Since we did hardly anything for Cole's first birthday, we had to go ALL OUT for his 2nd one! I made his ball cake... since he's seriously so obsessed with balls! We had a huge BBQ with a volleyball/badmitton net up and of course the usual Indiana favorite, cornhole!
Scott at the BBQ with all the fellas
Cole trying his shot at some of the games...
I also made his basketball pinata. It was a big "HIT" with the kids!!

Cole had no idea what was going on with all the attention when we sang to him. He didn't even know to blow out the candles, so Ella was happy to do the honors.

He absolutely LOVED the cake. We put the big basketball cake on his tray and he basically put his head down and ate a huge bite out of it like a dog. Silly kid!

Cole's Surgery
Cole has been having an ear infection every other month for the past 18 months or so... finally, I made his doctor look at the history AGAIN, and she finally said, "let me refer you to an ENT." I was glad to get this taken care of once and for all, but then apprehensive also because I knew that it meant surgery for my little baby. Of course, the first meeting with the ENT went with a hearing test where it showed he had hearing loss. This would be fixed after tubes were in they told me. Interesting, probably why he took so long to talk! Then we met with the ENT specialist who, after a few minutes looked in his ears and noticed they were infected and had plentiful fluid behind both ears. Cole had just ended his antibiotics for a double ear infection two days prior... so the antibiotics weren't working anymore, and I was fine with the decision for getting tubes. 5 days later we were at the hospital at 6am... and my kids were unusually hyper.

When we first got there, we had to undress him in the little kid gowns, which were kinda cute with his diaper bum sticking out the back. They gave him some tylenol with codine in it, and then they took him away. We waited for about 10 minutes and then they brought us back to speak with the ENT specialist who did the surgery. It all went well, and he took out all the fluid. Good report. But then all during this after-surgery consultation, I was hearing my baby screaming down the hall. I couldn't really focus on anything he was saying because I wanted to get my baby back in my arms. So, the doctor finishes and lets us return to Cole's surgery room where the nurse is holding him. He is deliriously screaming and continues for awhile. This was probably the hardest part of it all for me and him. Seeing him so confused and mad with bloody ears. We had to wait 30 minutes for observation and he was screaming for half of that! But glad it's over and glad he can start hearing again and not be in constant pain!Butterfly Experience
Ella found this green caterpillar one day when she was hanging outside with her daddy, and so they had an idea to keep the catepillar and watch it turn into a catepillar. The very next day after we put it in a jar, it turned into a cocoon, and then about 2 weeks later we had a beautiful butterfly!
Ella would ask me everyday if it turned into a butterfly yet. I used this as one of our "science experiments" with Joyschool, even though the kids didn't get to see the butterfly. Watch the video of Ella releasing it! She was sad and disappointed to see it fly away, she wanted to hold it on her finger.
