Out of the Mouths of Babes

I know it's been FOREVER since I've updated. We've been so crazy busy and my new computer doesn't want to let me upload pictures to this blog. I've got to figure out the problem...someday...

Some things we've overheard recently - some are funny and some are jaw droppers bc we had no idea they knew these things! It's amazing how much their minds have expanded over the past few months.
1. Noah: If Peter Pan is fictional, then Santa Claus is too, right Mom?
(Of COURSE Santa is real and if any of you tell him otherwise before he is 7 you'll be facing the wrath of a very angry redhead!)
2. Sam: A noun is a thing, place or a "guy"
3. Noah: 100 is greater than 90. Sam: Well 10 is less than 20. (clearly studying greater than/less than at school??)
4. Noah: This is my book that I made today, I am the author AND the illustrator. It's fiction. (guess that explains how he knew about "fictional" characters...)

Now I can just simply brag? They can write all their letters A-Z upper and lowercase. Noah is reading like crazy and Sam isn't far behind. Noah loves nothing more than writing sentences that includes all his classmates names. They drive us crazy asking us how to spell/read things but it's hard to get frustrated when it's so cool! And yes, they can't go to Kindergarten next year so if anyone has a good idea of what to do with them we'd love to hear it.

And perhaps saddest of all: they are both throwing a nap mutiny today. Sam is a regular mutineer but this is a first for Noah. Ah the times they are a changin....

PIRATES!

We set sail on a Pirate Adventure on Saturday out of Annapolis. Beautiful day for a boat ride and the boys had so much fun they are STILL talking about it.

Sea Dog Sam showing off his mustache and bloody tattoo.
Showing off pirate muscles and learning to speak pirate
(yes Noah's tattoo and mustache are pink) Showing off their loot afterwards.

Before I forget

I have to write this down before I forget it:

Noah went to school yesterday with a "princess" barrette in his hair. Told his teacher he was going to be a woman all day and to call him "Noah W'. For "Noah Woman"

At the Zoo!

Sam's gotten a little cheeky of late - although making faces is much better than mooning us (which he has gotten in trouble for at school recently...)

So excited that Grandma and Grandpa are here for a few days! Tian Tian (pretty sure that was the male panda)

Washington DC

The boys wanted to visit the Capitol so we spent a morning there last weekend. The boys were less impressed with the spectacular architecture than climbing steps and walking on walls...

Teacher Reports

The written comments from their teachers:

Noah:
Noah knows just who he is! He has no problem communicating his thoughts and opinions. In larger groups, he tends to quickly take the lead and give others directions. Throughout class he is always excited to participate and wants to be the first to answer.
Noah has great skills when it comes to problem solving. He is great with manipulatives and during activities when he is challenged to think outside the box. He is usually the first to finish art projects that require in-depth thinking.
Noah easily pieces together familiar words to attempt to understand what's written. He is well on his way to reading. Writing time is always a favorite for Noah as he can usually finish quickly and loves to be first.

Her comments are very diplomatic!

Sam:
Sam works well in both large and small groups. He also works well alone. He tends to choose working in a small group when free time is allotted. Sam is great at listening to his peers and is more than aware of others' needs.
Sam recognizes and can recite and recognize the entire alphabet and the numbers 1-20. He is very smart and easily dissects information during lessons.
Sam communicates everything perfectly. During writing practice he is especially careful to follow directions.

They are so very different from each other. It's a remarkable thing to watch.

Thanks Easter Bunny!

I didn't buy new Easter outfits this year. Lucky for Noah "manpris" are all the rage in Europe and he's just ahead of the curve here in the US. Enjoying the Easter Egg Hunt after services

See the egg behind Noah? He checks to see what's inside, takes the loot and promptly discards the egg...Closing eyes while Noah hides eggs for Sam to find in our yardNicely taking turns! A great surprise today - running into a cousin at the playground! Can any of the Potters identify this little beauty?
