i’d be lost without you.. but now i’m found, singing your praise..

A C.S Lewis Quote

February 5, 2016

#3 “The safest road to hell is the gradual one – the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts.”

This reminds me of three demon apprentices who were being trained by the Devil on how they might be able to better populate hell.  One demon said “We can tell them that there is no God.”  The Devil says, “No, that won’t work…people know better.”  The next one said, “We can tell them there is no hell.”  Again the Devil said “No, that won’t work, they know better.”  The last apprentice demon said, “I know, we can tell them there is no hurry.”  The Devil said, “Hey, that’s it!”  I once heard the late Adrian Rogers recall an event of a young man who walked up to another man in Chicago and asked him where a bar was at.  The bar was called “The Gates of Hell.”  The man giving directions told the man to go by Calvary Church and just keep going and he’d find the bar.  Here are his bone-chilling words: “Keep on going right past Calvary and you’ll find The Gates of Hell.”  Irony of ironies was not lost on this occasion. Go past Calvary and you’ll be headed straight for the gates of hell and for many, there is no hurry.

I think we get nervous at the thought of losing it all.

Yes indeed we might lose everything in a freak accident. Since there’s nothing we can be too sure about. But there’s the love of God. The knowledge that there’s a God that loves me. He who sent his one and only son who died for me and the love of friends because they are enabled to love by the love of God. This is the testament of love, something that cannot be lost.

Have u ever walked through a really dark forest and all you have is just a torch light? You try to shine it a distance away but the forest ahead is so dense that you can hardly see much. And when you try to look far ahead into the journey ahead, you can’t see where you are, and it disables you to make the next step because you don’t know what you might be stepping on.

So, when you’re in a dark forest, you should shine your light far enough just to see the next step.

Why do research?

It was a cold winter night. The streets were completely dark and I sat next to the fire place. I had too much of a nap in the afternoon and I couldn’t find any sleep. I felt so stifled and encaved that i decided to take a walk outside. I got my torch and an axe and made for the streets. It was too dangerous to wander the streets of this city at night because it is completely dark, but I figured that no one, even those insane, would want to come out in such a cold weather to embrace the dark and lonely street.

I stood alone in the streets and wondered what it would be like if the streets were to be lined with light that would not go out. Some sort of giant lantern that would give a bit of heat and light so that the day would be extended and the streets made safer.

Deforestation

July 13, 2015

Ever had the feeing at a busy street (or mrt platform), where everyone is walking as fast as they can, and they all seem to know where they are going? Especially when you are going to an unfamiliar place and is unsure which exit to go to. You want to pause for a moment to check where you are, or perhaps to look at the map, but you are too afraid to lose out in the walkathon, either because doing so will cause u to end up at the end of the long queue up the escalator behind the slow ah ma, or its so squeezy that you can’t find space to slow down. Or perhaps you are just heading to an exit that no one goes to.

It’s just so interesting to me, the tsk and the dirty look people shoot you when you are walking a different way from the school of humans. Perhaps deforestation is cause by people walking over the same patch of grass over and over again.

Sunglasses.

I observe the surrounding HDB blocks and realised that there are many different kinds of apartment. I look through the window, trying to get an idea of what the people are like.

Some windows are coloured warm with tungsten while others cool with fluorescent. Some are sealed tight with curtains while others are opened wide, welcoming the breeze.

I hope you don’t wear shades. Because i’m curious to know what you are thinking about.

Sign language

July 11, 2015

Once a upon a time, there was a boy who is not able to read signs. No matter how he was being taught, he just could not understand the arrows or the meaning behind the colors of the traffic lights. He wanders and almost got himself killed a few times. His parents don’t know what to do with him but to send him into the desert. That way, he would not get crushed by oncoming vehicles.

Years later, there was a terrible earthquake and all of the people from the city ran away from the tall buildings so that they would not be squashed. They found themselves in the desert, and In this desert, there were no signs, where the terrain is always changing. Everybody felt lost and afraid.

Out of the nowhere, the boy whom they have sent into the desert appeared. He was not angry with the people for sending him away, but pointed the people to a nearby spring. The people were able to have water enough to last though the disaster. In the desert, where there were no signs, the boy knew exactly where he was and what he was to do.

Sometimes we make life too important.

I mean yeah, life is important.. We only got one life to live.. Don’t live to regret.. Yolo..

What I mean is, we make life more important than it ought to be. We get too protective of ourselves. Decisions get too important because we are afraid to lose or loose stuff we’ve accumulated over our lifetime.

Mankind is suppose to explore.

I have been afraid to come out with a thesis because I was afraid that it is not important or not true enough. I wanted it to be of significance. I wanted all my lifeworks and thoughts to be inside and I expect this thesis to help me understand life. But I realize it’s just self centered. And in doing so, the fear stopped me from realizing what I am really interested in.

Interest is such a powerful word.

Though it my seem weak as compared to duty, passion or conviction. It reveals the humanity in you. That little voice that draws you to something that you otherwise don’t have a reason to go to.

Alice’s Incite

June 24, 2015

You see a rabbit running across the forest.. He mutters I’m late.. I’m late.. as he takes out a pocket watch from his waist coat.

You have a moment’s grace to decide what to do. Would curiosity’s drive be enough for you to follow after it? And if so, would it be enough for you to make that decision to hop into the rabbit hole? One which you are not so sure how you’re going to climb back up.
