January 2013

January is such an invigorating month for me as I play catch up from the holidays and organize the house.  We have been busy getting in the routine of indexing weekly with a goal of #600 per month, enjoying fires almost every night to stay extra warm and cozy, birthday celebrations for Ben – 5 and Sydnee – 10 and a trip to Tacoma to see Dan and Val and Rick’s sisters Margaret and Marion.

Sun in California Not

We took a quick business trip to sunny California and only had one day of sun.  Luckily it was the day we drove up the coast to do a little sightseeing.  We went to Rodondo and Hermosa Beach, talk about traveling back in time to the 1970’s.

An old shopping complex built in the 1920’s complete with an Italian fountain, water squirting from the breasts of mermaids. Then a walk on the pier at Hermosa Beach, lots of fisherman and seagulls.

This lucky seagull snatched a sardine freshly caught and swallowed it whole.  The fish was still wiggling in the birds throat as we walked away.  A beatiful glass church on the bluff overlooking the ocean.

Seaside in Winter

Winter at the beach is wonderful when the temperature is *30 and there is not a cloud in the sky.

A visit to Fort Clatsup was fun to see it rebuilt after a fire.  I love the story of Lewis and Clark and the museum. 2013-01-11 13.14.282013-01-11 13.14.37

Our gourmet meals were delicious, cooked by non other than us.  Indexing, reading, movies, walks, shopping, treats and relaxation can’t be beat.

Christmas Week to New Year’s

Christmas festivities started when Travis and Jessica arrived on Saturday the 22nd of December.  We began by having a baby shower for Jessica and baby girl Dyer due in March.  Lots of fun, food, games and presents at the Kellers.

Caroling at the Alberts on Sunday night and then our special dinner and program on Christmas Eve.  The children love to dress up for their parts in the nativity story.  Christmas morning was fun to wake up and have Travis and Jessica her with us.

The girls and I were so lucky to have Christmas Tea at the Heathman hotel in downtown Portland.  The old hotel is decorated and the atmosphere is charming.  Love the hot chocolate, tea sandwiches and desserts.

I love traditions and for many years now we have gone to Burgerville for lunch after the PUD party.  We love the fancy pop machine.
