Ray Charles

Rachel likes to wear her sunglasses around the house. She also likes to sit and play the piano. I'm almost surprised it has taken this long to put the two together!

Nap Time

This is one tired girl! She often sleeps like this without moving for 2 hours.

Cupcakes

Over the last couple of months, Rachel has gone to my friend’s home one afternoon a week.  We are so grateful to her for opening her home to Rachel.  It has been fun for Rachel because she has two little girls that are not in school yet that are just older that Rachel.  One Sunday, we were walking down the hall and saw one of the girls and Rachel shouted, “Hi!”  She was so excited to see her friend.  She has also been known to say hi to them in the middle of the Sacrament!  This last Sunday, Scott was walking down the hall next to my friend and her daughter.  Suddenly, someone walking next to me pointed out that the two girls were holding hands while walking to Nursery!  Yes, we take her to Nursery already.  We needed to say thank you to Ariane and her family, so Rachel and I made cupcakes today.

The best part, as with making anything, was licking the beaters!  Rachel has never gotten to lick the beaters before today.  I had cleaned most everything off and just handed it to her to see what she’d do.  We started out with no bib.  When she started drooling, we had to add the bib.

Clearly, she thought the little bit of cream cheese frosting on it was the best thing ever!  By the time I grabbed our actual camera, she had licked the beater clean and was done.  So, again, I apologize as these are all cell phone pictures.

Rylie & Tyson

Rylie and Tyson were able to come up for 2-weeks after Rylie finished Kindergarten.  Since Rachel goes to Nan’s house during the day, she got to spend a lot of time with them!  Here are a few pictures that were text messaged to me during the visit.

They played on the stairs and got to play at the park, among many other things.  One day after they left, Rachel went searching for Lindsay at Nan’s house.  She will be ready for them the next time we see them!

Lindsay was kind enough to bring a preschool t-shirt for Rachel.  She brought it to me the other day with the headband on her head.  This was the result!  She loves this headband and will take it off to see it, then give it to us to put back on her.

Gardening

Sometime in May we got our garden planted.  We didn’t think to take the camera with us for a number of reasons.  The biggest reason was probably the fact that we had our hands full with plants, shovels, and Rachel.  We planted tomatoes, tomatillos, zucchini, squash, and lettuce.  Rachel was such a big helper!  In this picture (cell phone because we had our hands full), you can see she is thinking about where to put this tomato plant!

A couple of days later we went out to see if anything had grown and take some pictures.  Rachel remembered that she can play in the dirt in the garden and was quick to put her hand and shovel in.  We have to tell you that the first time she put her hand in the dirt that week, she exclaimed, “YUCK!”  This didn’t stop her.  And, no, we did not teach her that dirt is yucky!

Another reason we went out to the garden was to spread our egg shells.  Each year we save egg shells to spread around our tomato plants so that they don’t turn black.  This was a perfect activity for Rachel to help with!  We brought our cottage cheese container with us.  Yes, it is a 3-lb cottage cheese container that I ate all by myself in less than 2 weeks.  I do not normally eat cottage cheese, but have been eating it constantly during this pregnancy.  Scott and Rachel won’t touch the stuff so I am left to eat it alone.

Rachel enjoyed spreading the egg shells and made sure to get every single tomato plant (12), as well as the tomatillos.

After spreading egg shells, we planted our carrot and bean seeds.  Rachel made sure to study the seed packet for us so that we knew what to do with our seeds.

Rachel even planted a bean seed.  It’s the “white tic tac” in the dirt in the center of the picture.  Unfortunately, we don’t have any pictures of it past this point because it didn’t grow.  Everything else in our garden is doing well and we are just waiting to harvest now!

Naptime

The Easter Bunny brought Rachel this small pink ball and she has taken it with us so many places!  She has learned to not let go of it while we’re in the car because she has to wait until the car stops for me to help her reach it.  One day, she had been playing with it, but naptime was fast approaching.  She crawled up on my lap to snuggle with me instead of going to sleep and brought the ball with her.  Because Rachel has never wanted to miss a thing, she fought sleep while sitting on my lap.  I needed her to take a nap that day for some reason, so I helped her put her ball away before we walked into her bedroom for nap.  When Rachel realized where we were going, she quickly turned around to grab her ball.  She was so tired I figured she would be asleep pretty quick.  Sure enough, this was the result!
