Christmas in Lake Charles

We drove over to Louisiana on Christmas Eve to celebrate with Dad and Carson. As always, Carson and Sam entertained us all and now Carson is back in Dallas with us for a few days... pictures from that adventure to come!
We had a great time visiting family and friends for Christmas and we are so grateful for the wonderful gifts! Here's hoping everyone had a blessed Christmas!

Christmas in Lumberton

Our first stop for Christmas was with my mom in Lumberton. We had dinner with some of my girlfriends from Highschool on Saturday night which was a blast! (Sam may disagree since he was the only boy- sorry babe!) Then on Sunday we had our family Christmas lunch with mom. Notice the hats in the bottom picture... for those of you who don't have British mom's, we always have 'Christmas crackers' that we pop with a little toy and a paper hat inside. After we pop the crackers we wear the hats for lunch. I have always loved a little England in Texas!

I finally elfed...

So basically my immune system has been in complete shut down mode lately.... I've had this nagging cough for weeks and just as I thought I was getting over it... comes the sore swollen throat and stuffy nose (not to mention the rash across my neck- sick!). So, I took a much needed sick day from work and caught up on some sleep. (and maybe a little modge podging! ha!)

Since it's been a while I thought I would add a post to my list of things to do today.... so for the latest post, here is my Elf family!

Thanksgiving Trip!

Here are a few of my favorite pics from our Thanksgiving trip to Tennessee. We did lots of relaxing and eating and played some cards, Wii, and freezing cold putt putt. The girls went for a Spa treatment one night- which explains the picture with the white lips... and Kelly and I went on a jog with the purpose of snapping some of these shots (kelly these are for you) And of course, we had fun teaching Maria some new tricks.

Hunky Husband

So, after being tagged by Jeni, I'll gladly tell you about my best friend

The Hunky Husband Survey:

What is his name: Samuel Leroy Swanson (but he prefers 'Slam')
How old is he? 23
How long have you been married? 11 months
Where did you meet your husband? the caffeteria in my dorm my freshman year (sneaky place to pick up chicks Sam! ha jk.)
What was the first thing you said to your husband? It was probably something like "no thanks, I don't need 3 forks" because Sam used to bring about 15 forks to the table in case someone dropped one. Or, maybe my first words to Sam were "no thanks, I don't want a peanut butter sandwich" because after he offered everyone an extra utensil, he offered to make everyone a pb & J
Where was your first date? Even though we weren't boyfriend and girlfriend, we like to call our first date Valentines day 2005- Sam showed up at my dorm dressed up in a tie holding a yellow rose (red would have been too forward right?) and he took me back to his apartment where he had cooked a delicious dinner with sparkling grape juice to drink.
Where was your first kiss? At Sam's apartment in Waco- I drove down to visit him while working at Summer camp after we had been dating about a month
Where did you get engaged? at the Baylor Marina, the same place Sam asked me to be his girlfriend
Where did you get married? The Carleen Bright Arboretum in Waco, Tx
How long did you date? Well, we met in January 2004 and hung out or talked almost everyday for the next year- Sam asked me to be his girlfriend in April 2005 and 10 months later we were engaged and 10 months after that we were married!
Who said I Love You first? Sam- and it was perfect, neither of us had ever said it to anyone else before (apart from the "i love you family" sense.)
Who eats more? Although I can put some food down, this category goes to Sam.
Who is taller? duh
Who sings better? yikes, we both rank on the 'really bad' level. But I love when Sam gets songs stuck in his head because he is so funny when he sings!
Who is smarter? Well, if this was measured by college GPA I would get to claim a victory... but who am I kidding? Sam is so smart! He can retain so much information- ask him any history question, I dare you!

Whose temper is worse? I dunno we may come in even on this one- I think we're mostly laid back
Who does the laundry? Sam! At first, my feelings were hurt but now- oh am I in love with not doing laundry!
Who does the dishes? Half and half... but probably more Sam- it's sort of his grattitude for the masterpiece dinner I've whipped up for the evening
Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? Sam
Who pays the bills? Sam's the man. I used to think I was organized back in college when I took care of all my finances, but Sam is so on top of it I don't even know how to help!

Who mows the lawn? Corey O'Rand. Haha, but come spring time when we decide to invest in a mower, I will be very confident in Sam's lawn care skills.
Who cooks dinner? Me- 100% Sam tricked me with his one fabulous Valentines meal, I haven't seen that talent since.
Who drives when you are together? Sam
Who is more stubborn? My quick response is Sam for sure... but I'm probably just as stubborn but in less obvious ways
Who is the first to admit they are wrong? I'm going to go ahead and say me (sorry Sammer)
Whose parents do you see most? Sam's
Who proposed? Sam- he was perfectly thoughtful and sweet and sincere (and he had the flu poor guy!)
Who as more friends? Well it seems like Sam does since we live near all of his high school friends, but even though I don't see alot of my friends very often- they still count! And, I like to go ahead and count Sam's friends as my own! So I would guess we're even on the friend count.
Who has more siblings? We each have one brother and one sister- but when you factor in husbands and wives - Sam has more
Who wears the pants in the family? I like Sam wearing the pants- and I'm glad that he doesn't insist on shopping at Goodwill anymore.

And that's the scoop on my dream boat : ) I'm not going to bother tagging because the people I would tag, have already done this.

Podge Mania

So, Tuesday night I went with some of the girls for a little arts and crafts time and had so much fun! I always love some social time while making something crafty and cute. I made that Modge Podged NOEL above and loved it and Kelly made the cute M for Maria and we suddenly became addicted to Modging!! So to feed the addiction we started all new modge projects on Thursday night. However... two hours into it, I think we'd decided we'd had enough of the podge for a few weeks! The bottom picture is Sam's re-arrangement, he prefers "LEON" to "NOEL". Anyways... that's our latest :) We're just counting down the days until we can leave for Thanksgiving!

I love the fall!

Hooray for fall weather finally arriving! We have been so busy but we're trying to sneak in times to enjoy the outdoors! Last night we had some friends over to carve pumpkins and then we headed over to Addison for the Monster Movie Mash, we laid out blankets in the park and watched Young Frankenstein (well, I slept through most of it and then we left before the end because it was pretty chilly outside) But, another fun night!

It's been awhile.

Here are a few pictures from hanging around the house with my family. Carson was fascinated by the pond... and yes, he and Sam did wear matching clothes to church on Sunday! Funny boys!

The Fair

Here are some shots from our trip to the Texas State Fair with Dad, Carson and Melanie

We have a house!!

And then we had one car....

She was a good little Civic, she just couldn't handle Sam's mad driving skills. We're thinking about an upgrade... that is of course, after we do that whole home purchase thing. It's always fun to look onto your balcony and see 766-"nigel" . I'm just happy my super Sam didn't get any dents or scratches!

Our one star lodging...

For Labor Day weekend we made a quick road trip to New Mexico with some friends. We had a great time (despite all of the late night driving) and got to see so many beautiful sights! We stayed in a ski resort in this beautiful national forest about 20 miles outside of Taos. This resort is converted into a frisbee golf course in the summer.. hopefully Sam and I play frisbee golf again because it was so fun! The resort was located in a beautiful area and we rented it for only 30$ a night... the downside, as I was reminded by everyone on the trip was that it only recieved a one star rating... So, it was missing amenities such as a bathroom door (they supposed a curtain between the toilet and the room would suffice) and a working AC. But, it was perfect for our purposes and we had tons of fun.
