Here I am!

I'm back! Well, kind of. I thought I'd blog a little while my little peanut takes a quick snoozie. Things are going well after somewhat of a rough week last week. Most of you know that I'm pretty emotional; now imagine my normal emotions and sensitivity times 100 and you'll get last week. I was a weepy mess. But we powered through and now I'm feeling much better and more relaxed.
Joey is doing great. We have his second doctor's appointment tomorrow where he'll get weighed again. We miss dad since he had to go back to work on Tuesday but we'll survive :) Joey got to meet his cousins Margaret and Matthew (who is 5 days younger) this week. All in all, things are going swimmingly!
Goal for today: the little one is getting a bath. It's the first time I'm doing it alone so wish me luck. Here are a few pics for your viewing enjoyment:

Joey and Mommy both love the newborn lounger. It came highly recommended by Amy - thanks, Amy!

Here's Joey on Daddy's legs. If you look closely, you can see that Lee gave him a faux-hawk. Poor kid.
Pretty much everyone, even strangers, tells us he looks like Lee. What do you think?

Thank you

Thank you for all your well wishes and congratulatory messages. I'm sorry if I haven't returned an email or voice mail, but I'm still feeling a little overwhelmed :) Free time no longer exists! I promise to try and catch up as soon as I can. I'm hoping we'll be "open to visitors" next week or so but in the mean time, we're all just trying to get used to our new life!

Thanks again!

He's here

Most of you probably heard: Joseph Oscar Sarkis arrived on Friday, October 12th at 5:02pm. He weighed 8lbs, 9oz (less than anticipated) and is 22" long (much more than anticipated).

Of course he's got quite the head of hair and is just perfect in every way. We got home today and we're just enjoying him. I'll tally the results of the baby fantasy league at a later date :)

Time for a quick nap while Joey catches some z's. Pictures to follow.

Baby Day Has Cometh

So it's 5:30am on the day I'm having a baby...crazy to say. My pre-op instructions said I couldn't have anything to eat after midnight except jell0 but I would have to finish drinking all water and eating all jello prior to 6am. So I set my alarm for 5:25 this morning so I could wake up and try and fill up on jello. One problem: jello is gross. Now I'm drinking decaf tea with nothing in it because that's also allowed until 6am. And it's also gross.

I thought I would have tossed and turned all night last night but that wasn't the case. I just hope after my meal of jello and tea I can fall back asleep.

So my bag is packed, our (brand new) camcorder is charged, the car seat is loaded in the car, and I think we're ready to go. I probably won't be checking in for a while so until then, Godspeed!

Pretty Nice Little Wednesday

Still pregnant...which is slightly disappointing because I thought 10/10 would be a good birthday for the lil one. My ultrasound is scheduled for 1:30 tomorrow; and if the baby is still breech, he/she will be making his/her appearance on Friday at 3pm via c-section.

And speaking of "lil", in the words of Kathy Griffin: who do you think is liller: Kim or Jon?

I had a nice lunch at Cheesecake Factory today with one Erin Rickman. It was delish and the company was amazing :)

Some bad news. But I'll manage.

So I got my pre-operative instructions for my c-section yesterday. I've always had a vision that as soon as the baby was born, cleaned off and swaddled, we'd get some great shots of me and the baby, me and lee, all three of us, etc. And because I knew I was having a c-section, I'd be able to do my hair that morning, put on my make-up and not have it all come off during a long and tough labor. Well, think again. Here are some of the instructions:

1. No alcohol, beer or wine for two (2) days prior to surgery. Seems reasonable enough to me.

2. Stop smoking for as long as possible before surgery. Might be tough, but I'll manage.

3. No contact lenses (wear glasses). No problem there.

4. All personal valuables should be left at home. So much for wearing my good luck diamond pendant into the operating room. And Lee is just going to have to do without his diamond cuff links.

5. You may wash your hair. Thanks for the permission, I was planning on it.

6. Please shower or bathe the day of your surgery. You have to say please?

Here's where things start to go downhill fast for me.

7. No jewelry please - this includes any body piercings. Crap. I hope they just don't notice.

8. Please do not wear any makeup including eyeliner, mascara, lipstick, blush, nail polish, lotion, talc or creams. Ummmm, has anyone seen me sans makeup? I can do without the nailpolish but why'd they have to outlaw mascara?! This is NOT going to be pretty.

9. Please do not use any deodorant, hair gel, hairspray products, pins or barrettes. This one is the worst of all. I am ADDICTED to my aerosol hair spray. AND, I routinely sweat bullets. And because I'm giving birth that day, I'll probably be sweating more than usual.

Conclusion: You probably won't see any pictures of me and the bambino until the next day when I don't smell and I can wear a lil makeup again. Sigh. On the bright side: I'm having a baby in a few days!

Euphoric

Why am I so happy, you ask? Because TODAY IS MY LAST DAY OF WORK FOR FOUR MONTHS! Holler! We're celebrating by getting fish fries tonight. Could today BE any better?

Dreams and Aspirations

My goals for this past weekend were as follows: finish my thank you cards and pack my suitcase for the hospital. Reasonable? Yes. Attainable? One would think. Did I get either of them done? NO. Here's why:
Saturday:

Met Kelli for breakfast at the Original Pancake House at 7:15am.

Gorged on scrumptious food till about 9:15am.

Got home...napped.
Got up...went to The Care Connection & Babies R Us. Lee thought we should buy a sling so I bought an adorable sling for us to use when the little one comes. Unfortunately it's a magnet for Sheeba's hair but oh well.

Got home...napped again. Did I mention I got up at 5:30 that morning?

Woke up from nap...Teen Wolf was on and it had just started! Who can blame me? That movie is a cinematic classic! God bless the fact that we get Canadian TV stations.

Got up...actually put off doing my thank you notes by cleaning the house instead. Those of you who really know me understand how ridiculous that is. This involved me doing a lot of directing from the couch because my back hurts like a sonufabitch. But ask Lee, I did contribute some.
Ate dinner (which Lee made)...went to bed (around 8pm).
So much for Saturday.
Sunday:

Got up at 5am (see bedtime night before).

Watched TV with Sheebs till 7am...A & E was airing a "Biography" episode on LL Cool J.
Fascinating stuff.
Went to Tim Hortons at 7am to get "our usual"...which doesn't include coffee for me, don't worry.

As Lee got ready for work, I laid down.

Napped until 10am.

Got up, made the mistake of checking to see what was on TV. AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL MARATHON! Dammit. Sucked in almost all day.

Around 1pm...started the laundry, washing machine was acting up, asked Lee to come home for lunch. More Top model in the meantime.

Lee came home, fixed the washer, then went back to work.

2pm...laid down and napped until 3pm. Missed one episode of ANTM.
Then I did more laundry during commercial breaks. Convinced myself I couldn't pack my suitcase yet because I needed Lee to bring it in from the garage.

Finished laundry around 5pm...Lee came home.

Ate dinner (again, Lee made it) around 6:30, all the while continuing to watch ANTM.

7:30...went to bed...missed the finale of ANTM but that's okay because I've actually already watched this season in its entirety twice before.

And here I am today with a pile of thank you cards to finish and no suitcase packed. So if you haven't gotten a card from me yet, it's coming. And baby, please wait until mom's got her bag packed before you decide to make your descent through the birth canal.

I've revised my goals to finish both items by Wednesday night. I think they're attainable. At least they're more attainable than Monica's goal. Monica revealed to us on Thursday that "her new goal in life is to memorize all the words from 'Bust A Move' by Young MC." Now THAT is some goal! Mon - here's a head start: This here's a tale for all the fellas. Try to do what those ladies tell us.

Ciao for now!
