Round and Round

The girls are finally feeling better. It has been a long week! Work has been crazy busy for me but I have 15 work days left until I am on vacation for 8 weeks. Woo-hoo!

Thought I'd post a video of the girls. Watch Riley start making herself dizzy towards the end and Alyssa just keeps twirling in circles in the background.

I did what in the bathtub?

Sibling Rivalry

In an attempt to not be outdone by Riley who barfed up her dinner while getting out of her high chair tonight, Alyssa tried to compete by letting a floater loose in the bathtub. Atleast she was nice enough to wait until her sisters were out of the water. It could have looked something like this.

I know the blog has hit a new low with all this talk of snot, barf, and poop. Let's hope we are back to clean and pretty topics soon!

Snotapalooza

We're pretty much covered in snot over here. Riley and Makena have been at it for four days and Alyssa's snot factory nose just kicked in today. You know your kids have hit rock bottom when the highlight of their day is to watch the snot bubbles pop after they sneeze. They think it is hysterical. Me, not so much.

I'm off to go do some disinfecting and change into a new shirt that is bound to be covered in snot by dinnertime. Fun times!

What's in a name?

Riley and Makena get mistaken for each other every once in awhile. I’ve done it even when they are standing right in front of me. Alyssa does this all the time and it cracks me up. When she looks at pictures of the three of them, she will point and say “Two Ri-Ri’s”

Riley is now letting people know who is who. Yesterday, I was helping Alyssa go potty and I closed the bathroom door to prevent her nosy sisters from unraveling the roll of toilet paper and splashing a gallon of water from the sink onto the floor while I was busy helping Alyssa. When I closed the door, Makena was standing at the door trying to get back in. A few seconds later, the banging starts. Pound-Pound-Pound! Pound-Pound-Pound! In my calmest mommy voice (yeah right), I asked Makena to stop banging on the door and reminded her we would be out in a minute.

From the other side of the door I hear, “This Ri-Ri”
I wonder how long it will take them to figure out they can blame things on each other?

Get it straight mom.... "This Ri-Ri"

6 word memoir meme

Angie tagged me for this Meme, and I can't say I came up with the most creative 6 words, but I found it was hard for me to sum it all up with so few words! The Meme orginated over an idea that was prompted by the book written by Larry Smith and Rachel Fershleiser, Not Quite What I was Planning: Six Word Memoirs by Writers Famous and Obscure. It's a compilation based on the story that Hemingway once bet ten dollars that he could sum up his life in six words.

His words were- For Sale: baby shoes, never worn.

Here are the rules:

1. Write your own six word memoir

2. Post it on your blog and include a visual illustration if you’d like

3. Link to the person that tagged you in your post and to this original post if possible so we can track it as it travels across the blogosphere

4 .Tag five more blogs with links

5. And don’t forget to leave a comment on the tagged blogs with an invitation to play!

These tiny miracles changed me forever.

Now it is my turn to tag...

Wednesday barf and random toddler talk

I started this post last night about random things the girls are saying these days, but have to cut it short because I have a barfer on my hands. Lissy has a flu bug that hit her when she woke up from her nap today. She threw up a couple of times before I got home from work and then christened me with vomit as soon as I walked in the door. Poor girl wanted to eat snacks and dinner despite her disagreeable stomach and managed to keep a little down. Let's hope this doesn't spread through the house. Anyone know of a good carpet cleaner or home remedy to get the barf smell out of the carpet? The Resolve carpet cleaner I have is doing a HORRIBLE job of masking the smell.

And onto the random toddler talk..............

As the girls are starting to talk in sentences and expand their vocabularies, sometimes I am surprised at the things they say. And of course, I am realizing just how much they repeat things they hear from the adults around them. A new phrase in the house is "Oh my gosh!"

Yesterday after dinner it was time to throw my dirty girls in the bathtub so I opened the gate at the bottom of the stairs and holler that it is bathtime. The girls come running with Riley in the lead. She heads up the stairs and then stops and looks back down at us and says, "Come on kids!"

They also remind me often that I have a "big stinky butt" while they have "little stinky butts."

Tryin' to beat the heat!

The girls and I spent the afternoon in the pool with family and friends. We always jump at every opportunity to get out of the house. We are very lucky that my brother lives right around the corner from us because we spend lots of time hanging out. And we're even luckier that his neighbor has a pool!

Our afternoon entertainment included my brother demonstrating the "lobster luge"...an up and coming competitive neighborhood sport. This should fit right in with beer-pong this summer!

March for babies 2008

We had our walk for the March of Dimes today in the 100 degree weather. My dad came out to walk with us, which was a huge help since Steve has been working non-stop all week. BF Jess and Ly and their families joined us too!

Grandpa (my dad) with me and the girls

BF Jess sucking down her Starbuck's that she can't go a day without!

Ly and Alani trying to get a picture with the girls (who wouldn't turn around)

The girls stripped down so they could enjoy their snow cones!

Lissy posing in front of the fire truck

The firemen hosed the crowd down and BF Jess ran underneath the water with Evan and Lissy

Our NICU survivors...my girls who were born at 25 weeks and Evan who was born at 27 weeks.

The girls found their way into a jumpy house before we made the trip back home!

Happy Birthday to the McNulty Quads!

Last Saturday, the girls and I attended a birthday party for our quad buddies who turn 2 years old today! The kids jumped their hearts out, flew down the slide in the jumpy house more times than I can count, munched on pizza and topped the day off with a cupcake. You can't ask for more fun than that!

Gen and Conor are amazing parents to Russ, Ally, Molly, and Libby. If you haven't found their blog on your own, stop by and wish the quads happy birthday! Gen is a fabulous mother who I admire very much. She is a mother who approaches parenting with grace and humor and always looks at the bright side of every tough parenting obstacle.

Here are my monkeys

The birthday crew (Molly and Russ facing the camera).

The best part about a birthday is the cake! My girls required an outfit change when they were through.

Makena fell asleep within 5 minutes of leaving the party. She is my only kiddo that will sleep in the car!

Happy Birthday McNulty Quads! We hope you have a funtastic day!

My girls

I had to write a few thoughts about my sweet girls as this Mother's Day comes to an end. Even though there are days like today when I want to pull my hair out while eating mass quantities of chocolate and crying my eyes out because of the constant whining, fighting, and misbehavior from the 3 of you, I always find myself in awe of you when the house settles down for the night. You are growing up so quickly before my eyes and I am honored to be your mommy.

Miss Makena....you are an interesting mix of daredevil and shyness. You have no fear when it comes to climbing, jumping and hanging off of play equipment or furniture, but in the next moment you may be clinging to my leg if we are in a crowd or among strangers. You have certainly become quite a mama's girl lately and we spend some quality time together snuggling on the couch every night. You are quick to holler "No, my mama" at Riley or Alyssa if they get to close to me during your snuggle time. You are fond of getting into mischief and will usually take off running when you get caught. Your cute trick of the moment is wiggling your nose up and down like a bunny or flaring your nostrils!

Miss Lissy Bear....you have become quite vocal lately of your dislikes, which drives me insane at times because when you get into a mood, it is hard to break you out of it. I call you "opposite girl" sometimes because you'll ask for something or a certain activity and as soon as it is given to you, your response is "NO!" More recently, you have started to ask to go "night-night" when you are upset and spending some alone time in your crib will often calm you down. I hope this is a sign that you will never have a difficult time speaking up for yourself as you get older! You also have such a sweet, caring manner. When you see one of your sisters hurt or crying, you will ask to "hold sissy." Your crib looks like a toybox, because you are always bringing something with you to bed and you don't like it when I try to clear things out. I was startled awake by "Tickle Me Elmo" laughing his a** off over the baby monitor last night and realized you must have rolled into him while you were sleeping. Your cute trick of the moment is when I come to get you from your crib and remind you that you have to leave your binkies in your bed. You quickly pop each binky in your mouth and suck on each one as if saying goodbye to your friends!

Miss Riley....my happy-go-lucky girl! You are usually joking and acting silly and I'm sure you will be the life of the party as you get older. You are the most articulate of the group and make great observations of the world around you. Your sensitive side comes out when you get in trouble or when something scares you and the crocodile tears will flow. Your daddy likes to push your buttons sometimes just because you are so predictable with your reactions. I always look forward to putting you to bed each night, because you always say something cute and charming as we give our goodnight kisses. Your cute trick of the moment is giving me a pat-pat on the back when we hug goodnight while saying, "pat-a-pat."

I love you with all my heart girls. I know that I'm not a perfect mommy and that there are times when I lose my patience. But, I wake up everyday feeling blessed that you are mine and looking forward to all the new things you will teach me.

Sorrow and Joy

Mother’s Day is bittersweet for me. It has been 15 years since I celebrated this day with my mom. Her death has left a hole in my life that will never be filled. Having children of my own makes me miss her even more. I miss her laugh and her easy-going attitude. I like to believe that I inherited a lot of her qualities. The most important being a love for family. Growing up as a child, there was never a shortage of hugs, kisses and I love you’s. My parents separated when I was very young, but they always maintained a caring and respectful relationship towards one another. As an adult, I admire how they kept whatever issues they had between themselves.

My mom loved to read and she was an awesome cook. She used to whip up some killer twice-baked potatoes and I used to love it when we had breakfast for dinner. She was a petite 5 feet 3/4 of an inch tall and by the time I was a teenager, I had surpassed her in height. I always admired my mom for her strength and independence. She was loyal and honest and always put her children first. In fact, I was born one day after her 26th birthday.

My mom battled leukemia the last year of her life. She was in and out of the hospital undergoing chemotherapy. For a short time, we hoped the leukemia was in remission, but it came back. Ultimately, she had a stroke at home and passed away in the hospital.

My mom would have been thrilled about being a grandmother to 5 beautiful girls. It makes me so sad that they will never know her because I know they all would have had such a special relationship.

I am so lucky to be a mom and I can now find joy in Mother's Day again. The girls have been working hard the last couple of days (with the help of nanny Mariya) to make some special gifts for me, which I received two days early. Lucky me! They started with a vase that they painted themselves.

And then they moved on to more mouth-watering goodies!

Goodies that they couldn't help themselves from taste-testing while they were making them.

At least I know that everything passed through a quality inspection!

When I got home from work on Friday afternoon, I was greeted with three eager little girls shouting "Happy Momma's Day" over and over. And then I walked into the house to find my treats waiting for me.

And I couldn't be more thankful about my beautiful daughters.

Happy Momma's Day!

Fashion Statement

It's starting. Little by little, the girls are starting to make choices about their outfits. Today it was black socks. But they had to be pulled up high or else it was no good. Maybe she was channeling her inner 70 year-old and hoping to hit Hometown Buffet for the 5:00 p.m. early bird special?

Cuatro de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo celebrations were a day early in our house. The day started off with a trip to Costco to buy a new vaccum and iron. We are such party animals! And then we decided to venture out and take the girls to a restaurant for lunch.

Steve and I have figured out that we have to keep the food coming in order to keep the girls happy when we go out to eat. If they finish their meals before we even get ours, we ask the server to bring out a bowl of ice cream for them. So far, it has worked like a charm. That, and inhaling our food as quickly as possible before they do too much damage to the joint! We finished lunch and made it home just in time for nap (mom and dad included)!

Lissy was the first one awake from her nap so she helped me fold clothes.

After nap time, we headed over to my brother's house for margaritas and carnitas...YUM!

My oldest niece, Katie, and three of the neighborhood girls make my life so much easier when we go to my brother's house. They play with the girls so we can relax with the adults a bit. I'm sure we have some future babysitters in this group!

Riley is now scootering on the tricycle. I think this girl may be part of a circus show one day. I was able to get a quick video of her in action. And beware if you are in her path...she'll roll right over you!

We ended the day with Strawberry Shortcake. It didn't really go along with the rest of the menu, but the girls loved it!

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

She's got the moves

Any Seinfeld fans out there? We might have the next Elaine in our house...
