Taking Off My Shoes Or Plucking Blackberries?

I came across this quote today... I don’t know that I have ever read it before. It struck me that it’s important to recognize in God’s creation... HIM!

We seem to be an adventurous family. One that likes to travel to new places and see the beauty of nature and architecture and new people. Hopefully that was fed as we camped many summers in the mountains when our kids were small.

This past weekend one son was off in Poland visiting Auschwitz (and other stops) while another son was hiking Israel and spent Passover/Easter in Jerusalem. My prayer for them is that they will stop and take in the beauty and grace and forgiveness of the Father through their adventures this weekend... that they will “take off their shoes” so to speak and not just sit around and pluck blackberries. May they be moved by what they have seen, tasted, smelled, and experienced! God is SO good!

For myself, may I not just walk past beauty whether in nature or a person and not discover God. I pray I won’t be found very many times plucking blackberries but taking off my shoes in reverence to the Creator God who loves and gives His son so I might live eternally with Him!!

Hiking My Backyard

One of the great things about where we live is that I have this canyon right in my backyard. It was a beautiful sunny, winter day and I needed to break in some new hiking shoes preparing for our trip to Israel. So I hiked down in the canyon alone and had to use a rock and selfie mode to get this shot!

New Year's Eve Surprise In My Yard...

I woke up and saw these beauties grazing in our yard, grabbed my telephoto lens and started documenting the Aoudad's at our place! Though I've heard they are around, it's the first time to ever see this many of them... so beautiful and in OUR yard! Happy New Year to ME!!

Holiday Season 2018

DECEMBER --

You may or may not know that I'm a tap dancer! Our tap class of adults jumped in on the Christmas performance the dance studio did in a small town nearby -- Canyon. They had a "Christmas on the Square" and the studio was invited so we thought, gee, why not? It was great fun and actually us "older" dancers were quite the hit! Ha! Here we are....

After this little performance the first weekend in December, I was ready to get the season started... this, along with a visit to Neil and family the next week.

Raegan had a play she was in that ran the weekend of Dec. 7th so we decided to fly up and watch a performance. Her mom, older siblings and church youth went on a Friday night so Neil, Rod and the boys went to dinner while I braved the 20 degree temps with the littlest girls to see the lights at the Zoo! As we drove up and saw the place all lit up they squealed with delight and we managed to bundle up and keep moving enough to stay warm.

They loved it and I can see it becoming a tradition for them!  On Saturday, Olivia and I went shopping for her birthday and it was a sweet morning with just her and I together. We also had some fun trying on hats together!

That evening, Rod and I attended Raegan's play. Though she just had a few lines, she has loved being on stage and has the bug I think...

I spent our first day there cooped up in the bedroom wrapping all the presents I had shipped to their place (to save on postage) but they were really pumped to get some presents under that tree! Our time, as usual, seemed really short but we will be back again soon...

Seth had decided to fly in for a few days to see family, so after arriving back home, we picked him up in Dallas and I carted a tree and Christmas presents down to Austin to see Kristin (I even brought along desserts for after our dinner and present opening with Joel that evening :)...
...

We were glad he made the time and paid for a ticket home! Grangran was sure glad to see him and we had an early Christmas dinner with him before he had to get back to Italy.

We also heard from Kyle in Africa and he sent along a picture of his Christmas tree there at the base!

In kind of a last minute decision we made plans to fly to Charlotte and take Grangran to be with Craig's family. She was thrilled and we tried to book it to be as easy as possible (did you know flights on Christmas Day are available on short notice? :)
Rod helped Craig with a project at our nephew and niece's home -- installation of a patio awning. Towards the end it was "all hands on deck" and we wrapped up the finished project just as the sun was going down....

We got to know our great nieces, Ellie and Lucy better and had wonderful food, games, present opening and fellowship together with the whole Craig Schroder clan! It was hard for Grangran to say goodbye.

This wrapped up our crazy busy December and 2018 and I'm so glad to have this wrapped up.
My year ended, though, with a beautiful surprise on December 31st.... next post!

Fabulous Fall Part 2...

Sometimes the ocean (and beach) just calls my name...
In November I got to take a bicycle trip to Florida with about 20 gals! Days were filled with riding and evenings we sat by the pool, ate out, talked and laughed. On our last night we pitched in and paid a group to come build a bonfire and provide chairs for a farewell party. It was lots of fun and laughs and great exercise biking everyday along 30A. I don’t get to see these girls much... mostly on bike trips, but have grown to love them all!!
The girls flew in on Saturday and Kristie and I had lunch ready for them.
After lunch and a quick change, we all took a warm up ride!
Day 1's ride begins with a stop at a spot where they have
church on the Beach Sunday mornings! They were kind enough to
supply sheets for us to sit on since we were biking all day.

We had a neat crew from the bike shop that delivered our bikes where
ever we needed them to be... they were great!
The Truman Show home and area the movie was shot in Seaside.

The beautiful little chapel in Seaside
Day 3 was a long day of riding and fighting the rain but it ends with
a nice dinner together as the rain moves out.
Our last day of riding we all wore our shirts so we could get pics.
I did the design on our shirts and it turned out pretty neat!
Our last night it was a bonfire and pizza at the beach... there were coughing
issues with the "red tide" but we managed to survive!
We had so much fun and I'll miss these gals until we do it again in a couple of years! :)
Sunsets at the beach never get old!
Then it was time to prepare for Thanksgiving. With Rod's mom being a little more fragile than she used to be and my mom gone, we elected to just eat at Pat's dining room where she lives. Our stand alone child... Kristin filled in nicely for all the other siblings and grandkids. We love having her home and are so glad she's close enough to come when she wants (and schedule allows).

That wraps up the Fall... maybe I'll might just get 2018 blogging over with after all (sigh)
