Thoughts!

I haven't blogged in a while, so I thought it was time. I have no idea what to even say.
There are lots of thought going on in my head.. mostly. . man I must take these two months in and live in the moment so not one moment passes by before I leave on my 18 month adventure. I am not doing so good with it.
Things I want to work on:

-Play with my nieces and nephews
- Hug my parents and my brothers and sisters
- Say "I love you" more
- Spend time with friends, especially Rafiki!
- Finish the New Testament- Gotta know some bible stories ;-)

My mind is everywhere and my left eye wont stop twitching. . . I am stressing!

I Have Been Called!

I know as all of you know. . or should know, I opened that white envelope, and read where the Lord wants me to serve for 18 months!

FLORIDA ORLANDO MISSION! I report to the Missionary Training Center on February 16, 2011. I can not be more thrilled/excited than what I am! Words not express how I feel! Which means that I have accepted this call! I even mailed my acceptance letter this morning! I will post my video once I get it from my cousin, (thanks for catching the moment it Becca!)

The following day I woke up early and called Kevin's mission President to tell him the news of my call and have him pass it on to Kevin. It was fun to speak with him. Kevin got the news minutes later, on which. . upon readying Kevin's email this morning he is really happy for me! We will be serving at the same time. Given- I will get home 4 months after he does. (And that will be a magical moment in itself!)

I do not have a fun details of my mission yet, But I feel so lucky to be in a mission that has a Temple. I hope that I will be able to go to it often! I already have this love that has grown for the poeple in Florida, and I cannot wait to serve them! This Church is True! For if it wasn't I would not be leaving my Job, friends and especially my family for 18 months!

The Time has COME!

I am happy to report that I have NINE hours of free time. . . while getting paid! So with my NINE hours that I have I thouhght "Why not update the old blog with my thoughts and feelings of the past and future 24 hours.

First off I am thankful for lasts nights "blizzard" I got to go home at 5:00PM! Two hours early! Might I add, It was nothing Utah was not already used to seeing! In my opinion this "blizzard" was a little more than an over reaction. It lasted 15 minutes! I do wish that last night happened today so I could leave at 5:00 today. . but 7:00PM it is! I will get over it. . in NINE hours haha!

I re-read the blog post that I posted back in Feb, when Kevin's mission call came. I said "I wonder what is going on in Kevin's head . . . " Well Today that has been answered for me, as I sit and wait for my own call to come, and when I get to hold the white envelope in my hands and I get to break the seal and read where I will be laboring for 18 months (Kevin will have 15-16 months remaining of his mission) . I think he wasn't thinking anything. . as I am thinking nothing. . I dont know what to expect, and wont until mine and everyone's questions are answered - "Where am I going?" and "When will I leave?" I am pretty sure it is English speaking.

EIGHT hours to go. . then you will ALL know where I am going to serve. In the mean time. . . lets watch Kevin open his call again!

Never Thought!

Once upon a time, I was baptised a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Later day Saints. At the age of eight I knew that becoming a member was right thing to do. I am now 23 1/2 years young I think back to that special day and my heart is filled with gratitude for my decision 15 years ago.
A year after I was baptised, I recieved a casset tape from my grandparents for my 9th birthday "After Glow- Biggest Hits". Church music. I loved this casset tape! I listened to it ALL THE TIME!! Once in Primary there was a little talent show kind of thing and I sang- along with the tape- my favorite song from the casset. It was called "The Decision" I can still recall and sing all the words today. .lol. This song was all about a young person having a hard time to make the decision to serve a mission or to stay home.

Spoken-"There are many waiting, waiting to see the light they once beheld. Messangers are needed to carry that light and blessings are waiting for those who do. Your decision to serve or not to serve will have a direct impact on the eternal welfar of others and nothing in the world is worth lossing eternal blessings."

Sung- "I hear the voices that come from within, they say go, stay home too. I've decided to search from within, I must think it through. Do I stay home or do I go. Or do I tell all the world that He loves them so . . . "
The end of the song concludes that the person has come to their decision and they will serve the Lord and not stay home to tell the world that He loves them. At the age of nine you'de think that one would not understand what the song was talking about, but I knew! I even told myself "Shannon, you are going on a mission!" I was so excited about this that I even made constuction paper signs that said "I'M GOING ON A MISSION" and I taped them all over my walls! I knew this and I was determinded. This song moved me.

Well I then grew up. Things changed. I lost that "mission excitment" I was learning and growing. Growing my own testimony of the truths of this gospel. I then become a freshman in high shcool. Sweet little 14 year young girl. My favorite class was Seminary. . my gospel knowledge was being fed. I knew what I was learning in church and in seminary was all true..that the church IS ALL TRUE. I was on fire with my gospel knowledge and testimony that I HAD TO SHARE it with everyone, (yes in high school.I even carried my Book of Mormon around with me, I talked to anyone and everyone.)

My "missionary excitment" was BACK!!!

Once again I was on fire. I knew then as a freshman that I wanted to go on a mission and tell everyone that this church is true and they will be happier by coming unto Christ and partaking in the greatness!

Well then I grew up. Things changed. My desires changed. My plans changed. I went to college . .graduated then worked worked worked. The idea of going on a mission ALWAYS came back into my mind. Instead of going on a mission when I turned 21, I worked at Oakcrest Girls Camp (my mini mission) Best experience ever! My testimoney grew even stronger! After the summer was over I did my own thing, My own plan. The mission idea came back into my head.. (22yr). . so I worked at Oakcrest again (my mini mission) I grew even MORE! (That is one thing I love about this church, you can constantly grow!) After the summer I think continued to do my own things. My own plans.

Being 23 1/2 years young, loving my ward, being a ward missionary, fulling my calling, working hard, playing with friends, (not so much dating and not my fault) and watching Kevin go on a mission, along with some of my close girlfriend. Reading their emails of their time out on the Lords errand, my desire to go on a mission came back!

I prayed long and hard, I sat in the temple for a very long time. I was determined to get a confirmation from my Heavenly Father that going on a mission right now, this time in my life was the right time. That this is what HE would have ME DO.

My "missionary excitment" is BACK!!!!!!!!

My 9 year old self knew me better than I did. I have listened to her. I have let go of my plans and have gotten a tight hold on Heavenly Fathers plans!

The Primary song "I hope They Call me on a Mission" wont leave my head! I "have grown a foot or two" I know that I am "ready. To preach and teach and work as missionaries do"

I am excited to FINALLY tell everyone that I, Shannon Durr, is going on a MISSION!!!

I have submitted ALL the paper work. Now the fun part. . waiting for that special white envelope!
Will you all wait with me!!?

Make Pizells for my co-workers

Yes! Another 23 marked off!!!! I was just waiting for the perfect time that I could make 2 batchs of these delicious fat cookies. The time came. It was about time too! My work always have potlucks, but they always have them on Friday's. Stupendous day right.. yes, the catch, I NEVER get to go to the potlucks or participate due to the fact that I dont work Fridays (which I love!) and there is no way that I will come into work on my day off just to eat the food. So I Dont!

The potluck for the month of October was changed to a Wednesday! Happy I finally got to participate! It was fun making the pizells, I moved the cooking station into the living room so I could stay entertained for the two hours that is took me to make them all. (I can only make them two at a time) I did take pictures, I just have to upload them onto the computer!

They were a big hit at the potluck, I even got to take home the extra!
I love sharing my "talent" with people at work!

Birth

This is dedicated to my wonderful little sister!

I think giving birth is a beautiful thing! Kimm made giving birth look so easy. I am so proud of her for sticking through the pain! I have never seen anyone give birth before. Kimm let me be there for when Lini was born. Tears of joy streamed down my cheeks. Kimm did a wonderful job and was so strong during the labor of her beautiful daughter. After she was born we all got to hold her a love her. Then at 1:00PM the doctor admitted Lini into the NICU cus she was having a hard time getting enough oxygen. Her little lungs needed help. She has been in the NICU ever since. Daddy and grandpa gave her a blessing not too long after. She will be okay we hopeshe heals at a fast rate so she can go home with mommy and daddy soon! She is a beautful baby and o so strong like her mommy!!

I give props to all the women who have brought a child in the world.

CANCUN, MEXICO

Yup. . best believe your eyes. . another thing that is marked off my 23 list!

-Travel to a Different State/Country

I had the best time going out of the country again with my dear cousin! How I have enjoyed the travel time we get to spend with each other! Never a dull moment when we travel together! When we landed in Mexico we chilled there and waited for Domino, a dear friend of ours. It an experience trying to figure out a ride to get to our hotel, which was about a 20 min distant from the airport. When we finally got to the hotel it was real that we were Mexico. . I was in MEXICO!! and we kept saying that to each other. hahaha

I loved the humidity! I, for sure wasn't used to it but the weather was so nice and beautiful! Tropical and sunny! I loved every minute and second of this trip and would go back! It was relaxing, no stress. . well only when people spoke spanish to me and I had no idea what they were saying! haha "bahhh- what are you saying. . *look of fright* Domino please translate!"

Conference Weekend!

Okay So . . as we know BYU did not win against Utah State. .the worst part: being there in person to witness it. . . lol I do have to say that the company is what made the trip down to Logan the BEST!!! We all had SO MUCH FUN!!! I love trips like these!

The Three girls that were at the game with 4 boys! We got good general seats! O what fun it was. . I even made friends with Player #88- Austin Holtz. .Love him! lol

For those of us that went to the game meet up with the other half at Jeannett's parents house in Paradise! Where we spent the time playing games, eating cake and ice cream for Nic's birthday and Laughing . . a handful of us even slept outside under the stars!! SO NICE! Total falling stars I saw: 5! One wish is bound to come true!
The next morning we watched Conference after the AM Session we headed home, first stopping to get Aggie ice cream!

It was so much fun to spend time with people my age and take this one in a life time trip! hahaha I can't wait for the next life time to take another one lol *wink*

Last Day

I dont even know what to think. . . why has this month gone by so fast! That is what I would like to know so I can know what to think. My goodness! I even have posts in draft status or my September happenins. I wanted to add pictures to them so eventually I get those up so you can enjoy my month of September.

How should I start the next month. Oyi October, you are going to be good to me! I kicking this month off with a BYU game! Tomorrows game. BYU vs. Utah State. A bunch of us (9 peeps to the game)are going down to Logan to partake in the hoopla of the game. We all hope BYU will take the win. The own it to themselves. lol I am looking forward to the Aggie Ice cream! O deliciousness, last time I had that deliciousness was when I was going to Dixie- a year ago! Crazy! Then we will all be staying at someones parents house, were us 9 will be meeting 6 more. A full house! Can you see the madness!! Having a huge sleepover, then the best part in my eyes, waking up, breakfast then . . . .CONFERENCE!!!! I love April and October for this purpose. The opportunity to sit and listen to the Disciples of Jesus Christ, including the Prophet who leads and guides this church! O words of wisdom I will be hearing this weekend! Who can beat kicking the month off with that!!? Nobody and nothing!

After the conference weekend. .yes the fun doesn't end. . I am going on a much needed and deserved vacation! CANCUN, MEXICO will be graced with my presence! Along with Becca and Domino! One week of no work!

A Day of Go-Go-Go FUN

I was looking forward to this day for a good week and a half! I was so happy when the day FINALLY came!

Saturday, SEPTEMBER 11, 2010 (i wish i actually blogged on this day)

A great day starts out with work, (in my life) After getting off of work the REAL fun started. . . Naping for 30 minutes in the sun, carpooling to Gateway for the Brazil Festival! There were so many people there! Santa Baca!(holy cow) I tried some Brazilian food, thanks to the help of Celita! Then we danced. . or more liked watched! Haha It was so much fun. During the festivites I wondered off with a mission. . . New shoes for Shannon
Purple Vans had my name all over them! Whammy. . . automatic home for these new puppies! They are my favorite pair of shoes!
I wondered back to the group. . . all standing in the hot sun. It was way too hot espeically with all those people around, that I had to go sit in the shade, everyone decided to join me. I, with a few others, started to feel ill ~dehydration~ knowing we had to leave to rest and get water before our next adventure!

The Utah State fair was here! This was the thrid time in my WHOLE 23 1/2 years that I have been to the fair. I do love going to the fair, especailly with all my friends from my ward! It was so much to sit and watch the Rodeo and walk around looking at all the attractions and little shops and yes of course getting fair food! Eating Cotton candy till you are sick is the BEST! hehe.

All in all, it was so much fun to spend a day outside and with the greatest people!

My New Friend. . NICK

The joys of going shopping. The joys of going shopping with your sister, o the joys of going shopping at the D.I. You seriously never know what you are going to find there! Kimm and I went shopping to the DI one Friday afternoon. I was on a mission to score a new temple bag.One DI was a fail, so we moved on to the next DI. . .Mission Accomplished!! I scored a nice red bag that fits everything nice and neat! I love it. But the "down fall" haha not really a down fall, but after Kimm sighted this bag we continued down the asile. To my surprise further down there were LOTS of bowling balls, (this DI had a lot of cool stuff) Then I saw it! I picked it up. . Perfect weight, I checked the finger holes. . wow, it was like we were meant to be. . hahaha okay not really but I HAD TO GET IT!!!! This awesome green sparkley bowling ball was coming home with me. It even came with a ghetto old school- out of date- bag. Three dollars later I was walking out of the store with my very own bowling ball!! I was so excited for the next time I went bowling. It was wicked sweet.
Now My friend Nick. Sometimes I like to give my things names. Welp, This bowling ball was no expection, I HAD TO NAME IT!!! So Nick is what his name is, yes a boy. lol "Why Nick?" you ask. So random and out of the blue. Well My ball once belonged to a little kid named "Nick" I only know this cus the name is ingraved into the ball!
With Nick on my side my bowling game has been prety good! We are Pals! lol

Too Much time

I am needing to release some of my thoughts that are floating around in this head of mine.
I seriously wish I could win the Lottery. I don’t buy lottery tickets though, so the next best thing: Radio money; ya know-when radio stations hands out free money. Just $1,000 I need. That isn’t asking too much. I want to pay off my debts ASAP. Which brings me to my next thought.

I feel my job is hanging on a thread. I haven’t done anything to get me fired. But with ALL the drama that has gone down, for reals!!! My position is not a two person job, yet there are two of us here doing it. I was here first so I should be the one to keep the job. I just keep praying that I will be able to stay here long enough to pay off what I have and to even stay after I have it all paid off. I need this job!! It pays me too well not to need it. But maybe I should start looking for a back up *cringe at the thought*

And finally, the reason I want to pay my debts off so fast. I am not going to go into too much detail but, A mission is still lurking on my mind. I have a friend who is on a mission. Every time I read her emails it makes me want to be out there serving! It is killing me right now that I am unable to just. . GO. . because of the debt.

“HURRY” is the ONLY word in my mind and IT WONT GO AWAY! For what reason? I wish I REALLY knew.

Really . . ? September Already!

WHERE HAVE I BEEN?

A month. . . A WHOLE MONTH. . I feel so BEHIND on my life! This blog is like the whole journal issue that I have. When you get a new journal, you are good at writing in it. . then slowly you fall beind. Same with this!! lol O man!! I am even behind on reading/keeping up on everyone else's life.

Here is my excuse: No Internet at Home!

Yup and I am sticking with it!Given right now I am updating from work, just because it is super slow, and I need something to do! It makes me look like I am busy too. hehe.

So from my last blog post to now, I can't tell you what I have been up to in lots of detail, cus really, there isn't been much. The month of August was filled with work, wedding receptions, my father working on my bedroom,getting the new carpet in my bedroom and all the trouble that came with it, Moving into my new room (pictures soon to come),Selling my Lion King tickets to buy two NEW tires for my car, and Yes, the most exciting. . buying a trip to Cancun, Mexico!! YAHOO!

Now that September is here I am ready to start this up again, have it be reqular. Cus the rest of the year is going to be FANTSTIC!!

UpHill Pain

~JULY 5, 2010~
You remember in my last post, the Monring we saw Elder Durr.and How I said I only got to sleep for an hour until I had to get up again. . Yup. . here is why!

My first time EVER. . Mountain Biking!!! What fun this was!!! and YES. . UPHILL KILLED ME!!!

I was invited by my friends from my ward to go! Carl, William, his friend Shareese and Smitty. Carl provided our wicked sweet bikes! THANKS CARL! We went up to the Avenus where we started and ended up coming out at City Creek.

Such a good time with these guys. Shareese and I being the only girls became really good friends really fast. We even stopped on the way to lunch and baught $.50 lemonade from two adorable boys. And it was delicious Lemonade too!

My Monday was a GREAT day!! After biking and lunch I went home, got in my bathing suite and went swimming with Isaac and Arianna in the backyard, I even got to take a 2 hour nap!! The best nap I ever got too!!

I hope everyone else had a good 4th of July weekend. I get to say that This was one GREAT AWESOME weekend to REMEMBER FOREVER!!

P.S. It was so hard to go back to work after a 4 day weekend!!

Special Apperence

Monday morning came really fast! As Sunday July 4 came to an End, I was excited to go to sleep. I knew that 3:00AM would come fast, but I wasn't expecting it to come as fast as it did. I Was woken up by Kimm coming in my room. I haven't been woken up by her in such a long time.. Anyways, I got up and got dressed knowing that what was about to come would be a very HAPPY moment!!

Mom, Dad, Kyle and I got into one car and Bryce, Kimm and Tau got in another. We then made the short drive to the SLC Airport! We sat and waiting excitedly at the airport for the one big bus from the MTC to drop off the missionaries that were flying out that morning. . 30 min of waiting the bus finally arrived. . and off the bus walked ELDER DURR!

We were standing there, with the camera crew filiming it all, we didn't know what to do. Go hug him . . .yes. . but everyone was frozen, Kevin didn't know if he needed to get his bags off the bus or come over to us.I didn't wait, I stared walking toward him. . . Kevin took off his backpack and we embrassed! O how sweet!!! The hugs were being past out as one by one we each got our turn! We were with Kevin!! We talked and laughed and spent a HAPPY 45 min to an hour with him! HE WAS and IS so happy!!!

We then said our "See ya Laters" Gave our last hugs for 22 months and watched him walk through security and up the escelators, where he would then walk to his gate and wait for boarding. We all went out to breakfast, delicious, then went home and went bacck to bed. I got to sleep for an hour. . then I got up for another adventure.

All in All, it was the BEST MONDAY MORNING EVER!!! Kevin did call me from the Dallas Texas Airport. He made it safely to NEW YORK at 1:30PM our time.. 3:30PM NY time! I can't wait to hear from him and see how his first area and companion are!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FROOT

~July 3, 2010~

Ashley had a BIRTHDAY! Saturday was a special day! I got to spend the whole day with Ashley (Froot) and boy did we have fun plans planned!!!

Tierney and I headed to Ashley's house Saturday morning. . ready and all dressed in out swimming suites. . then together made our way to Provo. Making our way to the "High Country Adventure" spot where we paid for life jackets and our tubs. Yes. . . We totally floated down the PROVO RIVER!!

It was SOOO CLOD. . yet so much fun!!! Seriously. . such an adventure!! Ashley almost nearing died. We all minus one, got flipped by the current, that is where the big adventure was at. Ashley flipped first, she floated down the rest of the river (until the pit stop) without a tube! IN FREEZING WATER!! Good thing right at the pit stop there was a guy there that saved her life! The other 3 of us that also flipped were able to get our tubes and save ourselves but it was still super freezing, We were all so cold for the longest time! A warm shower thaughed me out and that was when I realized how bad I was hurt. We all realized our bad we were hurt, Stractes everywhere, I busted my toe! See High adventure. . yet completely SAFE!

We then got back to Riverton got all cleaned up, Met up with Courtney and went to Dinner. . Chills. So delicious especially being in the sun and water all day!

Then we ended the night with FIREWORKS!

It was a really long day but yet SO MUCH FUN!!!! I hope that Ashley had a great Birthday!! Love You Froot!!

BEE . . .BUZZZZ. . . HOME RUN!

The First Utah Bee's game of the summer . . . SO MUCH FUN!!! After a long day at work I got to go with Tierney to the Bee's game! I was looking forward to this since I didn't have anything else to do!

Of course the Bee's lost, which was expected, but they did get a home run!! I treated myself to a nice DELICIOUS cinnimon chirro (sp?)

Tina and her boy toy Jake ended up meeting us there. Tierney and I drove and park at my work then road the tax over to the ball park.

I had my snack with me. . a huge movie pickle. . on which I ate when we first arrived at the ball park and sat in our seats.

O what a fun game, and fun time!

After the game we all jumped in jakes ride and went for ice cream! I got purple ice cream. . cotton candy.. ooo so yummo!

Good night, I had a lot of fun!

Next up. . the weekend!!

MTC no no! What?

Did you know that when you go to the MTC there are signs that are posted by the sidewalks that say "no chalking/writing on the sidewalk"??? No? hahaha We did either!

What an adventure we took on Monday night. The greatest FHE that we have had thus far, being young adults! Yes my parents even participated!
Bryce, mom, dad, me along with Kimm and Tau and of course can't leave out the camera crew, took a little trip down to Provo, Home BYU and Yes. . the M.T.C., Being filmed the whole way, to send Kevin. . Elder Durr, happy, encouraging messages. . on the side walk he would be taking the next day during P.E. time. . with sidewalk chalk!

The best idea ever! We were good with time, having enough sun light to write the fun messages. We even had enough time to finish our messages and get the heck out of there in time. . . but we dilly dallied and got BUSTED!!! The MTC security came after us. . chased us down and took away our temple recommends!!! Blasted security! hahahahaha JUST KIDDING. . . but they did come over to us and talk to us. Telling us that what we did was not allowed, we didn't see the sign. The whole time we were being talked to. . the camera were rolling. They told us that "our missionary would get in trouble by someone else. . Bryce asked "Will he even see this?" they answered "Yes, cus he will be the one to come out and wash it off"
No way did we believe that they would make the Elders come out and clean it up after hours. . We got in our cars. . after I took pictures. . and drove away. . waited a little bit and drove past.. the security was gone and there was no one cleaning it off.
We headed home feeling so horrible that our fun time ended with guilty feelings of getting Kevin in trouble when he didn't even know we were doing it! OOPS,
We got the update today. . cus the camera crew went back there to film Kevin on Tuesday and they asked kevin what ened up happening. . 5 MIN AFTER WE LEFT. . sure enough they made KEVIN with some other elders go out and wash it off.. . 9:30PM 5 min shy of seeing him cleaning off our messages! BLAST!! WHY!!? LOL we would have totally honked at him. O well we weren't supposed to see him. . . so I guess it was a good thing. He said that he didn't get in a lot of trouble, but they all LOVED it cus they got to go outside AFTER crewfew! hahaha so they all enjoyed it and were grateful for what we did. lol so funny! Update on Elder Durr. . after we did our fast a week later we got a letter from him. He is so much more happy! and his health returned, and he is overwhelmed with happiness and excitment! I just have to say how fast the last 2 months FLEW BY! Elder Durr will be leaving the MTC on MONDAY!!! Heading to NEW YORK!! Can you believe it!!!
