Today, Oct. 2nd, I went to see Dr. Munton for my back pain. Two weeks ago I had an MRI of my back and Dr. Crumbliss ordered it and then I met with him to go over the results and I left there very discouraged and sad:( He really thought I needed surgery and I was not happy about that BUT I had this appointment with Munton already scheduled so I kept it. I'm glad I did! My lower back is not in good shape because when I was 13 years old, YES, thats right, 13 years old, I had back surgery in Plano, TX at the Texas Back Institute. It was absolutely necessary and it was shocking then and is still shocking to this day that someone did back surgery on a 13 year old but like I said it was necessary! Well due to that surgery I have ALOT of scar tissue around where the surgery was, L5. Now that scar tissue is pressing on nerves which is what is causing my pain. I think also at that same level that disc may be herniated a little but there is so much scar tissue that they cant tell for sure. So what to do? On Wednesday Dr. Munton will do an injection where he will go in and inject some medicine right directly at level 5 in my back and hopefully that will decrease any swelling and inflammation around that nerve and in turn ease my pain or hopefully make my pain go away! He sees NO reason for surgery because when you have surgery that makes scar tissue which is my problem anyway so if I had another surgery that would only make for more scar tissue. Hope that makes sense. Even though I trust Dr. Munton, I still would like another opinion so I will see Dr. Trammel soon as well. It will depend on how well the injection works as to if that is all I will need or if we will have to do something else called spinal cord stimulation therapy (SCS). I wont go into all that just yet:)
I also have had, what I called, hip pain for a while now too. Dr. Munton clarified up today that it is NOT hip pain it is I T Band pain! I have known that my I T band is tight due to running and cycling for a while and I have done stretches and stuff for a while with NO relief and it has gotten worse so I thought something else must be going on BUT the doc. said my I T Band is probably worse because of my back and nerve problems so I will do therapy for my I T Band and hopefully it will all work its way out and I will start feeling better soon!
Thats it in a nutshell:)
