There's something about fonts that is just so fascinating!
My whole life, I've loved looking at handwritten samples and digitized fonts, whether they're beautiful and symmetrical or undecipherable chicken scratching. Some of the most vivid memories of my childhood include choosing fonts (almost ALWAYS Copperplate Bold) and Word Art (the rainbow one!!) for PowerPoint presentations, and my Standard 5 Class Teacher, Encik Bolhi's gorgeous and distinctive writing on the chalkboard.
Apparently, my own handwriting is so unique and recognizable, some friends know that pieces of mail are from me just by looking at the written address labels :p
They say a person's handwriting reveals a lot about their personality, so much so that there is a whole practice devoted to analysing handwriting called graphology. As we type more and more, and write less and less, digitized fonts sort of 'stand in' for our handwriting. Just like handwriting, I reckon our favourite fonts say a little about us too.
Unless you work in a creative industry, it's probably unlikely that you've given much thought about what font you type with. In most situations, people either use the default Arial or Times New Roman or what have you because they don't have a choice or the default is the most optimal for their purposes... which is why I'm glad I have this little outlet for me to unleash* my inner creative beast that's crying for attention and dying from neglect.
(*Subject to the limitations of the Blogger layout options... I'm not that canggih yet.. drama got lah)
Also absolutely delighted with my easy access to stunning typographical images on Instagram and Etsy. YESSS INTERNET. Over the past year, my interest in typography and calligraphy has peaked almost solely because of Instagram.
Last night, I embarked on a little project that required me to find new fonts... and I found a treasure trove.
AN ABSOLUTE TREASURE TROVE.
And then today, I found another... HOW THE HECK did I not know that Google had its own
Fonts Directory?! HOWWW???
It actually inspired me to write this post! I could have just posted the links... or you know... kept it to myself, but 1. sharing is caring, and 2. I just couldn't keep still. Haven't been this excited in weeks.... please entertain my quirks :D
As shallow as it is to admit,
I live for the aesthetic
