socks and hat for Haley Mae

I just finished knitting my friend Carlita some socks and a hat for her new baby, haley Mae, born Nov. 8th. Of course the socks are too big and the hat is too small, but baby should be able to wear them both at some point, just maybe not together. You can see Aubry modeling them below. I'm using this blog as a knitting journal because I've never kept track of how i knit things and i end up starting a hat three times trying to get the sizing right. So i'm starting with these. The hat was made with Kersti, double stranded 44 sts cast on size 9 needles and it'll fit a newborn, so about a 14 inch head. itty bitty. Then I used superchunky cashmerino to do the body of the hat in seed stitch - my first attempt at that. I love it. The socks were also made with Kersti on size 5 needles and are way too big for a newborn. They will fit a 6 month old i'm guessing. But could be worn as shoes over a pair of socks.

Texas Clay Festival

My friend Laurel and I and our kids went to the Texas Clay Festival in Gruene, TX this weekend. It was pretty amazing. I bought some stuff and might end up collecting from this particular potter, Daphne, at Pine Mills Pottery in Mineola, TX.

Love Beads wall quilt from the Modern Quilt book

This quilt is from the Modern Quilt book by Weeks and Ker of Funquilts. I didn't actually piece in the circles, I wish I had, just to learn how to do it, but then it would have made the background fabric look funky, so I would have done a different background fabric. But i enjoyed making it and I think it looks great above our fireplace. Geoff doesn't like it but too bad! I'll probably replace it with something he likes at some point but for now... it stays.

splat

So I was thinking about creation. When I think about the people that I know and how wonderful some aspects of their personality are I imagine that when God created everyone (let's say he made everyone at the same time) it was as if there were a bunch of blank canvases all around him and he exploded all over them. So, we'd all get pieces of who God is on our canvas but I might get a little more of this and you might get a little more of that. But in the end, we are all made in his image. When I see Grey do something so cute and charming I see that he's a reflection of God. Aubry will soon by doing new and different cute and charming things that will show me a little bit more of who God is.
