I'm afraid you'll buy up some of my other favorite pieces!

These are from this shop. I also have my eye on this cross stitch pattern...

In other news, my sister got to meet Elsie from A Beautiful Mess last night! We both totally adore her blog and text each other all the time about her posts. She was in Houston last night with her husband's band, so my sister went to see them and got a picture. Couldn't be more jealous...

Remember you have until midnight Central time to enter my giveaway for one of the new Colette Patterns! Good luck loves!

New Years Suprises!

A few months ago I won a giveaway by Angie from Quality Time and I was super excited to receive the package a few days ago! So of course I'm sharing it with you!
First off, the fabric. The piece on the left is a wool plaid, that will go perfectly with my new brown platform loafers. The other is a large piece of poly jersey that will make a fun wrap dress.

Next up, I love this vintage jewelry! The bracelet is to die for!

A few vintage notions...

A big favorite, vintage patterns! The cat loves them too...

Here are some of my favorites...

A vintage Ladies Home Journal (another favorite of the cat)...
with precious vintage ads!

A cool sewing book that will help me with my dream of making a quilt!
Thanks so much Angie! I'm so excited to use all this great stuff!

Spoiling Myself Rotten...

It's ridiculous how much sewing stuff I'm buying myself for my "Christmas present" this year. Does it make you a bad person to spend more money on Christmas gifts for yourself than everyone else on your list combined? Maybe. But if this is wrong I don't want to be right...

First up, 2 vintage patterns from Etsy:

First Simplicity 7845, which I saw on someone else's blog (can't remember who now) and then immediately snatched up the first one I saw on Etsy. If I can get my butt off the couch this morning I'll be making the cream colored version in maroon for Christmas.

Second is Simplicity 6912, which I purchased from a fellow Texan, Christa, who has a million great patterns for really decent prices, so go over and get some! I'm crazy excited about this pattern because I already have 50 different ways I want to make it for summer!
In other pattern news...

I shamefully have never purchased any Colette patterns, although I have used and loved the Sorbetto, so I bought the Colette Sewing Handbook as well as the patterns for the Clover pants (I've been wanting to make these forever!) and Jasmine blouse. Can't wait for it all to come in!

Then, this morning I discovered (via Lazy Stitching) another fabulous independent sewing company, Victory Patterns! I immediately purchased the Ava Dress/Blouse, which is too fabulous for words and it's now patiently sitting in PDF form on my computer, waiting to be printed out!
Finally, to round out the "printed materials" category, I bought the famed Fit for Real People a few weeks ago and have been gobbling it up ever since! I've heard so much about this book and I'm super excited to use the techniques in it, however, I have to say, the pictures and styling make me laugh every time. Especially this one...

Finally, the sister and mom came to the city yesterday for some craft store/pet store shopping and since JoAnns was having a huge sale and I had the coupons, they graciously invited me along. So I ofcourse bought a ton of fabric, as you do...

And I finally caved and bought the Martha Stewart glitter glue pens I've been lusting after for almost a year. They're $35 normally, but I had a 40% off coupon, which brought them down to around $20. Maybe after another year of convincing I'll buy the loose glitter collection...

Here are all 24 of them in their glittery glory...

I've already used them to give myself a glittery Christmas manicure that I'm not sure you can see in this picture. Suffice to say, my nails are super sparkly, just the way I like them!

Hope you're spoiling yourself a little (or a lot) this Christmas too!

Thrifting + a Good Mail Day

Lots of sewing items acquired this weekend. First off, the new Burda and a Sewaholic pattern came in the mail!

I loved lots of things about the new Burda but I really loved the fairytale theme than ran through the issue and I thought the Christmas crafts were adorable! It almost makes me wish I had kids so I could make a Little Red Riding Hood house!

Also loved the artwork for these plate and fabric transfers!

This page makes me want to learn to knit RIGHT NOW. How cozy does that blanket look? LOVE it!

I ordered the Sewaholic pattern to make this skirt for my sister. She is young and cute and in college so she can get away with wearing cute short skirts. I already had the perfect fabric in my stash so when I saw her pin this on Pinterest I knew all I needed was the Crescent skirt pattern to make it. Hopefully starting on this in the next few days...

Next up I visited my neighborhood thrift store and picked up some more sewing stuff. I probably have 20 jacket and top patterns just like this but for 25 cents I couldn't resist taking them home just to make sure...

I also picked up this hilarious jumpsuit pattern that just makes me laugh with it's craziness, but let's face it, I'll probably make it and pretend it's cool. I loved the sexiness of this 70's jersey dress, not sure when I'll make it but I couldn't pass it up.

Finally I found this great 60's Vogue suit in my size, and...

3 yards of black wool suiting, which is exactly how much this pattern calls for! And for only $6! Yay! To be honest, I have no idea when I'll get around to this project but I feel like it was serendipity to find the pattern and the fabric together!

Today I'm starting my "Week of Tops". I'm hoping to get through my Fall sewing by powering through a category of clothing each week. This week I hope to finish 3-4 tops, next week I'll focus on 3-4 skirts, then I'll give myself 2 weeks to get through 3-4 dresses. All the tops are cut out, and they should be fairly easy because they're all pullovers with no closures. However, I'm supposed to be spending this afternoon teaching a girlfriend how to sew, so my projects will have to take a back burner today. We'll see how it goes!

Hope your weekend was fabulous!

Sunday Night Musings...

-Finally finished the aprons! The two on the left are examples of the 6 I made for the instructors of the pie making class and the one on the right I made to give away as a door prize. They turned out to be very cute and the women receiving them are very excited. Too bad they took WAY longer than anticipated!

-My Sewaholic patterns came in! Trying to decide whether or not to try and get the Lonsdale dress finished for my birthday dinner this weekend or wait until the sewalong...

-In other birthday news, I hit up JoAnns this weekend for a little pre-birthday fabric shopping (not really any different than the fabric shopping I do all year, except I feel less guilty ;). 2 new Simplicity patterns, a blue plaid suiting for $2 a yard (!), a fabulous grey zebra print quilting cotton to make a pencil skirt and a gorgeous floral quilting cotton with cute birds that I hoping to pair with some bright blue fabric from Goodwill to make a version of Shoes and Sewing's Night Bloom knock-off.

-Started watching Gertie's bombshell dress lessons this weekend. I already feel like I'm learning a ton and the lessons are super interesting but making the dress seems like quite the project so I might save it for a few weeks until I'm feeling up to it!

-I do not love the new fall Vogue patterns as much as these ladies...

-I had the pleasure of having my cute 14 year old cousin stay with me this weekend, so I'm amazed that between the movie watching, sleeping late, shopping, face masks and apron sewing that I was able to sew something for myself! More on that tomorrow...

Have a fabulous Monday loves!

Free Pattern Month !?!?!?!?

Sooooo excited about Grosgrain's Free Pattern Month!

I looked over the list of pattern contributers a few days ago and a ton on my favorite bloggers are on the list! Today's contributor is Adey from The Sew Convert who I completely love! She's one of my favorite contributers on The Sew Weekly. Her pattern is a kaftan top that seems super simple and cute! It looks like something I could throw together in one night. Maybe something to work on soon, but in the meantime, there's a new pattern tomorrow!
