Smith Family News

Dear Family,
It has been awhile since we last posted, but it has been been busy for us. I am can't believe that it is March already.
We enjoyed the rain last month. We hope to get some more or it will be a long summer. The Governor ("Governator") just announced that California is "officially" in a drought. So we are now on a tight watering restrictions. I haven't watered yet, but we should soon I suppose.
Katelyn is doing well in First Grade and she really enjoys it. She is looking forward to Soccer season but is not sure. She is now considering Gymnastics. This is a 180 degree turnaround from last summer when this sport was suggested to her and she replied "I don't want to go to China".
Jordan just finished his Mission Report on San Juan Bautista Mission. This is a big project for 4th Graders. All students are allowed to select a "Mission" from the California and provide a brief synopsis about its influence in California History. In addition to a report, they are suppose to recreate a diorama of the Mission. Jordan decided to recreate the Mission using Legos. His teacher was quite impressed and commented that it was a first. I recommended the Arizona Tempe Mission, but that was not considered a part of California History.
Tyler is enjoying sixth grade. He just completed the Winter Flag football Season. Some of those games required great dedication, since they had to play in a downpour accompanied by cold wind gusts. burrr... It was fun for him and had to miss a couple of games due to sickness or Scouting Activities. One such activity was sleeping on an actual World War II Submarine (USS Pampanito) in the San Francisco Bay.
Ashley is about to wrap up the 2008-09 Soccer Season. They are now playing indoor soccer and will be participating in a Reno Tournament at the end of this month. Ashley just recovered from a cold/flu that began last weekend.
Tyler and Ashley also were part of the Stake Roadshow. It has been awhile since I was involved. The last time I was part of roadshows were when we lived in the Richfield 11th Ward.
Tyler and Ashley's roadshow was based on the theme "The Right Stuff". Their roadshow was on "Camp Text-aholics" It was cute. Kim and I assisted backstage and with the Props.
Kimberly is doing well. She just completed a trip to the Church Cannery to replenish and add to the current food storage.
Loren's Work has been busy and that's good in this economy. The Scouts just completed their Pinewood Derby. Again, the Smithkids failed to placed in the top spots but they still enjoyed working on their cars. Loren participated in Church Basketball this year. It has been at least two years since he last made this attempt. Loren is finally coming to the reality with his age and now has to spend the day following basketball nursing and recuperating from his playing.

Grandma's February Update
The temple has been closed for two weeks and most everyone went home or on vacation but it was too cold and stormy in Pioche so I just stayed here. It will open again on Monday and will start attending again.
I have had six new great grandchildren announced for this year four close in Aug and Sep and one in July and one in May so it will make me about seventy. Wonderful!
We have been doing Humanitarian Work and that has helped and am grateful for the company and visits so do come again.
My friend Ruth Belingheri died and was buried in Pioche today and Bonnie and Shanna took me to the service and I was so glad to be able to go and was able to visit my friend Martha Bleak in the hospital in Caliente.
Jared's Kyana broke her arm and had to have a pin put in it but is doing well and Kristen had an emergency appendectomy in Ireland. She said there were sixteen in the ward they put her in so she was glad to come home and is doing well.
I will go home probably in April when it gets warmer and maybe a couple of days in March when it is warmer
I have seen some good programs at the tabernacle and the BYU ballroom dancers (excellent)
St George is a wonderful place to be, and I have great friends and loving family here.
Again Happy Birthday to all who had birthdays and anniverseries.
My love to all and may you all be happy healthy and keep your jobs in these trying times. Let us Follow the Prophet, Keep the Commandments, be Prepared, and not fear.
My love to all,
grandma

Grandma's January Update
Some way my Blogs got moved and I can't find them. I can't believe January is almost gone. I have done lots of temple sessions and loved that. I have been to several programs at the tabernacle and had a wonderful Stake Conference We are going to "Singing in the Rain" tomorrow and to the BYU Ballroom Dancers next week so will enjoy that.
Linda and Eb are doing wonderfully well in Germany and enjoying it there. Tai is teaching at the Communitiy college in Salt Lake and loves it. Tara and Danny have taken their children to Hawaii for a trip.
I have so enjoyed Kirsti's report from Cambodia. She writes so well and makes everything so much fun. She is great.
I am excited about the new babies expected; that will make four new great grands for me.
Happy birthday to all celebrating birthdays and anniversaries.
I send my love to all
