Preschool Meet And Greet

Last night we had my family watch Grace and Georgia so Robbie and I could spend some one on one time with Gwen and take her to meet her preschool teacher(s). She is so stinkin excited!! When we got there she was a bit shy at first but she went to color and from there she was fine. She did playdough next, and then roamed around the room looking at all the toys they had: many different sets of blocks; legos; cars/trucks and a car mat (one of those little mats with roads and buildings on the mat and the kids drive the cars over them) for the floor; baby dolls/dress up; a kitchen area with tons of toy dishes, food and a toy kitchen; a mini table in the kitchen area to eat pretend meals; puppets puppets and more puppets; a reading area with a reading mat on the floor to sit on, a rocking chair for the teacher and so many books; water work areas; art areas; places to review days of the week, time, colors, shapes, etc.; and a cubby that while shared with another child (Gwen only goes on Tuesdays and Thursdays so we're thinking that the person she shares with goes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays since there were still empty cubbies open) with her name spelled out on a purple puzzle piece as a name tag. She just loved all of it and went from one toy to the next, just exploring. She has one main teacher named Christina and then there are 3 other "teachers" that are there to help teach and watch the kids. They all seemed really nice and I got a bit of a laugh when I realized that I had actually gone to high school with her main teacher Christina (and I recognized her). She was a year or two ahead of me but I still knew her. It made me feel a lot better to meet everyone and get an idea of who they were and how things were laid out.

Gwen was the tiniest one there. There were other tiny kids but she was the smallest by far. It made my heart ache to see how much she differed from the other kids because I have never really noticed it before but I am sure that it will not keep her from doing anything with the rest of her classmates. Her preschool program is through the town's Parks and Recreation system and is located in a park with a fenced in public pool right next door. So during the summer they get water time (there is something like the splash park in rexburg there) and at all times during the year there is a huge park right out back. We took Gwen out to look at everything in the park and let her play for a bit so she wouldn't throw a fit when leaving the preschool room. She keeps asking when we are going back to preschool and is disappointed that she doesn't go back until the 3rd. We are going to try to sit down and have a talk with her about right and wrong; listening to her teacher; temper tantrums; and the oh so important stranger/special places on our body talk before she starts preschool. The class is small and with all those teachers I don't think it'll be an issue keeping an eye on all of them but since she'll be gone all day long 2 days a week I think that it's important to talk about things with her. I am also going to have Robbie give her a blessing the night before her first day just like my dad did with all of us on the night before our first day of school each year. I think it will help her and hopefully help me be at peace when she is gone (am I being a bit paranoid...worrying too much?).

So I will post photos on her first day of school, but she is oh so excited!! We have the backpack (which I guess she really doesn't need, but might to tote things back and forth since she's only there two days a week), the lunchbox, the sleeping bag (for naps) and change of clothes. She's all ready to go!!

7 Months Old & Family News

So here's what's going on with us right now:

We are currently living at my parents in Essex Junction, Vermont and trying to spend as much time with Robbie's parents in Rutland, Vermont as possible. It's a two hour drive between the two so it's really not bad, and we love being able to spend time with both of them. We actually went down to Rutland this weekend for Robbie's Nana's birthday party and spent the weekend with his parents.

Robbie is still continuing the job hunt, but so far...nada. He is still applying like crazy to everything he can find. He spends at least an hour (sometimes more) in the bedroom every morning just searching for jobs all over the US and applying for them. When we were in Rutland our first week back here in Vermont Robbie went to talk to a company a little south of Rutland that he had worked for right after graduating high school. They said that they had talked about hiring someone new but had to discuss it some more. We found out almost 2 weeks later (when Robbie ended up calling them because they never got back to us like they said they would) that they are not going to hire anyone until Spring 2010. That was a bit of a downer, but then Robbie ended up having an interview with a company here in Vermont that is working on a Ski Resort for the next few years an hour and a half north of my parents. Robbie had the interview almost 2 weeks ago, and we were supposed to hear back from them last Tuesday or Wednesday. Robbie ended up calling the guy about it on Friday and still hasn't heard anything from him. I'm not sure what to think about it, but I've pretty much lost hope that this is going to be the job for us. I don't think it's good that we still haven't heard anything and the guy won't even call Robbie back. So he's doing his best and we are hoping that something will happen soon. Meanwhile Robbie is keeping his options open and looking for other solutions (something part time?) and trying to keep busy with outdoor things and us.

I have been busy these past few weeks with cleaning, unpacking and organizing our stuff (and we went to pick fresh blueberries and raspberries with my parents...yum!). I haven't had much opportunity to do other things but I have enjoyed just relaxing once in a while and watching the kids play. I have had more time to read and do things with the kids since we are living with others and while I do help out and clean/do dishes and still do our laundry, I have loved having more time to spend with the kids. I am hoping that since I have most of the unpacking done now I will be able to spend time on the projects that just need a little finishing and starting up the quilt that Robbie got for me to do back in February. I am also excited to spend more time with family and more time outdoors since the weather hasn't been nice enough lately to do much (too much rain...Rutland even had flooding when we went down there this weekend).

Gwen is getting so big. She is so close to moving into a 4T size clothes...her dresses and shorts all seem rather small for her, but her shirts still fit pretty well. She is learning so fast and loves spending time with all of our family, especially my sister Traci's kids Aidan and Mae (Aidan is turning 6 in 2 weeks and Mae turns 5 in the beginning of November). Gwen has a meet and greet with her preschool teacher on Thursday and she goes to preschool for the first time on September 3rd. She is so excited and keeps talking about how she is going to "high school" (because we have been teasing my sister Missy about going back...she'll be a sophmore this year) and we correct her and tell her about preschool. Her preschool is through the town's park and recreation center so it's not too structured. There is a lot of learning but a lot of playing outdoors and exploring hands on as they learn too. My sister did it when she was in preschool and loved it, and the program works closely with the local school district so it should be a nice balance of structure/learning and playing.

Pretty princess on her horse

Grace is still being mistaken as the older child because of her size. She too is moving up in clothing size to a 3T. Her and Gwen are so close in size that we still have people asking us if they are twins. She is getting so smart!! I can't believe the things that she has picked up in the last few weeks. I feel bad for her because she won't have her playmate as often thanks to Gwen going to school, but I will have some one on one time with her while Georgia takes naps and that'll be nice for the both of us. I have also promised her that as soon as Gwen starts school I will start potty training her, since she is 2 now. She has been bugging to start potty training because she wants to be just like Gwen and wear her big girl princess underwear and gets so upset when I tell her she can't because she doesn't know how to use the potty yet. I am hopeful that it will go better than it did with Gwen and she'll pick it up fast.

Serious brain freeze after a lot of ice cream

Georgia is 7 1/2 months old now!! I missed the 7 month marker earlier this month, but can you blame me? She is finally moving into the 6-9/6-12 month size in clothing. I weighed and measured her this morning and she is 18 pounds (digital scale...shows ounces too!!) and 27 inches long. She is getting so big!! When we went down to Rutland this weekend after being gone for 2 weeks Robbie's parents couldn't believe how much she had grown!! I haven't started baby food with her yet (I know I know...I am such a slacker) but I am hoping to pick that up tomorrow. She sits up by herself all the time and can not only go from sitting to laying on the floor but she can also be laying on the floor and move herself into a sitting position. A week ago she started army crawling and now has that down. Every now and then she figures out how to crawl on her hands and knees but it surprises her each time and she falls over and goes back to army crawling. I am all right with that because it is how Grace learned how to crawl at first as well. She is still blowing raspberries and growling at everyone, and still saying the ma ma ma and ba ba ba noises. She'll talk to people, loves to jump (in her jumper and while someone is holding her), likes chewing on blankets/burp rags, loves playing with paper and knows how to put her binkie in her mouth by herself. She is also trying to figure out how to pull herself up into a standing position while holding onto tables/couches/laundry baskets/etc. I can't wait to see what else she learns in the next few months. Who knows? Maybe she will be walking by 10 months just like her sisters. Only time will tell!!

I want to thank everyone who has been so helpful and supportive while we are going through this difficult time. We have some amazing friends and loved ones who have done so much and continue to do so much for us. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. We are so blessed to have such wonderful people in our lives (and a wonderful Savior and Heavenly Father). For those of us going through a rough time as well, we are continuing to keep you in our thoughts and prayers too. Keep an eye out for more updates!!

The Great Escape

Two weeks ago my parents took our family and my siblings (the ones currently living at home) and my sisters friend Brian to the Great Escape in Lake George, New York. It was about a two hour drive to the park and half way there Grace threw up all over herself. She must get car sick because we had been driving on the back roads and they were pretty twisty and hilly...like riding a roller coaster. Thank goodness I had the good sense to pack extra clothes for each of the kids so she had something to wear when we got there. I also got to use my wet bag (I'll post about that later...I am not completely finished with it yet) for the first time...I stuck her nasty clothes in the bag and zipped it up and didn't have to worry about getting her nastiness all over the place and having it stink up the car while we were in the park.

The girls had so much fun at the Great Escape!! They rode on so many rides that I can't even remember all of them. They had a little area at the back of the park that is called Wiggle World (The Wiggles on Disney Channel) that we went to first. The girls got to drive the big red car, ride in Dorthy's Teacups and fly an airplane. After we left there they rode on cars, motorcycles, dinosaurs, more airplanes, swings, rollercoasters, trains, boats and every other ride you can think of. If it was a kiddy ride, they rode on it. They also went on the Merry Go Round and loved that. They got to take a ride with "Cinderella" as well in her pumpkin and I think that was the highlight of their day. Towards the end of the day Grace couldn't hold out anymore and ended up falling asleep on the big train ride (for kids and adults) and took a nap. So until she woke up Gwen went on a couple more rides and we ended up in the Looney Tune section of the park (all kiddy rides) and put Gwen in her bathing suit to play in their "splash park." Grace eventually woke up and joined her, and we spent the remainder of our time there (because it was a really hot, muggy day and who can resist playing in the water when it's like that?). It was a lot of fun and Gwen is still talking about it. It was great to have the chance to go there and let Grace actually go on some rides because last year when we went to Lagoon she was either too small for the rides or she just wouldn't go on them because she was scared. Hopefully this is something we will be able to do every year with the kids, where ever we end up (oh, and check out this wild squirrel we saw by one of the kiddy rides...just taking a break to relax in a weird way).

Postings Postings Postings

So I finally got all caught up on the postings for graduation, the move to Vermont, and what has happened since. Take a look, and if you want to start from the beginning, scroll down to Robbie's graduation, begin there and enjoy!!

And It Starts...

I was getting the girls dressed for church this morning and put Georgia on the floor. She was so tired and didn't like that at all. I had given her some toys as well but that didn't matter...she wanted her mommy. So she rolled onto her tummy (she can do that now as well as sit up on her own from laying down on the floor) and started slowly army crawling towards me!! It was a really slight crawl but she did finally make her way over to me. She hasn't done it again since then but it was amazing and we're sure that it won't be too much longer until our little girl is crawling all over the place. Who'da thunk? : )

Rochester

So the day after we got to Vermont we repacked our car and headed back down to Rochester, NY to visit Robbie's family. Just like with my family in Pittsburgh, it has been 2 1/2 years since we had seen any of them, and any of them had seen us. They were having a family reunion that weekend so we thought it would be a perfect time to go and visit them. We got there around bedtime on Friday night and just kind of hung out and got ready for bed.

Saturday was the day of the reunion, and because we were all so tired from staying up late with the kids the night before, we slept in a little. And even though we had slept in, and didn't have a whole lot of time before the reunion started, we decided to take the kids to the Rochester Zoo. They had a lot of fun there, especially when they saw the seals and elephants. I think those were the best part of the zoo for them. We saw tons of animals and they even got to ride on a "train."
Watching the Seals.

Looking at the Elephants.

So much happier in the stroller than in the baby carrier.

Riding on the train.

After the zoo we went back to Rob's grandma's house to change into bathing suits, ran to Walmart to get "floaties" and went to the family reunion. One of Rob's mom's cousins was holding it in his back yard, and he had a pool, hence the bathing suits and "floaties." Gwen and Grace couldn't wait to go swimming, so we got them ready right away. Gwen swam for a little while with Robbie, then decided she wanted to get out. I took Grace over just as Gwen was getting out, and Grace got in with Robbie. I convinced Gwen to get back in with me, and wished I hadn't. The pool was freezing!! We were only in there for a little bit before Gwen again decided that she didn't want to swim any more and we got out. They never got back into the pool but they sure had a lot of fun that day. We went back to Rob's grandmas to relax and spend some time with his brother Richie and everyone else before bed time.

On Sunday we left around lunch time to begin the drive back home. It poured most of the way...at one point it rained so hard that we had to slow down in order to see out the windshield. So it was slow going for a little while but wonderful to be in that big of a rainstorm again. It was wonderful seeing everyone again and we'll be back down there for Thanksgiving when everyone we missed will be there.

Multiple Postings

Because so much has happened over the past few weeks, I will be trying to put up a post or two a day to get all caught up on what went on. So, if you keep up with my blog as I post new things, then you'll see them day by day. If not, scroll on down to Rob's graduation and start there. Enjoy!!

2 Years Old!!

2 days after we started our cross country journey, Gracie had her 2 birthday. She is officially 2 years old!! The morning of her birthday I sang Happy Birthday to her over and over again and she kept telling me "No...no my birthday." My family all sang Happy Birthday to her during the day and she still said it wasn't her birthday. Silly girl. We had a little mini birthday party at my grandparents in Pittsburgh for her, but she still wasn't sure what to think. Much thanks to everyone who remembered her birthday and got her a present. She's gotten gifts from various relatives through out the trip, but we still have not gotten her gift for her yet. I would like to have a birthday party at my parents so my sister can include her kids so it may be another couple of weeks but she won't notice if we are really late. Happy Birthday to my sweet Grace Marjorie!!

Sitting Up!!

So I don't know how she did it, stuck in a car seat for hours on end, day after day, but right before we moved and during our move Georgia learned how to sit up. She no longer topples over after a few seconds. She can sit there for minutes to an hour and just play. She's also figuring out how to get onto her back/tummy to roll around from a sitting position, and she's learning how to push herself up from the floor into a sitting position. She's not quite there yet, but she gets half way there. She's also been teething the past few days (during our trip to Rochester) and learning how to wave. She says baba and mama now, and I know that most of the time she is just saying the sounds, but the other day she was watching me get her a bottle and said "Mama Baba" and when she is playing on the floor and wants my attention she'll turn her head to look at me and say "mama" over and over again until I respond (and then she stops). I'd like to think that mama is her first word, but I'll wait a week or two until I know for sure. She's getting so big and I can't believe that she's almost 7 months old!

Sitting up so big!!

Day 6 & 7 Of The Cross Country Exodus

We left Pittsburgh around 1 pm and headed north to New York. We stopped for the night on the outskirts of Syracuse and we took the girls swimming in the hotel pool. They weren't too sure about it and didn't really enjoy getting in and swimming but liked it when Rob and my brother Matt jumped in and splashed everywhere. They slept all right that night...not great, but all right.

After breakfast the next morning we headed to Vermont. Right before entering Vermont we stopped at a gas station to feed Georgia and realized that they had Dunkin Donuts. Well, I have never gotten used to Krispy Kremes. Never really liked them. So when we saw Dunkin Donuts we had to get one. Oh, yummy yummy boston creme donut. So wonderful. : )

We got to Rob's parents around noon and started unloading most of our stuff. It didn't take too long because most of the stuff we were unloading here was just going straight into storage. After that, my parents took off with the rest of our stuff for their house, and we will be going up there to take care of it all this coming Friday. We stayed down in Rutland to spend time with his parents and to go back down to Rochester, New York to visit with Rob's family down there that we haven't seen in 2 1/2 years. We are back in Rutland now staying with Rob's parents and starting on the job search. When we go up to my parents this Friday we will continue to search for work to bring in some money while we continue applying for a job that Rob can actually use his degree for. It was a hard trip and this is even a harder time for us, completely relying on our families to support us and our kids, and it really brings the spirits down. I continue to try and have faith that this is where the Lord wants us and that a job will turn up and we can finally get on with our lives, but it's hard to have hope when it's been six months since Robbie started the job hunting, and he's only had one interview out of over 100 jobs he's applied for.

Even though we are back with family we will continue to post about things going on for all our family & friends that live far away. We continue to keep many of you who are searching for a job (just like us) in our thoughts and prayers. We miss all our friends out west and we will keep in touch. It's good to be home!!
