Funny Things

I need to write down more of the funny things the kids say. They have me laughing all the time, but then a little later I forget what they said! Here are a couple I remember from the week.

I am not very educated on things little boys need to know such as the specific names of construction equipment. To me things are all called diggers or big trucks. We have now added backhoe to our vocabulary thanks to Silas. : ) Silas points out every truck when we are driving. Every. Truck. Pick up trucks, semi's, concrete trucks... you get the idea. He also points out every piece of construction equipment and he calls them all backhoe's because that is the only term his mother knows. Well, we were at a stop light the other day and there was a machine next to us (I still am not sure what it was) and Silas was yelling "backhoe! backhoe!!" One of the girls, I think Madelyn said, "Silas that is not a backhoe, it is a fronthoe!" So now we have two construction terms, a backhoe or a fronthoe. We need some tutoring from my three nephews!

Caroline is such a sweet, sweet girl. She is always telling me how much she loves me. She tells me this at least once a day. "Mommy, I love you so much. I love you better than all the mommies in the whole world. Even the mommies from a long time ago and the mommies from now. You are the best mommy ever." She just melts my heart! I've enjoyed being able to spend some time with just her since school has started. Two mornings a week Silas and Madelyn are both at school and Caroline and I get to hang out. It's been good for both of us! I will miss her when she starts Kindergarten next year.

It's Finally Caroline's Turn!

Caroline started preschool yesterday and had a great day! She has several friends from last year in her class and already made a new friend too. She has great teachers, the same ones Madelyn had when she was 4. This year she gets to go three mornings a week and she is excited to go back tomorrow! Now, if we can just figure out how to get three kids to three different schools in the morning...

Gymnastics

Caroline started gymnastics a few weeks ago and is loving it! Doesn't she look cute in her leotard? The gym is very nice and has so many fun things to do. She loves the trampoline, the foam pit and swinging on a big rope into the foam pit.

Silas is 3!

Today is Silas' birthday! What a fun time we have had celebrating this year. Saturday we had a party for him at a local orchard. It has a large play area for kids with two huge slides that Silas loved. It was the perfect place to have a party. The kids loved playing on the slides and other toys, we had a Spiderman Cake and went on a hayride. It was the easiest party we have ever done!

Silas was a little overwhelmed, but had a great time as you can see in the pictures below. He understood it was his birthday party, but I think it confused him that everyone he knew was in the same place! The party Saturday warmed him up for the real deal today. He took cupcakes to share at preschool and was so excited! They sang to him and he got to blow out his three candles. All day he kept telling me "birfday - candles!" It was so cute. After school, I took he and Caroline out to McDonalds for lunch, his favorite place. He was super excited and kept hugging me while we were there. We were busy this afternoon with gymnastics and ballet so tonight we went out for dinner at a fun local place. When we got home he opened his presents from us - a hot wheels highway and two books. He new just what to do and ripped the paper off. He topped off the evening with one more cupcake, complete with candles and another round of Happy Birthday. He was overjoyed. : ) He had a really good day today.

I couldn't help but think of his "China mommy" today. I wondered how she felt today. I wondered what happened three years ago when she gave birth. I have many questions about what really happened that day and the next day following. I prayed that she would know that Silas is safe, loved, happy and adored. I prayed she would have peace that passes all understanding and know that her baby is healthy and thriving. I pray that someday we will meet in heaven and I can thank her for the precious gift we have because of her. I will never understand the reasons behind her choices, but we are so thankful we have our Silas. I always tell the girls the story of their birth on their birthdays. It was sad tonight that I did not have a birth story to tell Silas. I talked to him about his china mommy and how she loved him and wanted him in a family that could take care of him. I also talked to him about how thankful we are that God picked us to be his mommy and daddy. I do wish I knew more about his past to share with him.Mommy and Silas on the hayride
My first try at a Spiderman cake! I have the Wilton pan if anyone wants to borrow it.The small slide

Silas and his friend Ryan, who also has microtia. Aren't they adorable together?
