Monday? Already???

Mine was green too! (just so you know...) I apologize to some of you that I haven't been around yet... do you all think you could just quit blogging for a day or two and give me a chance to catch up? I don't know WHY I'm soooooo tired, but I am and I don't seem to have a brain left either. On top of that I've gone and gotten involved in a BOOK -- Step On A Crack by James Patterson -- I LOVE his stuff! I WANT to put it down, but it only stays down long enough to get the bare essentials done and then I'm right back in it. I'm sorry. Bad timing... I know. I haven't gone through my hundreds of pictures. I haven't scrubbed my scummy kitchen floor and I haven't EVEN gone grocery shopping yet. (youngest son should be scrubbing the kitchen floor - as it is apparently HIS party that is all over it -- but that's another post and I don't think I can hold out that long...) Anyway... I'm still making the rounds... to get you all visited -- and at least ONE comment per! I know... I know... Vacation is HARD work, ya know???

I'm Baaaaaa-aaack!

Catch me if you can!

Happy Sunday Friends! I am home, safe and sound -- not sure I'm HAPPY about it -- but I'm here nonetheless! The beach was WONDERFUL .... it doesn't know any other way to be! I am up to my armpits in laundry right now ... wasn't that where I was at right BEFORE vacation too? *sigh* ... but I shall be back with a REAL post eventually! I will probably get caught up reading some of your blogs FIRST though! I hope all is well in your worlds!

T.G.I.F ! ! ! .... Skywatch Friday....

is hosted by Tom

This was taken at Solomon's Island, MD off the deck at the Solomon's Island Pier restaurant. The bridge is the Gov. Thomas Johnson bridge - it connects Calvert and St. Mary's Counties where the Chesapeake Bay and the Patuxent River converge. It was about 4:00 in the afternoon, and a bit of a hazy day...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Around the House Neighborhood
Yes indeedy! Thank GOD it IS Friday! And allllllllllllllllll of the clothes are back in my closet!!! Whoo hoo! Except for the ones that are neatly packed and waiting to leave TOMORROW for a week at the beach! I'm sO excited I think I might POP! The ocean and I have a long standing love affair! I stand in awe of the might and power of God that IS the ocean! Not to mention the beauty! It just amazes me! Every time!
Today is the day I get my *new and improved* permanent dentures! I am sO excited! The other ones have gotten sO loose and have been gagging me and causing all kinds of misery! If any misery comes from the new ones I'm going to ignore it and pretend it doesn't exist! Hence, I am positive my permanent dentures are going to be PERFECT! Come back later to catch a glimpse of my new smile!
Luz and I went on a wee little bit of an explore yesterday. It was her first time to Quiet Waters Park -- a very nifty naturey park near her new home! (they moved last weekend) I took her there to go to the playground - which we DID do, but after the little girls she started playing with left, she sorta lost interest in the playground. So we went for a little walk.
... sorta like on a balance beam!
Quiet Waters has lots of unique sculptures...
mostly by local artists.
For some reason Luz was fascinated with this one.
A very high stack of rocks.
3 stacks actually.
One on each corner of the triangle.
Sometimes it doesn't take MUCH to be a sculpture...
just a thought.
THEN Luz found the BIG find!
What is that turtle DOING Nana?
Well... we're not sure... but we BELIEVE
that turtle was laying some eggs!
It appears she has dug a largish hole...
... and plopped her butt in it...
I THINK she was making a deposit!
I don't know what kind of turtle this is.
It looks like a GIANT one of those
little painted turtles.
(do they GET this big?)
She sure is pretty though!
Don'tcha think?
Thursday 13 ... Unbelievable U
13 Things
formerly
Undisclosed about Melli
Beginning with Letter...
(okay... sOMe of them may have been priorly disclosed)
1. Uncoordinated -- Yes... sadly it's true. Though for years I tried to enjoy aerobics, I just never could learn to grapevine! I'm afraid I am Utterly Uncoordinated! I've got no rhythm! They always want me to clap at church and I'm like LOOK! Ya got me to SING - you DON'T want me to CLAP!!! *sigh*... I'm such a dork!
2. Underdog -- Not only was HE one of my favorite cartoon characters when I was small - but as an adult, I always tend to root for the underdog! I'm always hoping the little guy will come out on top!
3. Uneasy -- Often times I am uneasy in a large crowd. NOT of strangers. I can be in huge crowds of strangers and be just fine. I'm uneasy when I am in a large crowd of friends and acquaintances!!! (is that weird or what???) I much prefer gatherings of just a few friends at a time. I am NOT a party animal!
4. Underpaid! -- Yep! This is definitely me! I am most assuredly UNDERPAID! This might be because I am...
5. Unemployed -- Of course I am unemployed! I am staying home to do the hardest job I've EVER had! And I'm not making enough anything for it!
6. Understanding -- I am trying to be understanding about this whole situation. I have a LOT of questions for God though...
7. Universal Studios -- I have a love/hate relationship with Universal Studios Theme Park in Florida. Once inside the gate I found this to be one of my favorite places. Some of the rides were really cool, and getting to see HOW special effects are done was really neat. But getting IN to the place was a living nightmare! A sour spot on our entire family vacation (and mind you this was 6 or 8 years ago!) that we will never forget!!!
8. Ultraviolet Light -- I love it! Some people slather on many many SPFs to avoid being exposed to this stuff --- but I admit I am a sun worshiper! (well not literally... I think we all know where I stand worship-wise!) But I do love to be out in the sun and get a tan! I do also prefer the natural UV light from the sun as opposed to laying in a casket like device surrounded by fluorescent tubes!
9. Union -- For 9 years I was a UNION Sheet Metal Worker. My husband is still a UNION Sheet Metal Worker. Despite this fact, I am a decidedly non-union person. I do believe that once upon a time, unions were developed to make life better for the workers ... and ... we may actually be coming INTO such a time again now. But there are also times when the Union rules and regulations hold their members back from making advancements that can be made in the non-union world! I have honestly never noticed the benefits being GREATER in the Union than they are outside of it.
10. Unicef -- When I was a kid I used to always go Trick or Treat for Unicef. I loved carrying that little orange box with me and collecting the coins that people would put in it. It was a lot more fun than just writing out that check and sending it on it's way. I'm sure my check is more helpful... but I miss those little boxes. Do kids DO that anymore? (we don't even get trick or treaters for CANDY - much less for Unicef!)
11. Upsidedown -- hehehe... I really DO love to be upsidedown! For years I had horrible back problems and saw a chiropractor regularly. I used to wish desperately for one of those machines that you could get on and flip upsidedown. I was just sure if I could reverse gravity that would help tremendously! I'm still convinced that pulling the spine in the other direction occasionally could ONLY cause good things! Aside from that -- I also love Pineapple Upsidedown Cake!
12. Uncork -- Yea... you know... not often... but just occasionally... it's nice to sit back in the evening and uncork a bottle of wine. Or a bottle of champagne. Yea... *POP!*
13. USA!!! -- Yes indeedy! I AM a USAian! And I'm darned PROUD of it too!!! I'm not blind. I know we have some issues. But I'm positive that with God's help we'll get them cleared up! She's a GRAND old flag!
Hide~n~Seek . . .
I found you!
I can't believe the change in the weather all of a sudden! For a few weeks we were in the upper 80's and 90's every single day -- even some 100's! Then all of a sudden today we couldn't even MAKE 80! Whew! Luz wanted to go to the pool - it was about 76 - and the water in her pool is really WARM already - so I thought we'd be fine! Nope! We were coooooold! The water WAS warm -- and as long as we stayed IN all was fine! But the minute we stepped out... WHOA! There was a really good breeze going on too - so the cool temps along with the breeze - made it a bit nippy for sure! We only stayed for about 90 minutes -- in the water the whole time! Her lips were turning purple and she still didn't want to go home! OY! Sorry kiddo! We took her bike and went to the park instead! Hope THIS weather doesn't stick around too long... (LOL! Sooooo many people will think I'm crazy for that!)
Randomness...
Beauty in the median strip...
Not much happening today... Just counting down the days until the beach. Get this! I've started PACKING already!!! Whoo hoo! Well... I figured while I was doing all that laundry, I might as well just fold some of it and put it in the suitcases! Save a step along the way! My right shoulder has started bothering me again... another OLD pain from before I lost weight and exercised regularly. Ugh... I have just got to get myself organized and get BACK to being healthy. In the meantime... I have an appointment to get a cortisone shot on Wednesday. Wellllllll... I don't want to end up in the emergency room on VACATION!!!
Oh Bible study tonight was interesting! We've been studying David -- supposed to be a 9 week study - but my Monday night group - we pick things over with a fine tooth comb -- so this study has gone on for 6 months! LOL! We are finally on the last chapter of the study -- and we still couldn't finish it up tonight! We got off on a sidebar -- had a major huge discussion about the Triune God head... and how we each "deal" with it. Knowing there is only ONE God! ONE God! That's all there is -- but then we pray TO God, THROUGH Jesus, FOR the Holy Spirit to work through us. Man! It's no wonder non-Christians think we're nuts sometimes!!! I've been a Christian ALL.MY.LIFE. -- and I still have a hard time wrapping my mind around it sometimes! It really WAS a great discussion though!
The Weekend's OVER? ... Finally!
It was beautiful, busy and FUN -- but I'm glad it's behind me! LOL! Friday night RELAY FOR LIFE was AWESOME!!! It always is! I just can not say enough good things about this event! But first, I DO want to THANK, one more time, those of you who donated to my walk for Cancer! I made my first goal and that was GREAT!!! Usually I put in the whole amount myself -- so you guys helping me with that allowed me to take a little more TO Relay! And all money spent AT Relay also goes to ACS!!! So, it's all good!!! If you have never been to one, I honestly urge you with ALL of my heart to make an effort to attend! Do not just donate money to a friend and let that be that! As a matter of fact... if you can only afford to give $10 or $20 dollars to ACS -- DON'T give it to a friend who's walking. GO TO RELAY!!! Take the kids, buy a hot dog and a soda - they generally sell for $1 each! Of course, there's also pulled pork sammiches, burgers, brats, you NAME it -- lots of bake sale goodies! Don't come planning to "stay on your diet"!!! Have the kids faces painted, let them play some games... My Curves team from last year does face painting and tattoos -- they get a buck for a face, and $1 for a small tattoo - $2 for a super duper size tat! Most of the games were 50 cents a pop! This year they even had Guitar Hero!!! The line was loooooong! If you have LOTS of money to donate to ACS - give a little to a friend who's walking and STILL attend the RELAY! Bring all that other money along! Use it to invest in some of the raffles! Most tickets are only a dollar a pop - but SOME are a bit more! OUR tent (First Lutheran Church) actually had someone offer RIDES in a Ferrari - Two hours - all around the county -- this wasn't even a "raffle" - it was just a buy it -- $100 for the ride! (hey - gas is almost that much these days!) LOL! Granted - not tooooooo many people bought into that -- but the few that DID will have great fun, and the money went to a GREAT cause! We also had a raffle for a 7 night Carnival Cruise -- those tickets were $5 each -- but we also had a raffle for a $500 gasoline card -- $1 per chance! All in all, there were probably 200 tents set up -- each one doing something different! Tell me you couldn't find something to interest you in all that! And... when you DO attend relay - make sure you STAY until AFTER the Luminaria Ceremony. That doesn't cost you a thing! (unless you have purchased a luminaria in honor of someone) But the ceremony itself is just so beautiful! So touching. Our event takes place on a school track -- so the entire track is lined with the bags. (on the inside and outside of the track!) When all those candles are lit... and everyone walks the track in silence, remembering those who have passed on, and honoring those who've survived... it is AWESOME! It's sending chills up my spine right now just typing about it! EVERYONE should experience this ONE time! But let me tell you something... if you do it once... you're gonna wanna do it again! It was GREAT!!! (this is my 4th time participating -- and I have attended without participating twice) So... if your town hasn't DONE their Relay yet --- think about ATTENDING this year! You won't be sorry!
I did not get to stay at Relay for as long as I would have liked to this year. Mom did GREAT - she really enjoyed the event and she walked the track right along with everyone else! As a matter of fact, when we would stop at our tent so I could see if they needed my help, Mom would get antsy and wanted to get back out there and walk! So she did really REALLY well! But along about the time the Luminaria ceremony was winding up, she was starting to fizzle out. I think because up until then, the track had been well lit and she didn't realize how late it WAS! But when they turned off all the lights - whooops! The signal hit her brain and it was all over! So we left about 10:30 and got home around 11:00.
Saturday was busy with a variety of things! First, we slept in a little bit. Then Mom, Krysti & I all went and got our nails done. We did the grocery shopping and then went to the pool for a few hours. When we got home I made dinner and then it hit me that Dennis wasn't home! OY! Friday night this wasn't a problem because RELAY was entertaining me AND Mom! But Mom's used to watching TV with Dennis in the evenings and she didn't quite know what to do with herself without him here. So I had to entertain her - we played cards for awhile until I thought I could reasonably get her into an early bed! It worked! But by then I was tired too... and I just ended up going to bed early too! I'm still working on the closet laundry - so I did two more loads while I layed in bed reading, and then it was lights out!
This morning we had church. Mom doesn't usually go with me. I like to go to Sunday School before church - and she can't sit through that! She gets too bored and fidgety. It's distracting -- to ME if not to anyone else! But I'm pretty sure it's distracting to everyone! So this morning I stayed home from Sunday School - sad because today was the last session for the summer - and we just went to church. We had a visiting Pastor today - which amazingly, I was looking FORWARD to! *nods* Yep! Used to be that I didn't want ANY other minister preaching to me than Pastor Paul... but NOW, while I do still LOVE to hear my Pastor preach, I also enjoy someone different from time to time! Pastor speaks eloquently - and he almost always speaks to my heart - but still - I know God will speak to me through whoever is on the pulpit! And today it was Rev. Aurelio Magarino -- a most delightful Hispanic gentlemen who we had to really REALLY listen to in order to get his message! But if you DID listen closely, you were rewarded greatly!!! He gave an awesome sermon on taking care of our own personal ministries. On not NEEDING to go to another country to be a missionary... that our mission IS right here. It was something that I need to hear - OFTEN! I spend a lot of time wishing I was in Africa, or Haiti, or Venezuela ministering to people who aren't my family! But he (and HE) reminded me that MY family is in deep need of ministering!!! Anyway... I enjoyed it. I enjoyed him! I hope he comes again sometime!
Boy, this got long. I didn't intend it to be like that! LOL! I'm off to the laundry room now! The dryer is beeping at me! (again!)
Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt -- Emotions
Join the blogroll. Visit participants.
Today's Theme: Emotions
I searched and searched through my archives for a photo that I had actually taken to use for today... but there was just nothing there that could even come close to depicting the emotion captured in these 3 shots. For my regulars, this is a repeat -- but it's worth repeating. These were the photo's my daughter took when they gave me the news that I was going to be Luz's Nana! It was ON my 50th birthday, and she brought me a gift bag with a card inside. All it said was "It's a girl!" I can still tell you the exact thoughts for each picture taken!
1st - We're gettin' a BABY!!! (and for a brief moment - I wondered from which kid!)
2nd - I'm gonna be a Grandma! YES!!!!!
3rd - Oh Dear Sweet Jesus, Thank you! Thank you! THANK you!!!
I was crying real tears -- but they were the most JOYFUL tears I have ever cried in my life!!!
IF You Came to MY House...
is hosted by Tom
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Annnnnnnnd once again, I found THIS meme over at Barbara H's place! This one was too much fun to ignore! ( I must say SHE is a waaaaaay better hostess than I am! )

IF you came to my house...

You MIGHT see...
a "We've Moved" sign in the front yard -- if you come unexpectedly! If you give us one week's notice, you will see a freshly painted front door with some really snazzy adornment on it! But if you only give me a couple of hours notice, you will see my dirty, scratched up, door - because it is in desperate need. (it WANTS to be replaced with a beautiful WOOD door with an oval sketched glass window... but that's not happening... yet) The interior, of course, follows suit to the exterior. Unexpected = Expect MESS! One weeks notice = neat, clean, tidy! A couple of hours = "I HID as much as could! Do NOT look in the bedrooms!"

We'd probably feed you:
Yes! I'm certain we would feed you. Do you prefer McDonalds, Wendy's, Arby's or shall we order pizza? ... ... ... Ohhhhhh okay. I'll cook for you then. I will probably make either chicken in wine sauce, with pasta & asparagus, or Dennis will cook London Broil on the grill, and we'll do baked potatoes with a salad. I'll make a yummy FATTENING dessert too -- but I haven't decided which one yet.

And offer you this to drink:
You can have anything you like... coffee, tea, milk, water, orange juice, diet pepsi, diet coke or mountain dew. Dennis will be happy to share a beer with you. If you like anything harder than that, I'm afraid it's a BYOB house! Occasionally I have a bottle of wine on hand - but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you! Of course, WITH proper notice, anything can be arranged!

We'd undoubtedly ask if you'd read:
Did you want to speak with ME? Or with Dennis? WE would be interested in anything from the Bible to Popular Science, Evanovich to Grisham, Home Renovations & Woodwork to Pottery & Cooking ... Just don't ask about Headline News!

We’d want to play this music for you:
Since I love PRAISE music, and he loves 70's rock oldies, we would probably settle on some country music playing low... or maybe my celtic tunes... Of course, if Luz is here that day, you'll probably just get Kid Tunes!

We’d want to tell you the latest about:
The adventures of Little Luz! (what else???) But we'll kindly listen to your tales of children or grandchildren too!

We’d probably suggest a game of: Scrabble or Shanghai Rummy! (however, I would love to learn Bridge, if you know how to play!)

We might show off: *Dear Lord help you!* We would most certainly show off the multitudinous creations of our very own making -- 21 years worth of them! (all dusty -- unless given proper notice!) And Dennis will want to show you his garage!

We might get on the computer and show you: No! We would not get on the computer and show you ANYthing! IF you want to see some pictures we'll pull out the family albums... but honestly, we feel the 21 years worth of creations is all the boredom ANYone should have to go through! We're also certain that you spend enough time on the computer at YOUR house! And I certainly spend more than my share of time on it when you are NOT here! (and I've already shared all the BEST family pictures with you anyway. ) Let's just visit!

If it was a long enough visit, we might watch: The sun set down by the river... or the Eagles fly around their nest... or the deer come up from the back field at dusk, looking for a fresh azalea to eat.

What would a visit to your house be like? I HOPE it would be more "inviting" than a visit to MY house!!! LOL!

Thursday 13...

Thursday Thirteen
in which
we learn are reminded of Things about Melli
beginning with...

1. Toothless. Okay, not entirely - but nearly. Despite that, I still have a Ten:Twenty appointment with the periodontist today ... to have my teeth cleaned! Dentally speaking, there is NO justice!

2. Teacher. Well... not a certified teacher - by a long shot! But I did spend 11 years as a Sub. (should I have used that last week for "s"?) TRUST me... subs still get to wear the badge! We earn it!

3. Team. I never played Team Sports as a kid. But none-the-less, I am ON a TEAM this week! Friday night I am on the First Lutheran FLASH! That's my team for Relay For Life ... only really it isn't... on account of it's a roll-over team from last year, and I'm the only one that's a newcomer this year - and the only one that's actively participating! Sooooo, I was absorbed by First Lutherans other team -- which is comprised entirely of cancer SURVIVORS! Except for me! I'm NOT a survivor! (and I don't really wanna be!) But I am happy they let me on their team!

4. Tempestuous. SOME people say I can be a bit tempestuous -- but I don't think I really am. When I'm not properly dosed with my antidepressant -- THEN things can get a little ugly. But as long as those numbers are good, I'm pretty even tempered. (i think!)

5. Theatre. I absolutely loooooooove to go to the theatre! NOT the movies, mind you! But the theatre - where plays and musicals are performed! There is just no better entertainment! And I even enjoy the High School plays in the county! I'm probably the only person in the audience who doesn't have a child in the play! Or even a friends child! LOL! I go to them all if I have the chance! But going into DC for them is even better! I've never seen a play on Broadway... I would LOVE to do that! (and I hope it's WICKED!)

6. Trustworthy. I believe I am trustworthy. Certainly when it comes to keeping secrets I am! I don't tell ANYthing! And I think most people trust me to do what I say I will. I try really hard not to let folks down.

7. Trains. Dennis and I both love trains. Mostly the old steam engines. Not that we wouldn't travel on a new train ... but we just like the ... ambiance of the old ones. And the dirty stinkin' black smoke pouring out! LOL! (actually it doesn't stink...) These old old trains are few and far between anymore, but we are very fortunate to have a rather nice one only about 2 hours from us... up in Cumberland area... I took him for a ride on it for a Christmas present a few years ago. I'd like to go back up and ride again. They do a dinner mystery ride a few months out of the year. I think we'd like to try THAT one time! Maybe with another couple... that'd be fun!

8. Talent. I have a few talents... at least other people SAY I do... I have some things that I do think I do fairly well... some hobbies. I like to re-finish furniture. And I sew. I dabble with drawing - but my stuff is all cartoonish -- I can't draw ANYthing realistic. This has always driven me crazy! But... my mind just doesn't work that way. I have written some poetry that even I know is really quite good. But I have also written some that is sooooo bad!!! My family used to encourage me to write "stories". They thought I should be published! Friends used to tell me I should be published. The only people who didn't think I should be were the PUBLISHERS! I have come to the conclusion that I'm not MUCH of a writer! I might be entertaining to some... but I'm not "sellable!" ... and really - that's okay!

9. Tease. I love to tease! Only in a verrrrry playful manner - and generally it means that I really REALLY like you and am "comfortable" with you... so, if you feel I've been teasing you -- it's a GOOD thing!!!

10. Text Messaging. This is a relatively NEW phenomena by which one is required to own a cellular device (no longer called a phone - just a device!) that is never actually used for vocalizing with another human. My children have all MASTERED Text Messaging... and they think I should too! I am getting pretty good ... I think. But they seem to feel I am still in the dark ages! *sigh* ( I keep telling them I am OLD - but no - that's not allowed! )

11. Tall! (this is sO funny!) I am NOT tall - by any means! But when I asked Krysti for a T word that describes me - this is the one I was assigned! I argued with her and pointed out that 5'3" is generally NOT considered tall -- but she said that I am "taller than Krysti", and therefore, I am tall! That's logic I just can't reason with!

12. Travel. I'm not crazy about flying anymore -- but I still have the Travel Bug! I want to travel and I want to SEE the whoooooole entire world! I don't want to miss out on ANY of it ... but it appears I'm ever only gonna see a teeeeeen weeeeeny portion of it! This is just soooooo sad. God made this whOle big beautiful, amazing world... and I only get to see a blip of it! I don't care WHAT Walt Disney says... it's NOT a Small World!!!

13. Tenacious. This is one of those words that was created just for me. OR this was a gift that God gave me? For better or worse. I am one of those people that if I BELIEVE something to be right or important or necessary or whatever -- if I believe something is the RIGHT thing to do -- even if everyone else involved is against it, I will NOT let go! Sometimes I think this is the main reason I have never been called for Jury duty - I would be the one causing a hung jury! I really would. IF I was not CONVINCED of a persons guilt... there is no one this side of Heaven that could make me vote guilty! And if I WAS convinced - I'd never vote innocent!

A Needle in a Haystack ...

Have ya ever gone searchin' for a needle in a haystack?

If ya have, then you probably knOw that the best way to find one...

... is to not LOOK at all!

Sometimes the best way is to just happen upon it...

And that was just what happened!
Look Nana! A pretty PINK flower!

I can have it???

Oh wait a minute!

There's one for YOU too!
(mmmmmmmelt my little heart!)

Around the House...

Today is the last day I have to get things done before Uncle Joe comes. Carpet Man is coming to install carpet in the Amazing Overnight Guestroom we're producing! It won't be much! A blow-up matress on the floor -- but HEY! They're comfortable! At least it will have brand new and pet hair FREE carpet! (the old carpet is a long story best saved for another day...) ANYway... we've been meaning to do this anyway because eventually (now sooner than later) we want to move Mom into this room because it's on the lower level and she won't have to deal with steps! (except on Bath days - which will give her one more reason to despise me on those days!) Anyway... Carpet Man cometh! I've been promised he won't be here until at least noon - so I had planned to run some errands in the morning - but that will now NOT be happening, as my trusty SUV decided it wanted NEW BRAKES today! Why is it you can tool along, tool along for a long long time and then all of a sudden in ONE day your brakes start GRATING like nails on a chalkboard and you can't stand it! Did they grate the day BEFORE yesterday? No! Yesterday? By the time I got to Annapolis to babysit Luz, I thought I was going to DIE! And I still had to get back home again! OY! So I get home and ask Dennis (cuz this is how you DO it at my house) "Honey? When was the last time I had new brakes on my car?" ... to which he replies "I'm pretty sure it was just last year." ... to which I reply... "Unh-unh! No way. But you can take it out for a ride. I think it needs new brakes... " Soooooo he takes the keys and hops in and drives it up to the circle and down to the stop sign. He comes back to the circle, does a few times around, stops at the top of the driveway, gets out of the car, looks UNDER the car, gets back IN the car, comes down the driveway and into the house, and now he's AGGRAVATED! "Your brakes are SHOT!" Hm. Now mind you... I'm supposed to be getting a new car, but he and God and the dealership manager all talked me out of buying the one I wasn't entirely thrilled with - remember? And I've given up looking because I hate car salesmen. (okay I don't actually HATE them... that's much to strong a word... but I do not care to deal with them under any circumstances any longer - okay?) But Honey is going away this weekend -- he's driving Uncle Joe back up to Pennsylvania (after Uncle Joe drops off Mom's car to us -- which by the way means that in just TWO days we will HAVE another set of wheels -- but not in time for me to babysit Luz on Thursday!) Soooooooo Honey talked to Mr. Mechanic and Mr. Mechanic said suuuuuuuuure he could put new brakes on my SUV today -- and so last night we dropped it off and today I'm without a vehicle - with or without brakes! Which -- if you've been paying close attention, means that I have ALL DAY to put MORE clothes back in my closet (I'm washing every bloomin' item before it goes back in there!) and to get bathrooms cleaned and floors scrubbed! Didn't I JUST do this a few days ago??? Maybe Mom will vacuum! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!!! (well... sometimes she does like to push it around...)

Y'all have a great day! I'll make time to come around!

I found this UNnamed Meme over at Hootin' Anni's place the other day. (But I noticed last night that Grams has done it also!) You know me and a meme... and this one's a doozy! So... I'm not taggin' anybody... but play if ya feel like it - and let me know if ya do!

In your ENTIRE life, have you ever...

gone on a blind date?
Nooooo. I'm surprised I wasn't talked into it though...

IF you've been around my blog for a long time, you know that I was NOT an easy teenager... and yes... I skipped a LOT of school.

Only a pet.

Nope. When do we leave?? (I WAS just across the water from it though!)

Yep! Not crazy about them anymore... but I will still fly for the sake of GETTING SOMEPLACE!!!

been lost?
*whew!* Have I ever! When you're trying to get from Minneapolis back to St. Paul, and you end up in Osh Kosh, you knOw you're in trouble!!! (true story!)

been on the opposite side of the country?
Nope! When do we leave???

gone to Washington, DC?
Does being BORN there count? Yes... I lived there until I was 9, and the only time I ever lived "very far" from there was when I lived in Minneapolis! I go to Washington on a regular basis!

done something you told yourself you wouldn't?
I am CARETAKER to my M-I-L! That was certainly NEVER supposed to happen!

No. You see, one would have to actually CARE about their grades in order to have a desire to cheat... I didn't start caring about grades until I was in my 30s!

made prank phone calls?
OY! My bestest best friend in high school and I spent many many hours making prank phone calls in 9th or 10th grade.... but we called one house where the guy actually PLAYED back! Of course we remembered the number and called it again a few nights later! We actually ended up making FRIENDS with the guy! PHONE friends. I think it was like the preliminary to blogging! A Perfect 10! ... and Project Blue

So, Little Luz Estrella had her gymnastics recital yesterday! And because I am an OH SO PROUD Nana, YOU get to see alllllllllllllllllllll of her grand accomplishments! Let me start off telling you that in her FIRST session of gymnastics, she was a wee bit behind the other children... she had to do a little catching up! But in THIS session (only her 2nd) she was the leader of the pack! The instructor kept calling on HER to remind the others how things were done! *gloat*gloat*gloat*... (see me beam!)

She can BRIDGE!

And she can creep...

Backward tumbles are a piece o' cake!

THIS stuff is a little more tricky...

But she DOES it, let me tell ya!

Her instructor says she is SO strong!

During her first session she never did get this bit
about dropping on her butt and standing back up -
but she got it now!!! And demonstrated!

And she can drop and go into a forward roll!
What a GIRL!!!

Rollin' rollin' rollin'....

A big slide to the balance beam!

She earned her medal!

Ta DAAAA!

Mommy & Daddy are SO proud!
(and so is Nana!)
