Memorial Weekend

Wednesday, May 27, 2009

We had some great weather this memorial day weekend and spent most of the time outside. Saturday we went hiking up around Tumalo Falls. The kids had a great time. They spent an hour just throwing rock into the river above the falls. Caden and Ellie are great little hikers. Max is a little slow but loves it. He doesn't want to be carried or put in the backpack. It is nice to be able to get out and do things. Bend is such a great town with so many hikes, falls, rivers, and parks nearby. Sunday, we took and evening stroll in Drake park. There were lots of little ducklings and gosslings out which were so cute and fun to watch. Then Monday morning we went to Lava Lands for some more hiking. It is a cool place to visit. Its amazing to see all the lava flow and the view from the top of the butte is amazing. We had a little BBQ later that evening and got out the kiddie pool and squirt guns. Ryan's exact words were "This is the life". I started laughing and said "what is the life? sitting in our backyard and watching the kids run around. " He said that, warm weather, and good music (he had brought the speakers outside). I guess we all just excited about the long, warm, lazy days of summer and being able to get out and do camping and hiking every weekend.

The Fence

Tuesday, May 26, 2009

Ryan has been working hard putting up a fence in our back yard. It took a couple of saturdays and some evenings to get it done. It looks great, all we have to do is stain it. The kids have been loving the warm weather and being outside with dad while he is working. Here they are enjoying some popsicles after a dip in the kiddie pool. It is so nice to have them enclosed and it makes our backyard feel bigger because there is more usable space. This is one of our many outdoor projects this summer. Next is to add more grass to extend the backyard to where our fence is. This also means expanding our sprinkler system. One of the great things about Ryan is he can do just about anything.

Mother's Day

Sunday, May 10, 2009
Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful mother's out there! You all truly inspire me and are great examples.

I had a great mother's day weekend. On Saturday I was treated to a delicious breakfast at the McKay Cottage. Then Ryan started building our fence which I have anxiously been waiting for.

Today the kids showered me with gifts, hugs, and kisses. Ryan got me signed up for Snap Fitness and the kids got me new workout clothes and headphones. I am pretty excited to start a new fitness routine. I will spare you the details but it is much needed.

Ellie and Caden also got to sing to me in church and the primary gave out cute magnets with the kids picture on it. I loved every minute of it.

Also on Friday Caden's school hosted a mother's day tea party. All the moms came for a nice brunch of quiche, fruit, muffins and cookies. Miss Mindy really out did herself as usual. Caden painted a flower pot with his picture on it. Then all the kids got up and told the moms what they love about them. Caden's was I love my mom because she works for me. It was really cute.

Ellie's class is also having a tea party for the moms but it is next Friday since they had a field trip to the Farm last Friday.

It's great to be a mom and I am so thankful for a wonderful husband and 3 beautiful children.

Happy Mother's Day!

Farm Program

Ellie's Kindergarten Farm program was last Thursday. All 5 kindergarten classes got together to sing songs then each class did a performance. Ellie's class read Cock-a-doodle-do Barnyard Hullabaloo. Each student had a reading part. They did very well. Here is a sampling from the evening. Ellie is the 2nd from the left. She is dressed up as a black and white horse.

Young Authors Night

April 30th was Young Authors night at Ellie's school. All the students in the school showcased their writing and shared it with those that came. Ellie had some really good stories. One about a unicorn and another about her dad. It was a very fun evening and I got to listen to a lot of stories from Ellie's class, ates as well as from other kids I know in the school.
