Shopping!

The girls got a little bit of money for Christmas. As with most girls, Rachel could not wait to go SHOPPING!! With the snow that recently fell and Rachel's discovery at how cold it is, there was a desire for snow pants. We took the girls to (what some call "the best store ever!") Smith and Edward's to see what they had. Rachel remembered having been there before and knew exactly where the toys were. She even took us there after looking at the snow pants. If you know how big this place is, you will understand how amazing it is that she remembered our last trip almost 6 months ago! Once we got to the toys, the girls each chose something they pretend to already have!

Stick ponies! They ride them around everywhere. I asked one of them to go get something from their bedroom. It was a simple task that could not be completed without saddling up first! They even make galloping noises, which of course has us in constant laughter as we watch for someone following behind with "two coconuts and he's banging them together!" We were able to find snow pants, too, but they couldn't show those without showing the horses, too.

In addition to the stick ponies, Rachell found something else she wanted. Her current favorite princess is Rapunzel. I had seen these magnetic paper dolls several months ago but forgot to pick one up when I was doing my Christmas shopping. She was so excited to see it that she asked for it, too. I knew it would be a hit when I saw it and I was right, or "correct" as Rachel has started saying. Don't worry...she can easily carry this around while riding her horse!

Cookies in bed

I was awakened this morning by Alexa at my bedside ready to play. This is not an uncommon occurrence, but this morning she was serving me cookies in bed!

A Very Merry Christmas!

Christmas Eve  started with like a normal day. Breakfast and then a quick run to the store. We had lunch and then laid down for naps. Unfortunately, by nap time, they had figured out that the next day was Christmas Eve and they were too excited to sleep! Eventually, Nan showed up and Scott got off work early. There was no longer any hope for naps. I let them get up to play for the rest of the afternoon. After a Christmas Eve dinner, we played a rousing game of Christmas Bingo with the girls then watched "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" Shortly after that it was time for the girls to get ready for bed.

The girls each picked out a roll of wrapping paper to leave out for Santa. I was hoping for something a little more Christmas, but this is what they like! They set their wrapping paper out by the fridge and arranged a wonderful plate of goodies for Santa.

Nothing better than cookies, fudge, and hot chocolate with giant peppermint marshmallows! This morning we woke to find it all gone! We also found two little elves who stayed behind to wrap/guard the presents...

Poppie and Webley have been joining us for Christmas Day since 2011 when they were assigned to our family. They only come for the one day and the girls love them! We have made sure to get a picture with all of them every year.

As for the gifts, Rachel was so excited about what she asked Santa for that she was shaking when she was trying to open her present! After opening it, she exclaimed, "This is just what I've always wanted!" She and Alexa have been playing the the berry teaset and the Frozen "talkie-lalkies" (walkie-talkies) all day long!

This was such a great Christmas with the girls since they both understand what gifts are and know how to open them by themselves. Alexa, much like on Halloween, helped herself and we found her finishing ahead of Rachel! As for Scott, he had a very Seahawk Christmas and was just thrilled!

He got a blanket celebrating their Super Bowl win this year, a beanie, magnets (to hang pics at work), and a "sportula," which Rachel informed him is for flipping pancakes! In return, I asked for 2 things. I was totally surprised because I didn't think he took me seriously on either request.

I got these super cute new heels and "lemonader!" When I squealed about my laminator, Rachel was quick to say she doesn't want a "lemonader because [she] doesn't like lemonade." After presents, it was breakfast, then time to clean up and play. The girls played with their new colors of play dough, the talkie-lalkies, card, and many other things! Feliz Navidad was lunch, then naps. Meanwhile, outside we had woken up to a true White Christmas!

The only snow we've had this year was a heavy dusting the middle of November. Since Christmas hit the 10-day forecast, they have been forecasting snow and it has not changed. We woke up to a beautiful winter scenery this morning! The girls were dying to go play in it! Everyone needs Christmas dinner and I happened to remember someone who might not have gotten one yet...

We love to feed the ducks! The girls enjoyed being outside but quickly learned how cold it is here if it's snowing. They warmed up enough on the way home that they were ready to make snow angels when we got out of the car. They seem to have enjoyed their first White Christmas!

Eventually, we had a low key dinner and the girls begged for baths...to enjoy their bath drops. We put red and blue in and the girls swam in a purple bath until the water turned cold. I had to turn on the hot water just to rinse the soap off them without shivering! We had so much fun together today and have enjoyed teaching the girls the true meaning of Christmas as well. We hope you had as wonderful a season as we have! Merry Christmas!

Silence=trouble

Probably since the dawn of time, most parents have known that if a child is quiet, it typically means trouble. Rachel is old enough that I don't worry about her too much. She will often play quietly with her princesses or ducks. Alexa, however, is the textbook definition for "silence=trouble!" Luckily for me, today it wasn't too bad. I found her sitting in our dark bedroom, on the far side of the bed quietly delving into a bag of Hershey kisses that her nursery teachers gave her today as a Christmas gift.

Surprise destination...

Rachel typically asks, while we are eating breakfast in our jammies, "Mom, where are we going today?" I decided not to tell the girls where we were going until we were almost there. This decision made eating breakfast go much faster! Once we were ready, we loaded up and headed to our "surprise destination!" The girls were not so thrilled they were just getting hair cuts for their surprise, but when someone handed them candy canes, it made everything so much better!

Christmas time is here

Scott and I both had the chance to go to temple square without each other this year. Scott went with his sisters right after Thanksgiving, while the girls and I stayed home because someone was sick. That same week, I went with our ward for mutual. This week was when we finally made it together as a family! It was so much fun because we were also able to see one of my "little" cousins who was entering the MTC the next day!

Bradley and Mel met us there, too, and Steve, Lisa, and Sam were able to meet Wilson, who was of course smiley!!

Rachel found what she called "the second star!" She was so excited that she was standing there laughing!

Both girls enjoyed seeing all of the lights and would've liked to stay longer. Much to their dismay, we had to leave because it was already an hour past their bedtime.

Pajama Party

Scott came home today and Rachel told him we had a pajama party! Yes...we stayed in jammies all day. We had nothing to do, so why not! We started with play dough this morning immediately following breakfast. The girls were practicing their cookie making skills. From there, I thought we needed a treat after lunch. I let the girls pick a flavor and they made chocolate pudding by themselves.

Even though the pudding was basically set by the time they finished stirring because it took them so long, I still told them it had to go in the fridge to set. We read some books before lunch, then the girls had a dance party while I made each of them their favorite sandwich. They were delighted to get to eat lunch with only the Christmas tree lights on and ate quickly so they could dive into their pudding. Then it was off for naps! When they woke up, I surprised them with some Rapunzel "project sheets" for tracing and cutting. Scott walked in while we were doing our project sheets and that's when he was informed of our all day party. What a fun day for us! Happy Friday!!
