Being friendly will help foreigners feel more at home

my paper
By reader Ms Tian Guiqing
I AM a 21-year-old student from China, and I find that Singapore is the best place to live in Asia - not only is the city safe, but the greenery also livens up the urban environment.
There are people from all over the world living and working in Singapore, and this is helpful in fostering cultural exchanges.
However, there has not been enough sharing between cultures. People here need to communicate with one another, and learn to understand the social customs and habits of people from different backgrounds.
If we understand and respect people from different countries, it is easier to be friendly with one another.
Perhaps we should start from the basics - with commuters practising courtesy on public transport.
A friendly smile or a hello will be a nice gesture to fellow commuters, instead of being plugged into headphones all the time.
This takes only a few seconds but will go a long way in making the atmosphere in trains and buses friendly and will help foreigners feel more at ease.
-----------------------
1. why would we want to make foreigners feel at HOME?
2. why must we share between cultures? cultural integration takes centuries to accomplish, its not something we can simply check off in a to do list.
3. who the fuck are you to tell people not to listen to music just so we can smile at you and make you "feel more at ease"?!?!? do we not even have the right to exercise freedom of what we want to do?
stupid idiots. just go back home if you don't like the way we do things here. or else shut up and be grateful.

reading nodame cantabile puts a smile on my face. it's funny not because of the exaggerated expressions in comic scenes, but because of the little details that make you chuckle from the inside. the author ninomiya tomoko has probably spent time in the places observing before she could actually capture the details so subtly. i'm now at chapter 101, where nodame and chiaki have already been in paris for almost a year.
not sure if molly remembers that day, or if b and v remember the chicken i bought back to the apartment, but this was exactly what happened to me in paris:

a message for nichkhun from a fan:
khun, stop being so damn perfect.
if you keep this up you will never be allowed to have a girlfriend.
seriously girls will hunt you and that girl down.
GOD, why did you make him so beautiful?
i think it was to hurt us.
i mean you are an eye candy but you are so perfect that you makes us delusional and we get mad at ourselves because almost all of us are never gonna be with you.
but who are we kidding?
LOL.

the only man in my life who is allowed to grow a beard and not shave.
theme song for manga-turned-drama 僕は君に恋をする (oddly enough i haven't read it yet)
that aside, i can't seem to find information about where this video was shot. breath-taking scenery. reminds me a little of scotland.

the olive backed sunbird is a very common species of sunbirds in Singapore. but i think their life cycle is very poorly documented. on 2 separate occasions, they made nests amongst my home plants at the corridor/kitchen balcony. my mom made my family very unhappy by demanding us to take countless of photos and videos of part of the process. one photo turned out pretty nicely which i used it to take part in the sheares hall photography competition.
and they're back! for the third time, also at the corridor. but i have a great view of it right outside my bedroom window. so i got this great idea to document it in this blog as i observe them.
today, the female sunbird came to do a thorough evaluation of the plant. apparently it chose a pretty bare and skinny branch to start construction, and has already entwined some leaves with the branch. it came back and forth for around 5 times, each lapse taking almost 15mins, and each time staying for around 30secs-1min. but towards the later part of the day at 430pm, the bird came at shorter intervals, and chose a new spot with more leaf coverage but still skinny braches and proceeded to manipulate the leaves. but the last time it came at 5.15pm, the bird darted off suddenly. i suspect it could have been because my mom went too close to the window and moved her head for a better look and startled the bird (there's always a limit to the performance of a mirror window)
fuck. now just have to pray the bird comes back again.

From perezhilton.com
apparently after the russians finished this dance routine, they got slammed for being insensitive to the culture of the australian aborigines. the routine was choreographed after observing the aborigines' dancing.
if i were to think of a reason, i would believe that pple got offended probably because they conveniently milked the aboriginal culture, packaged it into a skating routine, used the aboriginal motifs for their costumes, made the bodysuits a little darker, all for trying to clinch a gold by being "different" from the usual elegant/romantic genre. (doesn't matter how accurately they portray the culture!)
but that was some kick ass skating!!!!

Perez Hilton is fucking funny. and YES i say fucking funny because he never fails to crack me up with his "private" jokes i.e. if you have been following tabloids of a particular celebrity, he usually refers back to them when he starts blabbering on her/his latest news.
For example:
Brad Pitt buys more children land
Time to expand!
Sources say that Brad Pitt has bought the adjacent home to his own in Loz Feliz for $1.1 million to expand his property. The 3,232-square-foot, 1920’s key-shaped home has a 0.25 acre lot and boasts a stone fireplace, a huge main room, a bonus room,a bar and a secret cave.
Secret cave? Was Bruce Wayne the previous tenant?!
We couldn't imagine what he would need with MORE space, considering that he already has a five bedroom, 5,760-square-foot house, with an adjoining 1,653-square- foot house, a 1,307-square-foot strip of vacant land, and yet another a 1,534-square-foot house.
Hopefully, it isn't to accommodate MORE children!!! Haven't you had enough, Angelina?

its.another.year.
already??!??
as you can see, it is already the 4th of january. usually i eagerly await the first day of every new year to religiously blog about my resolutions of the year. but now, at 24 pending 25, resolutions to me are just a list of rules in disguise, waiting to be broken.
therefore, this year i shall practice self-moderation, cynicism, and reality checks into this new year resolutions.
these are my new year resolutions:
1. i shall exercise regularly, when time permits.
2. i shall reduce my food intake and my weight, when im not feeling very hungry.
3. i shall do my best in the final design and the dissertation, if my tutors don't make things difficult for me.
4. i shall be nicer and more tactful to people around me, unless they are seriously being a bitch and if i'm not feeling like one.
5. i shall not hunch and will walk properly, when there are people around to see.
6. i shall brush my teeth at least twice a day, if my mouth stinks bad enough.
7. i shall strive hard to graduate well and find a stable job in a firm and try to be a QP. unless i find a better paying job. or unless the firm makes me work ridiculous hours. or unless the job gets really painfully unbearable. or unless...
