Memorial Day Weekend

The boys with Grandpa and Grandma Richards
The boys with Great Grandpa and Grandma Alexander

For Memorial Day, our original plan was to go camping. Then we looked at the weather and pictured ourselves sitting in our trailer while it rained or was super cold. We still wanted to do something fun and get away, so we went to Utah to visit Dustin's family. We got in late Friday night and Saturday we went to visit Dustin's dad and step-mom. We hadn't seen them for a couple years so it was good to catch up and the boys had fun getting to know them.

Later that night we had dinner with Dustin's brother and his family and his Mom and step-dad. The boys LOVE their cousins and were so excited to see them. They had a great time. Sunday we went to church and then Dustin's brother and family came over for dessert and they were going to pick Britton up for a sleep-over. Unfortunately, the kids were playing in the back yard and thought it would be fun to throw rocks over the fence into the neighbors yard (and when I saw rocks, I mean small boulders. The small rocks were the size of baseballs). Well, Britton ended up breaking the neighbors window and that ended the sleep-over plans. The kids had to go over to the neighbor's house and apologize and clean up the yard. Plus, Britton will have to pay for the window. It was a bummer of a lesson to learn.

On the way home tonight we stopped and visited my grandparent's grave site. The boys love cemetery's. We want to go back and clean up the site. We didn't have a shovel or anything like that with us, but we'll be sure to bring them next time we visit.

Dinner conversation

Preface: We have one plate with a small chip in that we still use, and Dustin had the chipped plate tonight.

So tonight at dinner we have the following conversation:
Britton: I wish mom had the chipped plate
Dustin: Why do you wish mom had the chipped plate?
Britton: Because she never plays with me.
Dustin: Mom plays with you all the time!
Britton: But she doesn't play with me outside.
Dustin: Mom does a lot of things for you and it takes a lot of time, so she can't always play with you. Can you think of some things that mom does for you?
Britton: Mom is like my servant. Actually, mom is my servant.

Yep, my kids think I'm their servant. Well, at least the oldest one does. I think we need some changes around here....Dustin thought it was way too funny, and had to turn away so Britton couldn't see his face before he turned back around to tell him that I am not a servant!

A Happy Mother's Day!

Mother's day at our house started on Saturday, which was birthmother's day. We texted both of our birthparents and thought about them because without them, we wouldn't be parents. We are grateful for their love and sacrifice that allowed us to be a family! Sunday, Benjamin stayed home sick from church so I got to go to church with just Britton and watch him sing mother's day songs for me. He did great!

We got to talk to all of the many mothers in our lives and go to dinner at my mom's house where the men cooked a yummy dinner and then cleaned up. The boys decorated my present by drawing pictures for wrapping paper and Britton made the cutest book about me in school. He really does pay attention because he got everything just about right! Our boys are too cute and I love being their mom! Here is what Britton's book for me said:

My Mom's favorite food is: white milk
But she doesn't like: chocolate milk
The thing my mom likes to do for fun is : exercise (so not true but I love the picture he drew of me with big muscles)!
My mom helps our family by: cleaning
My mom helps our family by :Making decisions (the picture was my favorite. He drew a picture of me and then wrote blah, blah, blah coming out of my mouth).
When my mom daydreams, she things about: Me!
She spends most of her time doing: washing our clothes (sad, but true).
If mom could have one wish come true, she would wish for: A baby

Britton really knows me! I was surprised by how well he answered the question. I had a great mother's day! Every day I think about how lucky I am to be a mom, but it's nice to have one day where everybody gets to celebrate motherhood!

Happy 6th Birthday Britton!

Doesn't he look so big?
Benjer in the Kiddie Cove
Britton's new basketball hoop! Thanks Grandma Shirley and Grandpa Kurt!
Blowing out the candles on the air craft carrier cake (yeah, it looks like a tank).
Lego Star Wars!
Mouse Trap!

Today is Britton's 6th birthday and the anniversary of the day we became parents. Time has gone by so fast and I can't believe that the little (well, he was never really little) baby we held in our arms is now the big 6 year old we have today. We love having Britton in our family. He is smart, funny, athletic and a great big brother!

Yesterday we celebrated Britton's birthday with grandparents and let him open his presents. He was so excited and loved everything he got. Today was his actual birthday and Dustin went into work a little late so he could take Britton to school and drop of the Krispy Kremes Britton wanted to take for school to share with his class for his birthday. He got to go home from school with a friend and have pizza for lunch. He chose Chinese food for dinner and then we went to Wahooz to play on the go karts, laser tag, miniature gold and bumper boats. Happy Birthday Britton!
