Fall Color with Bob & Laura

A few weeks ago (actually for our 4th Anniversary!) we got to spend some time in the Northeast. We visited Danica's college friend, Bob, and his new wife, Laura. We stayed in a cute little bed and breakfast in Pennsylvania and visited with the Hornbys at their home, Downing Farm, in New Jersey. It was such a nice weekend! Very relaxing. And it was great to see some nice fall color, since we do not get that much in Texas!

This is the view from the top of Bowman's Hill Tower, which we visited after a nice walk through the wildflower preserve. Just down the bend is where Washington crossed the Delaware river!!

Both Bob and Laura work at the McCarter Theatre at Princeton University. This is not the theatre, but we did go see a show. Their work was exquitsite!! The show wasn't bad either.

Princeton has a really nice campus and we spent an afternoon walking around the grounds.

We also visited a stunning sculpture park / botanical garden called Grounds for Sculpture. Here are a few pictures from there.

Laura found a peaceful chair for reflection and enjoying the sunshine!

It's so good to see old friends again and catch up. Even though it has been ten years, it still seems like yesterday... Thank you Bob and Laura for a wonderful weekend!!

Parent's Weekend in Colorado

Danica drove out to Colorado for the second time this summer with the Taylors. We all met up with Danica's dad Denny and brother Denny to spend the Academy's Parent's Weekend together. Dad Denny and Erin found a great house in the mountains where we could canoe, fish, and relax. It was a great weekend!

Marc and Dad readying the boat for some fishing.

There they go! Look at that view! Samuel was the only one to catch a fish. A two-foot rainbow trout that just didn't quite make it into the boat!

The first time we got to see Cadet Candidate Denny J Merideth IV!

Denny & Denny and the US Air Force.

We got to watch Denny play a soccer game. He is number 6, in the middle.

Denny's first meal off the Academy grounds. BBQ Surprise!!

We also saw Denny in a parade in his formal attire.

Dad got us all tickets to the Falcon's football game. Thanks Dad!

Sisters!!!

Samuel got his face painted like Batman. (Merideth did too!)

Merideth tested the water with her little feet...

Here's how Dad enjoyed the canoeing and fishing...

Even the very end of the trip was magical. We got to see hot air balloons on our way out of town. What a great trip!

Summertime

The last month we have been trying to stay out of the heat! And keep up with our busy family! Danica had minor knee surgery about four weeks ago. She is healing quickly and gaining more strength and mobility in her leg every day. We are looking forward to some cooler weather and more visits with family and friends.
We enjoyed the 4th of July parade in Edmond, OK.
The kids had a little water slide fun at the Taylor's house.
Erin looking on and looking cute!
Robert checked out the new Cowboy's Stadium during a U.S. - Mexico soccer game.
We celebrated Merideth's 3rd birthday at our house. Danica's mom was here for her surgery and got into the party spirit!
Merideth was nice enough to share her new balance bike and shoes with her friends!!
Samuel and Jacob tried to wear Robert out 'diving' off the diving board.
Three years old and such a beautiful and special little girl!

Summer Travel

So, we haven't been great at updating our blog in the last two months, but we'll try to pick it up again. Pretty much the entire month of June, we were travelling and mostly out of the country. Danica and Erin took a trip to the Netherlands to see Denny graduate from high school. What a special time for the whole family to be together. One week went by so fast!

Our graduate, Denny J Merideth IV!

He can always make us laugh with his contagious enthusiasm!

The reception was right on the beach. A little chilly, but beautiful, great food, and fantastic company!

Here we are enjoying the traditional Dutch french fries with our long-time family friend Sue.

And here we are enjoying some traditional Dutch ice cream. You've got to try all the local foods, right?!

Dad is great at finding the perfect napping spots!

Robert was in Jamaica for three weeks again for work. It sounds glamorous, but he actually does have to work a lot while he's there and hasn't been able to see much of the island. So, Danica went to visit him for a few days to get him off his all-inclusive resort and see more of the country. It really is a pretty little island after all!
Fruity drinks are a must in any tropical location!
It was hot!
We rode the infamous Jamaican bobsled!
And did a zip line tour. The mountains are just beautiful - green and much cooler than the beaches.
This is a life I could live.....

My Little Brothers

So, we just had to share with everyone how very proud we are of Danica's little brothers. Since they have been living overseas for the last five years, we haven't been able to spend as much time with them as we'd like. But they have turned into such amazing young gentlemen!!!

Denny is headed to prep school for the US Air Force Academy. Danica and Erin are headed back to the Netherlands in June to see him graduate from high school. Hard to believe he'll be on his own in a couple months!

Kristofer is a freshman in high school and has turned into quite the athlete. His rugby team won second place at the national's and Kris helped lead his team the whole way - making brilliant tackles and scoring a try. (We didn't get to watch the game, but hearing people describe his performance is very exciting!)

They are both such an inspiration to us and we miss them and love them so much. Can't wait to see you guys!

European Vacation

Wow! Has it really been so long since we have updated our Blog! Yikes!

We have been on the road quite a bit lately, so we will try to update you on our travels.

First, we got to spend two weeks in Europe! It was a great vacation! Danica got to catch up with many of her old friends and Robert got to go skiing in the Bavarian Alps. We took tons of pictures, so get comfy, grab a snack, and follow us on our journey!

The day we landed, we visited with Danica's host parents. We took a trip to beautiful Baden Baden. The cool air and walking helped keep us awake after not sleeping for a couple of days!

We enjoyed our visit with Peter and Ingeborg so much and we hope to see you again soon!

***********************************************************************

The next few days were spent with Danica's friend Frank. We did a little wandering in the Black Forest.

We saw the cutest little horses! By the way the little yellow sign next to Robert feeding the horses says 'Please don't feed'!

Frank's mom, Inge, treated us to delicious Pflammkuchen in France. That translates into 'flame cake', which sounds weird, but it is mmm mmm good!

Frank lives around the corner from the castle in Karlsruhe (imagine being able to say that!).

It was great to meet Frank's friends and experience a day in his life.

Thank you Frank and Sabin for your hospitality!! (And we hope you feel better! : )

*****************************************************************************

Next stop: We travelled by train from Karlsruhe through Munich to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It is a stunning little town nestled in the Bavarian Alps. Robert went skiing with Dad, Denny, and Kris, while Danica hung out with Heidi to see the sights.

While Rob was skiing, he could hear dynamite being dropped to prevent avalanches! That sounds safe!

Germany has such wonderful foods. We enjoyed so much delicious tea, coffee, chocolate, cheese, bread, and on and on.

And ice cream! Kris polished this one off by himself!

A couple of Denny's friends went skiing with him and kept us all laughing.

We even got to see traditional lederhosen dancers!

Heidi and I and a few other ladies visted one of Crazy King Ludwig II's castles, the Linderhof Palace. It was so extravagant and incredibly beautiful. I think I could live there!

Dad, Heidi, and I came across a tiny, rickety, old gondola and decided to ride it up a snowy mountain one afternoon.

Dad and I didn't really know that Heidi was afraid of gondola rides!!

Next, we took a nine hour car ride with the family back up to the Netherlands. Aahh, road trips!

********************************************************************

We went to the big beach, Scheveningen. It was gorgeous, but I think it would be a little nicer in summer!

Despite the wind and cold, there were a lot of people out and it was beautiful!

Heidi took Robert and I on a trip to Amsterdam. We took a canal bus tour (highly recommended!), which let us see all the highlights of this historic city.

There are so many sights to see in Amsterdam. Here Heidi and Robert are waiting on the canal bus in front of the Anne Frank House and the Neuwe Kirch.

Did Robert's job even follow him across the pond?! (For those of you who don't know, he works for KPMG.)

We spent a day in the Hague, another beautiful city. It was nice to see where Dad works. We visited the Moritz Haus, a small art museum very much worth the stop.

One night we watched Denny and Kristofer practice rugby, but it was really just too cold to be outside for long! Only Robert braved the weather for the two-hour practice. Dad, Heidi, and I ended up inside sipping hot tea!

Is that my 'little' brother with that mini beer?!

****************************************************************************
Next stop: We took another train ride from the Netherlands back down to Stuttgart, Germany where we visted with Danica's host sister Anke and her husband Volker.

Stuttgart is a really neat city. It is very much a meeting of old and new. Much of the city was destroyed during the war because it is a very industrial area. But so much has been rebuilt around what remained.

We visited the Mercedes Benz Museum, which was so interesting. I'm not that into cars, but even three and half hours wasn't enough to see everything. Highly recommended stop for anyone visting the area!

There is a ton of history behind Mercedes. They actually build the first ever engine, so there were prototypes of the very first cars...

Up to the very modern and fancy.

Did you know there are even Mercedes race cars and trucks?!

And I think this is one of Arnold Schwarzenegger's old cars!

Anke took us to the cutest little old town of Esslingen.

Around this town with tiny, crooked streets, part of the original fortress still stands.

And of course we had to go check it out!

The view from the top.

We had such a great time and wish we could have visited longer.

It was so nice to meet you, Volker! And we can't wait to meet your little one!

All in all, our first European vacation together was amazing! Thank you to everybody for helping us make such wonderful memories. You all are the ones who made it so special for us. We hope to see you all again very soon! Love, Danica & Robert
